=========================================
THIS IS AN ULTRA COLLECTIBLE 1988 PONTIAC MERA WITH NORTHSTAR V8, SPECIAL UPGRADED INTERIOR, ONLY 21,522 MILES, AND THIS WAS THE CAR BELONGING TO BOB BRACEY, WHO CREATED THE MERA!

SEVERAL MAJOR UPGRADES & UNIQUE CHARACTERISTICS MAKE THIS MERA THE MOST DESIRABLE, AND THE ABSOLUTE RAREST IN EXISTENCE!
========================================================

FIRST, AN EXPLANATION ABOUT WHAT EXACTLY IS A MERA, AND WHAT MAKES THIS A VERY RARE, UNIQUE PART OF AMERICAN AUTO HISTORY.

THIS AUCTION IS FOR A 1988 PONTIAC MERA. THIS CAR IS VERY DIFFERENT THAN A 308 KIT/REPLICA, IN FACT IT IS NOT A KIT. IT WAS PROFESSIONALLY BUILT BRAND NEW STRAIGHT OFF THE PONTIAC SHOWROOM FLOOR. THIS CAR HAD TO BE PURCHASED/ORDERED STRAIGHT FROM A PONTIAC DEALER IN 1987-1988. A BRAND NEW FIERO HAD TO BE BOUGHT & THEN THE UPGRADE TO THE MERA ORDERED AT THE SAME TIME AT THE DEALERSHIP. THE CAR WOULD THEN BE PROFESSIONALLY BUILT BY CORPORATE CONCEPTS IN MICHIGAN. THE RESULT OF THIS IS A CAR THAT HAS MUCH BETTER CONSTRUCTION & WITHOUT THE USUAL IMPERFECTIONS FOUND IN AFTERMARKET "KITS". CORPORATE CONCEPTS WOULD NOT DO THIS CONVERSION ON ANY USED FIEROS, ONLY BRAND NEW PURCHASED DIRECTLY FROM PONTIAC DEALERS! THE COST WAS HIGH ESPECIALLY FOR BACK IN 87/88, TYPICAL INVOICE WAS AROUND $30K (WHEREAS A NEW FIERO WOULD BE AROUND $13K).

BECAUSE OF THE STRONG SIMILARITY TO A PARTICULAR ITALIAN EXOTIC, LEGAL ISSUES FOLLOWED, & ULTIMATELY PRODUCTION OF THE MERA WAS ORDERED TO CEASE IN 1988. DUE TO THIS FACT, ONLY 247 WERE EVER MADE
OVER A 2 YEAR PERIOD. MANY HAVE DISAPPEARED OVER THE YEARS, BEEN WRECKED, & SOME WERE SHIPPED OVERSEAS. AS A RESULT, VERY FEW OF THE 247 STILL EXIST TODAY, AND EVEN FEWER IN GREAT SHAPE.

THIS ONE IS IN AMAZING CONDITION, AND HAS RARE DOCUMENTATION SHOWING IT WAS THE PERSONAL MERA BELONGING TO THE FOUNDER OF CORPORATE CONCEPTS. IT ALSO HAS THOUSANDS IN UPGRADES THAT WERE DONE TO IT, INCLUDING INSTALLING A NORTHSTAR V8, AND AN IMMACULATE INTERIOR LIKE NO OTHER MERA. THUS, THERE IS NOT ANOTHER MERA IN THE WORLD LIKE THIS ONE, NOR ONE AS SPECIAL AS THIS CAR.

