1970 Pontiac Tempest Base 6.6l on 2040-cars
American Fork, Utah, United States
Beautifully restored 1970 Pontiac tempest. Upgraded to a 400 cubic inch V8 and 4 speed hurst transmission (same set up as a 1970 GTO), weld racing wheels, k&n air filter, edelbrock 4brl carb. Not a Utah original car and never driven in snow and there's no rust hiding under the paint! Less than 15k miles since complete rebuild. Ready for summer car shows or drag strip! Factory a/c, Dual exhaust with flowmaster mufflers, sounds awesome (not ghetto awesome, legit awesome!). Just replaced battery, starter, and fuel pump. Has always been garage kept and well maintained. Car was stored for the last 6 years, that's why the items listed as new were replaced. Car is in good working condition and is fun to drive. Also have a ram-air GTO hood that is not painted that can be included with purchase if buyer wants to upgrade the car further Disclosure on known items: - has minor oil leak from engine (few drops after driving then stops dripping) - factory a/c is not hooked up to engine belt (never hooked up since I've owned it) - dual exhaust terminates immediately after mufflers (makes for great sound but may not be legal in all states) - aftermarket tachometer not working (worked before it was stored, not sure why it isn't working now) - car does not have a horn - paint job is 8/10. One small bubble on hood about 3/4" hard to see unless the light hits it right. 3 small chips in paint around car under 1/8" each. - grill inserts were removed during painting, auto body guy broke clips so they were not re-installed but are included with purchase. - tires have about 40% life remaining |

GM doing fine at retaining Pontiac owners
Fri, 28 Oct 2011This isn't the first time we've reported positive news about General Motors retaining former Pontiac owners. Get a few more stories like this latest report from Edmund's Auto Observer, and it will mark an ongoing positive trend for GM. Edmunds.com crunched the numbers to see how well the General is hanging on to customers after shutting out the lights at Pontiac, and it found that nearly 40 percent of Pontiac owners stayed with a vehicle from a General Motors brand.
The numbers are a little lower than an earlier R.L. Polk & Company study, but Edmunds says General Motors is keeping more former Pontiac buyers than it has since 2007. Most are turning to vehicles from Chevrolet, especially during January and February of 2011, when GM incentivized Pontiac owners to stay under the umbrella. Those moves seem to have worked, and 28.1 percent of Pontiac owners trading up made the jump into a Bowtie.
Buyers that have gone elsewhere have largely stayed loyal to Domestic automakers, with Ford picking up the most conquests from Pontiac, with 9.4 percent switching. Toyota and Honda picked up 7.4 percent of the pool of former Pontiac drivers. The numbers are defying any predictions that Pontiac buyers would completely exit the General Motors fold, and have climbed up closer to parity with the retention figures of other GM brands from a 2009 low of only 16 percent retention.
GM recalling over 40,000 Chevy, Pontiac and Saturn models over fuel pump woes
Mon, 01 Oct 2012The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has issued a recall for a number of General Motors cars and crossovers bought or currently registered in the hot-climate states of Arkansas, Arizona, California, Nevada, Oklahoma and Texas. As many as 40,859 units consisting of the 2007 Chevrolet Equinox, Pontiac Torrent and Saturn Ion and the 2007-2009 Chevrolet Cobalt (shown) and its Pontiac G5 twin are being recalled for potential fuel leaks.
This recall is being issued due to potentially faulty fuel pump components that can crack and cause gasoline to leak from the return or supply ports and possibly cause a fire. NHTSA has not indicated how many fuel leaks or vehicle fires have been reported. As a fix, GM will replace the fuel pump modules on all affected vehicles free of charge. Since Pontiac and Saturn have been shuttered, owners will be able to go to another GM-brand dealership to have their vehicles repaired.
While the list of affected cars and crossovers varies by state and model year, if you own any of these models and live in Arizona, California, Florida, Nevada, Oklahoma or Texas, be sure to check the official notice below for more details.
This 1927 Oakland is a minimalist hot rod
Fri, 21 Feb 2014There are hundreds of American automakers that sprung up during the dawn of the automotive era, only to fold into obscurity or get gobbled up by what would eventually become the Big Four (yes, we're counting AMC here). Oakland is one such company, which was the forbearer for General Motors' Pontiac division. Sold until 1931, you simply don't see Oakland-badged cars anymore. Unless, that is, you know Brian Bent.
Bent drives a 1927 Oakland that still rides on wooden wheels. Its original wooden wheels, from the sound of it. That makes this anachronist and his Oakland the perfect subject for a Petrolicious video. Like many of the cars highlighted by Petrolicious, this old Oakland has had some work done to it, featuring a Pontiac flathead engine that's been pushed forward and a clutch pack built by Bent.
Take a look below for a closer look at this rare and fascinating Oakland.
