offerd for bidding is this nice 2002 pontiac trans am ram air ws6.  this car belonged to my 86 year old father who recently passed away. it has a very clean 'car fact's history, was a one family car, and has never been mis-used or stolen allthough i did once report it as missing to the local police dept. but they found it all the way in the back of the parking lot a few days later oops! he allways took it to the dealer for sevicing and allways insisted on the mobil 1 20/50 wt. for the oil changes.  this motor is very very tight as barely uses any oil at all.  the oil also barely gets dirty at all even after a very long time with the new set of ngk g power spark plugs.  the g power plugs, being that they use a platinum style electrode tip, but seem to conduct spark better without the platinum coating.  they may not last as long, but they make a lot more power and they help to keep the cumbustion deposits down which means less frequent oil changes.  if you rev the motor up high, it will race up very smoothly and without any hickuping as the revs come back down.  it is  a very tight motor. there is no piston slap problem with this car.  many of these cars actually left the factory with an audible piston slap that you could easily hear when the engine was cold.  the motor is in perfect running condition.  the only thing that i can think of that is worth mentioning is a slight rocker tapping sound that is only audible when the engine is very cold.  that is very common on these cars after about 80,000 miles.  it is usually caused by either a rocker arm or two starting to become loose and needing to be retightend, or else its due to the normal wear of the rocker arms.  it is only about a 400.00 dollar or so job to replace the rocker arms or to retighten them.  anyway the light tapping sound that you sometimes hear is only when the engine is cold and then goes away so im sure you will have plenty of time before you will need to pull the valve covers and have the rocker arms looked at.  the only other thing worth mentioning is maby a little bit of shock absorber sqeeking when the car is going over bumpy road conditions.  the shocks themselves are still performing like new so it never bothered me to much.  this car is absolutly stock with no modification of any kind except for the manditory slp exact fit body bracing top and bottom. the wheel alignment was done by myself and the toe is set exactly spot on as i am a very good mechanic and it is actually very important that the toe angle be set very precisely on these cars otherwise you will feel the front of the car "walking", that is to say tracking sideways when you are in a steady tight turn situation like when you are on a freeway on ramp for example.  this car loves freeway on ramps! HA!  the paint is in pretty good condition with no craking of the front bumper as it has just been re shot so the light scrapes that you see in my front view photo no longer exist, no noticible dings to either of the doors and only a few scuffs to the rear bumper becoming noticeable.  the car has just been fully detailed using the mcquire's 3 step cleaner, polish, and carnuba wax deep crystal system.  the interior has also been mcquired as well.  the tires measure about 60 pct. of new and are the top of the line goodyear eagle f1 z rated gs-d3. they really do look awesome on these cars (go figure)!  a number of services have just been performed this week. they include the detailing, carpets carefully steam cleaned, new oil chage with the mobil 1 with royal purple filter, new brakes front and rear with full synthetic brake fluid flush and refill, fresh 'extended life' prestone coolent  added, power steering fluid flush and refill, new fram air cleaner element, (what a difference!)   and fuel injectors cleaned with lucas fuel injector cleaner.  this car was only taken to the unical 76 station most of the time and only 91 octane fuel was used.  it has kept engine deposits down to a minimum.  the transmission fluid is still the original factory and appears to look like new and has no burnt odor at all so i left that alone as there is no slipping of the transmisson when you put the pedal to the carpet!  ha ha!  the rear differential is still stock as i am to lazy to do that right now and i guess that i never really liked the smell of that stuff. (just being honest).  the serpentine belt and all of the hoses appear to be in great condition so this car has been well maintained as my father could allways afford to have any problem fixed at the dealer if need be.  my father was old and he would sometimes tap the car into things which required the front bumper to have to be re shot so things like the front bumber presently look great and maby a few of the other panels had been re shot but the car looks great and all the young dudes ask to buy it.  these cars are of course the most fun that you can have with your pants on so i am only selling it because i of course need the money so the reserve price will be about three thousand below the blue book value which is about 11,500 in said condition.   i have tried my best to be honest about the mechanical condition of this car so you can rest assured you will at least be getting your monies worth and provided that you stick with the mobil 1 20/50 motor oil, the motor should last you at least a hundred thousand more!  im sure that you will enjoy this car as much as i have, and as allways, Happy Bidding!