THE MERA STORY IS AN INTERESTING ONE, & MOST AMAZING IS THAT THIS WAS ALL DONE STRAIGHT FROM A PONTIAC DEALER. A UNIQUE PIECE OF U.S. AUTO HISTORY, THINK ABOUT IT, THIS WAS A MAJOR CAR COMPANY ALLOWING THEIR CAR TO BE TRANSFORMED INTO THE LOOK OF AN EXOTIC....CRAZY! THAT WILL NEVER HAPPEN AGAIN FOR SURE! PRESENTLY, THE EXOTIC CAR COMPANIES HAVE STILL BEEN GOING AFTER SPOT-ON REPLICA KIT MAKERS. THUS KITS WILL BE HARDER TO FIND, & THE MERA IS A HUGE STEP ABOVE A KIT IN QUALITY CONTROL, MAKING THESE HARD TO FIND CARS A TRUE COLLECTIBLE!
===========================================================
A Note About 1987 Versus 1988 Mera's:
In general, all Mera's are rare & of value if in great condition. However, the 1988 Fiero was improved greatly by GM in its final year, especially in terms of handling & suspension, which was similar to the Lotus design. It is a documented fact that even in terms of Fiero value & collectibility, the 1988's hold the highest value.
So, when you consider that, it is obvious as to why this would also make a 1988 Mera just that much more desirable than an '87 in the same condition, if all things are equal. Also, the Chromodora wheels were included on the 1988's.
===========================================================
The ONLY reason for this car being offered is because I have an ill parent & I will very soon be relocating back out to the Las Vegas Area as a result, & thus I have to take action due to my situation. Due to my having to move & the financial burden of doing so, I am selling some vehicles I never planned to, such as this very unique collectible car and others. Right now, I still have too many cars to transport, so I must continue to downsize to reduce high moving costs. Otherwise I would never, ever consider offering this rare, special car!
==========================================================
ABOUT THIS SPECIFIC ULTRA RARE,
 ONE OF A KIND MERA:
ALL MERA'S ARE RARE, AS THERE AR FAR LESS THAN THE ORIGINAL 247 STILL AROUND. BUT THIS UNIQUE MERA, BECAUSE OF THE AMAZING CONDITION, ENGINE UPGRADE, INTERIOR, LOW MILEAGE, AND DOCUMENTED HISTORY SUBSTANTIATING THIS AS THE CAR BELONGING TO THE FOUNDER OF THE CAR ITSELF, IS FAR AND AWAY THE MOST UNIQUE AND DESIRABLE OF ANY MERA IN EXISTENCE. NO EXPENSE WAS SPARED TO MAKE THIS CAR INTO WHAT IS A BEAUTIFUL CAR INSIDE & OUT.

HERE IS A RUNDOWN OF SOME OF WHAT MAKES THIS MERA FAR DIFFERENT THAN ANY OTHER:

1) This car has rare documentation showing that it was the personal Mera belonging to the creator of the Mera & founder of Corporate Concepts, Robert (Bob) Bracey. This makes this car ultra-rare amongst all remaining Mera's, not even considering all of the other things about this car that make it special! Also, very rare original Mera color brochures in mint condition are with the paperwork.

2)Has costly NORTHSTAR 32 VALVE 315 HP V8 Conversion! Including transmission work & Very Sweet LED Gear Display on center console, and custom shifter! I do not know of another Mera with this! This car is a rocket ship with that N* motor! Scary fast! The swap alone is over $10,000.

3)No expense was spared in making this interior the nicest I have seen on any Mera. Seats were custom by Mr. Mike, & there are upgrades to the dash, including a tastefully done carbon fiber finish that works perfectly in this car! LED shift display on console & Chrome shifter look incredible. VERY rare original In-dash upgrade option CD deck from 1988 in pristine shape! And interior is in fantastic condition. Just sweet. Like no other Mera.

4)Beautiful Black Gloss Exterior in excellent condition. Really stands out & shows so well on this car, very classy.

5)The Original Chromodora Italian Wheels are on this car! These are nearly impossible to locate, & are an integral part of the 1988 Mera!!!

6)Car was upgraded with Rodney Dickman Front Bumper & Lights installed! A really nice upgrade that looks great! I do still have the original front bumper!

7)Real, 100% fully working Vitaloni dual motorized mirrors are on this car! They are stock on the Mera, very hard to come by & VERY costly even if they can be found!

These are some of the special aspects that set this Mera apart from all others. The pictures also tell much of the story of how this car stands out.

CONDITION REPORT
EXTERIOR:
The exterior is in great condition, just as it appears in the pictures. There are some imperfections that can be found in the paint, but this car looks incredible, the black shows so well on this body style, very distinctive!  The pictures help illustrate how this car turns heads & constantly elicits photos from people. It is as close as you will come to a 308, it fools many.

UNDER HOOD/REAR ENGINE AREA:
When you lift the rear lid & expose the NORTHSTAR V8, it is a sweet sight! It proves this car is not all about the awesome appearance. As for the front under hood area, it is as clean as you'll find on a 1988 Mera. Again, see the pictures for the proof.

