I just bought this car for  a replacement to my 65 356 which I sold. I bought this car specifically because it HAD a hardtop. Well, the shipping company destroyed the hardtop or lost it and now there is no hardtop. I am moving 3 hours away for work and am losing my garage. A car with no top doesn't really work well without indoor storage. If you check you will see I am selling 2 other cars as well. So here is what I can tell you. This is one of the original 660 Intermecannica Speedsters built in the 70's. That's another reason I took a liking to this car. It has been verified by intermeccanica. It has the correct hinges. It was built in 1978 and has just over 33k miles. The engine is freshly rebuilt with  less than 300 miles and runs like a dream and is oil leak free. There are many authentic period pieces on this car. For example, the steering wheel alone is a 2-4k piece if you can find one. The shifter knob, the license plate shine down, etc are all vintage 356. The gauges are early 912 but still look right because they are Porsche gauges. The floor pans are solid and are heavy gauge steel. The car is /was built to be a gulf tribute (obviously), but also has an outlaw Patina look that adds to the authenticity. There is pitting in the chrome, a small crack on the windshield, the shipper put a tarp on the car after "losing" the top, so there is burn through (as pictured) on the front fender. There is a pretty good amount of stress cracking in the paint which is really invisible unless you try really hard to look for it.. So in general, you are buying a patina 356 replica. I personally think it looks much cooler than the dolled up cars that look like rolling show pieces. There is a full tonneau that covers the upholstery, and a soft top that isn't really functional at all. Finally there is a speedster hump that attaches behind the seats. In the pics it is just resting on top of the tonneau. It actually fits snug and looks good. The upholstery is in good shape but there is no carpet. A carpet kit and all other pieces for this car are easily gotten and not expensive.  Finally, I am including an extra set of wide 5  10 slot wheels because I know not everyone likes the orange Empis. I have to move by August 15th so I need to  sell this and have it gone by then. I am going NO RESERVE so hopefully I will not need to list it twice. Do not bid and then disappear. Call me with any questions 410 215 5977. Attention Canadians, this car registers as a 68 VW, so you can import it easily. It is a VW pan and not a tube frame. You won't find a Speedster for low money anymore, they are going up, so get this one now while it is still a deal, do some work and earn some profit.

EVs still burning aboard ship carrying luxury cars near Azores

Tue, Feb 22 2022

LISBON — Heavy tug boats on Tuesday sprayed water on a burning ship carrying thousands of Porsches and Bentleys adrift off the coast of Portugal's Azores islands, the ship's manager said in a statement. The Felicity Ace, carrying around 4,000 vehicles including Porsches, Audis and Bentleys, some with lithium-ion batteries, caught fire on Wednesday last week. The 22 crew members on board were evacuated the same day. Ship manager Mitsui O.S.K. Lines Ltd (MOL) said in a statement the vessel was still on fire but stable, and that no oil leak had been reported so far. It also said the ship was drifting further from the Azores islands in the Atlantic Ocean. Two large tug boats equipped with firefighting gear arrived from Gibraltar on Monday, and were working with another patrol boat to spray water at the Felicity Ace and cool it down, MOL said. The arrival of two other tug boats with more firefighting equipment is scheduled for Feb. 23 and Feb. 26. "Together with the all relevant parties, MOL is making every effort to contain the damage and resolve the situation as soon as possible," MOL said. Joao Mendes Cabecas, the captain of the nearest port on the Azorean island of Faial, said on Sunday the fire had lost its intensity, probably because there was little left to burn. Cabecas said as the fire subsides and the structure cools down, firefighting teams and technicians might be able to board the vessel to prepare to tow it either to Europe or the Bahamas. "When conditions are safe the salvage team will board the Felicity Ace for an initial assessment," MOL added. Cabecas told Reuters over the weekend the lithium-ion batteries in the electric vehicles were "keeping the fire alive." It was not clear whether the batteries had caused the fire. MOL did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment on the cause of the fire. Volkswagen, which owns the car brands, said on Monday it did not have any further information to share. Porsche announces four flavors of updated Cayenne [w/video]

Thu, Jul 24 2014

The new Macan may be getting all the attention lately, but Porsche hasn't forgotten about its larger crossover – the one that put it on the map in 2002 and on the road to profitability, with over half a million sold so far. So to keep the Cayenne at the top of its game, Porsche has announced several key upgrades for the 2015 model. For starters, Porsche has updated the Cayenne's appearance with new front- and rear-end styling. The front bumper, fenders and hood are entirely new, with air fins flanking the nose to direct air into the intercoolers (each model now being artificially aspirated), and new bi-xenon headlamps and daytime running LEDs on every model but the Turbo, which goes all-LED. Around back there's also new taillights, tailgate handle, lower rear fascia and exhaust pipes. Meanwhile the interior has been upgraded with a 918-derived sport steering wheel and reformed rear seats with available ventilation. The bigger news is under the engine bay, where Porsche is offering four choices. The base model is gone as the range starts with the Cayenne Diesel, followed by the Cayenne S, the new Cayenne S E-Hybrid and the top-of-the-line Cayenne Turbo. The Diesel model carries over the same 3.0-liter turbo diesel with 240 horsepower. The Cayenne S however packs a 3.6-liter twin-turbo V6 that's similar to the one found in the Macan Turbo and packs the same 406 lb-ft of torque but more power at 420 hp, 20 more than either its little brother or the model it replaces to reach 62 mph in 5.2 seconds. The new Cayenne S E-Hybrid makes Porsche the world's only car manufacturer to offer three plug-in hybrid models. Porsche has also ported over the powertrain from the Panamera S E-Hybrid to make what Porsche refers to as "the first plug-in hybrid in the premium SUV segment" and, along with the 918 Spyder, make it (almost unbelievably) "the world's only car manufacturer to offer three plug-in hybrid models" (unless, of course, you count the Opel/Vauxhall Ampera as separate from the Chevy Volt and Cadillac ELR). The system mates a 3.0-liter supercharged V6 with 333 hp to an electric motor with 95 hp to give it a combined output of 416 hp (more than the diesel and almost as much as the S) to propel it to 62 in 5.4 seconds, hit an all-electric top speed of 78 mph and an all-out top speed of 151 mph – offering a substantial improvement over the previous Cayenne S Hybrid.

Chris Harris hits the track in the Porsche 911 GT3 RS

Sat, May 23 2015

One of the wonderful things about Chris Harris on Cars is the enthusiasm that the host brings to the screen. Granted, it would be hard not to enjoy a day driving around in a supercar that you don't own. Still, Harris brings a sense that he knows how rare these opportunities are and relishes them. In his latest look at the two sides of the latest Porsche 911 GT3 RS, you can tell this guy is having a lot of fun. The GT3 RS is a 500-horsepower, track-focused weapon, but it's expected to drive to and away from the circuit after a day of laps. Therefore, Harris decides to evaluate the attributes of this Porsche in both environments. On the road, he sweeps an orange example over some beautifully, undulating German backroads but keeps things rather tidy. However, in the latter half of the video, he arrives at the Weissach test track for a go in a purple RS. There, he really lets the rear hang out.
