Greetings!

What we have for sale today is a 1957 Porsche 356A Carrera 547/1 engine which was removed from a BMW motorcycle owned by Vasek Polak.  I've owned the engine for about 9 years with a plan to put it into my 1957 Speedster, but I kind of like the low-powered Speedster for my around-town jaunts.  The carrera would make a great sound, though.  Just the engine, number P90846 is for sale.
The crank has been checked out and OKay-ed by Bill Doyle (Tom at Carquip told me this when I purchased this engine from him) and all parts are ready for assembly.  The crank has the ribbed-rods already installed, and the heads are penny-ed and ready for installation, too.  There are two sets of pistons with this engine.  The sand-cast Solex carbs have been rebuilt, along with the two distributors.  Both distributors have also been curved and come with their test papers.
The oil pump has a spare set of over-sized gears in case you want to add them, and the distributors are housed in a magnesium 60 degree V-drive assembly.  New gaskets and all shims, nuts, bolts, tubes and wires are included.
What this engine does need is the upper sheet metal tin, throttle linkage, the fan, conical cover front and back, and the nut to hold on the fan.
I have the lower Carrera heater boxes and a reproduction generator stand with generator locking nut.  I can also supply either a 6-volt or 12-volt generator.

Email or call if you have any questions. I can offer a bill of sale for the engine, if needed.  International interest is welcome, but I recommend a visit to view the engine.
Sold As-IS and Where-Is.

thanks,
bill

2015 Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid

Mon, 03 Nov 2014

Think of the electric motor in the facelifted 2015 Porsche Cayenne S E-Hybrid as the cream filling in an Oreo cookie. Under the hood of this plug-in hybrid crossover is a 333-horsepower, supercharged 3.0-liter V6 with a 95-hp synchronous electric motor sandwiched between it and an eight-speed Tiptronic automatic transmission. The clutched powertrain allows pure combustion, pure electric or a combination of both to drive all four wheels through Porsche's permanent all-wheel-drive system.
Differentiating itself from the Panamera S E-Hybrid sedan, which shares the same basic powertrain and stores energy in a 9.4-kWh battery, the Cayenne crossover is fit with a more robust 10.8-kWh lithium-ion battery that delivers an estimated pure-electric driving range of up to 22 miles at speeds of up to 78 miles per hour.
To be one of the very first US media members to sample Porsche's latest fuel-efficient crossover, the automaker flew us to Frankfurt, Germany, to test the five-passenger Cayenne S E-Hybrid on its home turf.

Porsche 911 R might be manual-only with a GT3 engine

Thu, Oct 15 2015

Two of Porsche's best cars only come with two pedals and a PDK transmission. That automatic is inarguably one of the very best on the planet, but it's still not the same. The debut of the latest Porsche 911 GT3 was met with much moaning and groaning when it was revealed it would be PDK-only. A rumor from our friends at Car and Driver could signal that three-pedal fans may finally get the Porsche they really want. C/D is claiming that Porsche might resurrect the 911 R badge for a limited-edition Carrera. Such a vehicle would feature not only a nearly 500-horsepower, naturally aspirated flat-six derived from the GT3's engine, but also a do-it-yourself manual transmission. We're betting it'd be the Carrera's well-regarded seven-speed manual, provided it could handle the output. As for how this car will look, that is perhaps the most exciting angle. According to C/D, Porsche insiders called the 911 R "a wolf in sheep's clothing," describing subdued sheetmetal that won't trumpet this car's high-performance nature. Yes, there's could be a sleeper 911. We'll keep our eyes open for anything that corroborates Car and Driver's rumor, but until then, take this news with a grain of salt. If the 911 R does see the light of day, it will likely be in March at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. 2017 Porsche Panamera leaked looking sporty and sleek

Thu, Jun 23 2016

The Internet isn't very good at keeping secrets. Someone got hold of some images of the 2017 Porsche Panamera ahead of its official debut next week and leaked them online. While that's bad news for Porsche, it's good news for the auto-loving masses, because the next Panamera is pretty darn... pretty. While the overall shape of the next-gen Panamera doesn't stray far from the car it replaces, the details make for a more cohesive overall package than before. It's clearly a Porsche, and obviously a Panamera (look, four doors and a hatchback!), but it's no longer bulbous or ungainly. Lighting front and rear is inspired by the latest 718 models, and the sleek bulging hood is apparently hiding a twin-turbo 4.0-liter V8 engine. We expect a range of six- and eight-cylinder engines for production, along with a plug-in hybrid. Inside, the only analog gauge we see is a tachometer, helpfully placed directly in front of the driver. A quartet of digital dials flank the throwback tach, but we can't see much past that. There does appear to be a good amount of space for the rear-seat passengers, along with what looks to be a touch-sensitive control surface at the rear of the center console. We expect similar capacitive buttons for the front occupants, along with a large LCD infotainment screen. Take a look at the images above for an early glimpse at the 2017 Porsche Panamera. And stay tuned for all the details on June 28. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings.