INTERIOR
The interior of this car is in amazing shape! (See pics)
 And the work done to it makes this Mera a one of a kind! The custom seats are in great condition, as is the dash, center console area, doors, and carpet! All electronics & gauges function properly! And that includes the mint condition, rare original AC/Delco CD in dash. Most all Fiero's (& Mera's) got the standard AM/FM/Cassette deck. The AM/FM/CD was an expensive & rarely seen option back in 1988. But since this was Bob Bracey's personal vehicle, it has all upgrades. Please check out the pictures to see how sweet the shift area & LED gear display looks. I added a GPS with rear view  LCD Monitor, as well as XM & HD Radios--all without making ANY modifications to the interior by using a gooseneck flexible mount that attached to the passenger seat bolt. The interior of this car is awesome!

CONDITION SUMMARY
Everything works as it should in this rare Mera. The car sits low to the ground & handles like a slot car. And you do have to be a bit careful when hitting the gas with the Northstar! This car will launch!

Tires are Goodyear all around.
Pop up headlight motors work properly.

SHIPPING:

Vehicle can be shipped/picked up once cleared payment in full is received from buyer. I am happy to assist the buyer with any shipping arrangements on my end. I will go out of my way to help. Shipping of the car is the financial responsibility of the buyer. I have sold 4 cars over my 13+ years on ebay, all were sold to buyers out of area, all were shipped & went very smoothly, including other collectible cars. They were shipped because it was actually much easier & cheaper for the buyer.

The auto transport business is super competitive so its definitely worth checking in to a quote if not a local buyer. Uship is a great place to get a deal, I will be using it when I make my move soon to Vegas.

(The car is located in Orlando FL, zip code 32835 if you are getting quotes)

QUESTIONS ETC

If you have a legitimate question, I will try my best to answer it.

 I always try to be very detailed & give a lot of information, and I also include the eBay maximum allowed number of pictures (24) in my listings to reduce the number of unnecessary questions, this has worked well in my prior auctions. I would have actually put more pictures if possible, but ebay only permits 24. If there is anything you need a picture of, let me know.

However, please do not ask me what the reserve price is. I prefer to let the auction run its course as intended. I have handled my last few auctions this way, & it works much better.  The reserve was not intended on ebay to be disclosed, otherwise it would be shown! The reserve is below the book value. Bid what you want to pay, regardless of the reserve. If you are the high bidder & the reserve is met, then that's how it works.

AGAIN, I WILL NOT END THE AUCTION EARLY, TAKE OFFERS, OR DISCLOSE THE RESERVE. IT'S NOT DISCLOSED BY EBAY BY DESIGN.

 SO PLEASE DO NOT ASK. THANKS!

****************************************

As with any private party used vehicle on ebay, this is sold as-is with no warranty included or implied. That said, I have done my best to represent this car as best as possible.

Bid with total confidence--I have 100% feedback over many years as an ebay member.

Don't miss out on this immaculate, rare MERA!

Thanks for your interest!

This or That: 2005 Chrysler Crossfire SRT6 vs. 1984 Pontiac Fiero

Tue, Feb 10 2015

Welcome to another round of This or That, where two Autoblog editors pick a topic, pick a side and pull no punches. Last round pitted yours truly against Associate Editor Brandon Turkus, and my chosen VW Vanagon Syncro narrowly defeated Brandon's 1987 Land Rover. In fact, it was, by far, the closest round we've seen, with 1,907 voters seeing things my way (for 50.8 percent of the vote) versus 1,848 votes for Brandon's Rover (49.2 percent). Sweet, sweet victory! For this latest round of This or That, I've roped Editor Greg Migliore into what I think is a rather fun debate. We've each chosen our favorite terrible cars, setting a price limit of $10,000 to make sure neither of us went too crazy with our automotive atrocities. I think we've both chosen terribly... and I mean that in the best way possible. 2005 Chrysler Crossfire SRT6 Jeremy Korzeniewski: Why It's Terrible: Taken in isolation, the Chrysler Crossfire isn't necessarily a terrible car. In fact, it drives pretty darn well, and there's a lot of solid engineering under its slinky shape. Problem is, that engineering was already rather long in the tooth well before Chrysler ever got its hands on it, having come from Mercedes-Benz, which used the basic chassis and drivetrain in a previous version of its SLK coupe and roadster. Granted, the SLK was an okay car, too, but even when new, it hardly set the world on fire with sporty driving dynamics. Chrysler took these decent-but-no-more bits and pieces from the Mercedes parts bin – remember, this car was conceived in the disastrous Merger Of Equals days – and covered them with a rather attractive hard-candy shell. Unfortunately, the super sporty shape wrote checks in the minds of buyers that its well-worn mechanicals were simply unable to cash, though an injection of power courtesy of a supercharged V6 engine in the SRT6 model, as seen here, certainly helped ease some of those woes. In the end, Chrysler was left with a so-called halo car that looked the part but never quite performed the part. It was almost universally panned by critics as an overpriced parts-bin special, which, I must add, was damningly accurate. As a result, sales were very slow, and within the first few months, dealers were clearancing the car at cut-rate prices, just to keep them from taking up too much of the showroom floor. Why It's Not That Terrible, After All: I can speak from personal experience when discussing the Chrysler Crossfire. You see, I owned one. Well, sort of...

