1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am Original 400 4-speed 1 Of 2485 Built 304 Pictures on 2040-cars
London, Kentucky, United States
SUNRISE AUTOMOTIVE LLC IS OFFERING THIS AWESOME ORIGINAL 1979 PONTIAC TRANS AM! I HAVE SHOT 304 PICTURES OF THIS BEAST TO PROVE HOW NICE AND ORIGINAL THIS T/A REALLY IS. WE ACQUIRED THIS CAR A COUPLE OF YEARS WITH INTENTIONS OF RESTORING IT, BUT CUSTOMER CARS COME FIRST. THIS IS 1 of 2485 HARDTOPS BUILT HAVING THE DESIRABLE L78 PONTIAC 400 COMPLEMENTED BY BORG WARNER SUPER T-10 TRANSMISSION. THIS IS ALSO ONE YEAR ONLY COLOR (CODE 69 HERITAGE BROWN). THIS CAR WAS SPECIAL ORDERED (REFER TO BUILD SHEET) AND SOLD NEW AT SPARLIN PONTIAC GMC BUICK IN PURCELL OKLAHOMA. THIS T/A WAS BUILT AT THE VAN NUYS CALIFORNIA PLANT ON (03 E) WHICH WAS THE 5th WEEK OF MARCH OF 1979 AND IN TRANSIT ON MARCH 30th. (REFER TO BUILD SHEET AND COWL TAG). VAN NUYS CARS WERE PAINTED WITH WATERBORNE PAINT WHEREAS NORWOOD OHIO CAR WERE PAINTED WITH LACQUER. CALIFORNIA WAS VERY STRINGENT BACK THEN WITH POLLUTION. THERE IS A "W" STAMPED ON THE COWL TAG THAT DENOTES A WATERBORNE PAINTED CAR. THIS BROWN BEAST RETAINS 90% OF IT'S ORIGINAL PAINT WITH EXCEPTION OF THE REAR BUMPER. THE PAINT IS EXTREMELY THIN WITH DINGS AND BRUISES AS SEEN IN THE PICTURES. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY HONEST CAR WITHOUT ANY COVER UPS! WE SPECULATE THAT PROBABLY OUT OF THE 2485 Z CODED HARD TOPS, THAT LESS THEN 200 HERITAGE BROWN CARS WERE PRODUCED AND LIKELY TO BE LESS. THIS CAR DESERVES A FULL BLOWN RESTORATION. THIS IS A VERY COMPLETE AND CORRECT CAR. THE ONLY METAL WORK THIS CAR NEEDS IS RIGHT REAR LOWER QUARTER, FRONT DRIVERS FLOOR PATCH, DRIVERS TOE BOARD PATCH, PASSENGER MID HUMP, POSSIBLY LIGHT REPAIR BEHIND REAR FLARES. I REMOVED THE CARPET TO REVEAL ALL THE ISSUES. EVERYTHING ELSE IS EXCELLENT! THIS IS A NUMBERS MATCHING CAR. WE DID CHANGE THE DELUXE VINYL TO DELUXE CLOTH JUST BECAUSE THEY WERE IN BETTER CONDITION. NO HARM THERE. THE RADIO IS AFTERMARKET AND DOES NOT WORK. THE POWER WINDOWS, POWER TRUNK, LIGHTS AND GAUGES OPERATE AS THE SHOULD. I BELIEVE THE A/C WILL WORK WITH A BELT AND A SHOT OF FREON. I'M GOING TO GET THAT WORKING. THE TIRES ARE THE OLD GOODYEAR EAGLE GTs THAT HAVE SEEN BETTER DAYS. THE ENGINE, TRANSMISSION AND REAR END OPERATE AS THEY SHOULD WITH NO KNOWN ISSUES. THE CLUTCH IS HEAVY BUT SMOOTH AND GRIPS GOOD. THE ORIGINAL BOOKS AND OTHER DOCUMENTS ARE IN THE GLOVE BOX. THIS ALSO INCLUDES THE PAINT WARRANTY SHEET. *1 of 2485 L-78 400 4-SPEEDS BUILT *WS6 AND W72 PACKAGE *1 YEAR ONLY COLOR *CUSTOMER SPECIAL ORDERED *LOADED WITH OPTIONS *BUILD SHEET, BOOKS AND DOCUMENTS *ORIGINAL AND CORRECT *A RARE AND SOLID CAR!!! |

eBay Find of the Day: 1967 Pontiac GTO Monkeemobile
Sun, 29 Apr 2012Say what you will about The Monkees, but the guys in the band had great taste in automobiles. Take the Monkeemobile, for example. Built off a 1967 Pontiac GTO Convertible, the custom featured genuinely interesting bodywork and some wild engine bolt-ons. If you're a fan of 1960s pop and yearn to relive the genre's glory days, eBay Motors may have what you need. A recreation of the 1967 Monkeemobile has showed up for auction. This particular replica was built by Dakota County Customs using an four-speed GTO, just like the original.
Built for the band's 45th anniversary and the final Monkees tour last year, this Monkeemobile is faithful down to every last detail. Unfortunately, the trumpet exhaust poking out of the front fender wells and the massive gold-flake blower are for show only. Seems fitting.
If you like what you see, this machine is up for bid in Richfield, Minnesota with two days left on the auctions. So far, bidding as whipped up to $60,000 with the reserve not met. Head over to eBay Motors to have a look.
Sci-fi movie Jinn features car designer, Firebird-bodied Camaro
Tue, 08 Apr 2014If you're an automotive engineer being tormented by an immortal being made of fire, then wouldn't you think it best to have a custom coupe called the FireBreather for your getaway car? That's the FireBreather in the image above, adorned by the red wings that once fronted the Pontiac Firebird, running away from a black cloud of evil in a trailer for the movie Jinn.
The Jinn is eternal evil, always waiting for the chance to make things float across rooms before going on homicidal urban rampages. The FireBreather is a Gen-V Chevrolet Camaro - from the V6 to the ZL1 - that's been through Classic Design Concepts' extensive list of exterior and interior modifications, including entirely new front and rear fascias and side skirts, sway bars and springs, Pirelli P Zeroes and an available Edelbrock supercharger.
The movie - FireBreathing chase scenes and all - was shot in Monroe, Michigan. You can watch the trailer below, but since the FireBreather only get a couple of seconds on screen, you can find out more about it on Street Legal TV and its official site.
1939 Pontiac Ghost Car commands $308,000 at auction
Mon, 01 Aug 2011For the 1939 World's Fair, Pontiac built a Deluxe Six bodied in Plexiglass. Part of the Previews of Progress pavilion in which General Motors' Futurama showed off what was to come in the world of autos, the 'invisible' Pontiac is credited as the first transparent car in America. And there were no shortcuts taken with its body: the Plexiglass form was fabricated by the company that brought the material to market in 1933, Rohm & Haas.
The see-through sedan was sold at RM Auctions' St. John's auction in Michigan on July 30, fetching $308,000. Not bad appreciation for a domestic oddity that cost $25,000 to build when new. You can check out the high-res gallery of its innards, including copper and chrome metalwork and white moldings and wheels, and get the exhaustive details on it after the jump.