David Hasselhoff's own KITT replica up for auction

Tue, 08 Apr 2014

Depending on when and where you grew up, the name David Hasselhoff likely conjures up images of Knight Rider, Baywatch, pop singer, or possibly a washed-up TV actor, but one thing that can never be taken away from The Hoff is his connection to one of the greatest automotive icons in pop culture. The Knight Industries Two Thousand, usually shortened to simply KITT, was the real star of Knight Rider for many fans. Based on a Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, the car combined snarky quips for comedy relief and stunts to provide much of the show's actions. Now, Julien's Auctions is selling Hasselhoff's own replica as part of a larger sale of the actor's personal memorabilia collection.
This recreation is based on a 1986 Firebird and comes with all of the tech on the inside that now seems hilariously outdated, like the yoke steering wheel and plethora of buttons. The interior also thoughtfully includes a voice box with over 4,000 sound clips from the show. With a 5.0-liter V8 and an automatic transmission, performance is likely adequate and period correct. According to the listing, this car was created by fans and given to the Hoff. Sadly, the replica doesn't convert to Super Pursuit Mode like KITT could in later seasons, and we most associate KITT with conventional front-hinged doors to go with the power t-tops and ejector seats.
Bidding currently sits $27,500 with eight bids, since starting at $15,000. Julien's predicts it will sell for between $30,000 and $50,000. If there is some nostalgia for KITT in your heart, there is still plenty of time to bid.

Hurst Edition Trans Am proves the Screaming Chicken will rise from the ashes

Wed, 31 Oct 2012

It seems the Pontiac Trans Am steadfastly refuses to die. Ever since Chevrolet was granted a retrofied Camaro to compete with the Ford Mustang, Pontiac lovers have lamented the loss of this 1970s icon. And, looking at the Hurst Edition from Trans Am Depot, shown here at the 2012 SEMA Show, may explain what all the fuss is about.
It's not going to appeal to everyone's muscle-car tastes, but there's certainly room for a brash-and-bold black-and-gold Special Edition in many a Trans Am lover's garage. After all, if you want the keys to a custom pony car, you'll certainly get noticed in this one. If this scheme isn't your bag,, you can alternatively order your Hurst Edition in white and gold or silver and black. Oh, and don't forget a color-coordinated Screaming Chicken on the hood.
No matter which way you choose to go, your inner Burt Reynolds will appreciate the Eibach suspension kit, forged wheels with Pirelli PZero tires, functional shaker hood, fender air extractors, rear spoiler and, of course, a Hurst shifter inside. The interior is emblazoned with all manner of special touches, including a Hurst dash plate and T/A stitching on the Katzkin two-tone leather seats.

GM doing fine at retaining Pontiac owners

Fri, 28 Oct 2011

This isn't the first time we've reported positive news about General Motors retaining former Pontiac owners. Get a few more stories like this latest report from Edmund's Auto Observer, and it will mark an ongoing positive trend for GM. Edmunds.com crunched the numbers to see how well the General is hanging on to customers after shutting out the lights at Pontiac, and it found that nearly 40 percent of Pontiac owners stayed with a vehicle from a General Motors brand.
The numbers are a little lower than an earlier R.L. Polk & Company study, but Edmunds says General Motors is keeping more former Pontiac buyers than it has since 2007. Most are turning to vehicles from Chevrolet, especially during January and February of 2011, when GM incentivized Pontiac owners to stay under the umbrella. Those moves seem to have worked, and 28.1 percent of Pontiac owners trading up made the jump into a Bowtie.
Buyers that have gone elsewhere have largely stayed loyal to Domestic automakers, with Ford picking up the most conquests from Pontiac, with 9.4 percent switching. Toyota and Honda picked up 7.4 percent of the pool of former Pontiac drivers. The numbers are defying any predictions that Pontiac buyers would completely exit the General Motors fold, and have climbed up closer to parity with the retention figures of other GM brands from a 2009 low of only 16 percent retention.