Burt Reynolds Smokey and the Bandit Trans Am sells for $450k

Mon, Dec 15 2014

Apparently, there's still a lot of love out there for by Burt Reynolds and his famous role in Smokey and the Bandit – or at least for his car. As you might remember, Autoblog reported on the auction of the 1977 Pontiac Trans Am a few week ago. At the time, the movie star's car was already well past its $80,000 top estimate, and bidding only shot up from there for a final price of $450,000. That seems like a lot of money for a Trans Am that never actually appears in Smokey and the Bandit. According to the listing, the car was used to promote the film and was given to Reynolds afterward with his name on the title as proof of ownership. The Trans Am looks practically identical to the one in the movie with black paint, the gold firebird on the hood and Bandit name on the driver's door. This one packs a 400-cubic-inch (6.6-liter) V8 with a 4-barrel carburetor under the hood, an automatic transmission and a plaque inside the door that proclaims "1977 Pontiac Trans Am Owned By Burt Reynolds." The wedding stagecoach based on an International Harvester Scout we mentioned in the earlier story also beat its top estimate of $20,000. It went for $34,375, according to the auction house's website, and in total the sale raised about $2.5 million. Scroll down to read the full announcement from Julien's Auctions. LEGENDARY STAR BURT REYNOLDS PROVES TO BE AS ICONIC AS HIS AUCTION RESULTS "Smokey and the Bandit" Trans Am Sells for $450,000 Career Memorabilia including Awards, Personal Items and Film Worn Costumes along with Vast Art Collection from Reynolds Museum Caliber Private Collection Featured at Julien's Auctions This Week Brings in $2.5 million Las Vegas, Nevada – (December 15, 2014) – Julien's Auctions, the auction house to the stars concluded a whirlwind two-day auction of The Collection of Award Winning Actor Burt Reynolds. The exciting auction event featuring personal effects, career memorabilia, and a museum-caliber fine art collection took place at the Palms Casino Resort Thursday and Friday with bidders from around the world bidding high and bidding often. Burt Reynolds, best known as a leading film star, has had a storied career both on the big and small screen. Aside from his award winning portrayals of some of the world's most iconic characters in film and television, Reynolds is also a businessman who has owned a football team, a dinner theatre, a working ranch and even a museum.

Sell Your Own: 2006 Pontiac GTO

Tue, Jun 27 2017

This is part of an occasional look at cars for sale in Autoblog's classifieds. Want to sell your car? We make it easy and free. Quickly create listings with up to six photos and reach millions of buyers. Log in and create your free listings. In the early '60s, Baby Boomers born immediately after World War II were beginning to buy cars and enjoy their own distinctive music. This wasn't yet the drug culture; rather, it was the drag culture, more Jan and Dean "Dead Man's Curve" than Beatles "Lucy In The Sky." And a Baby Boomer's desired ride, more often than not, was Pontiac's GTO. Introduced as a manned-up option for Pontiac's compact Tempest, the early GTO was 389 cubic inches of romp and stomp. And with a marketing campaign that hit Middle America via what it watched and ate (TV ads and cereal-box promos were a big part of the GTO launch), there was no escaping it. Like most performance coupes and convertibles, 10 years later it was became an emasculated version of its once lusty self. And then it was gone. Its revival, championed by General Motors executive Bob Lutz, was not by any stretch the Second Coming. Starting in 2004, GM modified its Australian-built Holden Monaro to approximate the excitement of the original formula: a coupe body propelled by a big V8. But the Holden's sheetmetal was quietly styled, and even the 400 horsepower available by 2006 didn't electrify buyers. With hindsight, the resurrected GTO is enjoying more attention and, slowly but surely, increasing in value. This for-sale example shows well, enjoys low mileage, and is – naturally – priced well above what is perceived to be its market value. Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party.
