Thomson's 2007 ls7 Pontiac Solstice project car

The car runs and drives flawlessly, with excellent start-up, idle quality and overall drivability - it's a car you could drive easily to work every day and embarrass unsuspecting supercar owners on the way home. In fact, this Solstice has been on several Hot Rod Power Tour drives with excellent dependability and it's capable of 20+ mpg, if you keep your foot out of it - which is almost impossible! It was featured on the cover of Pontiac Enthusiast magazine, too.

To achieve 630 hp with reliability, the LS7 was rebuilt with an all-forged rotating assembly, with a forged steel crank, titanium rods and forged pistons, a new camshaft and other upgrades. It has a Corvette-style dry-sump oiling system and custom stainless steel headers with a 3-inch exhaust system. It has a high-capacity radiator and Corvette electric cooling fan. The battery is relocated to the trunk. It is hooked to a Tremec 6-speed manual transmission, using a Corvette clutch. putting the power to the ground is a cadillac cts-v rear end.

The car also has SSBC brakes all around, with slotted rotors, as well as the GM road-race suspension upgrade. The hood is a custom, one-off made in carbon fiber and the car wears the GXP front/rear fascias. Inside, the seats were re-trimmed with red leather inserts.

I took this car to a car show this weekend and im glad i did. It was the first time i have drove it and I can not say enough about this car. This is not your average ls7 solstice. This car was held to GM oem style fit and finish. If you were not familiar with these cars you would think this is how gm made them and it is how we all wish they would have.

If anyone has any questions please fell free to give me a call. My name is dave. 248-508-4093

This 1927 Oakland is a minimalist hot rod

Fri, 21 Feb 2014

There are hundreds of American automakers that sprung up during the dawn of the automotive era, only to fold into obscurity or get gobbled up by what would eventually become the Big Four (yes, we're counting AMC here). Oakland is one such company, which was the forbearer for General Motors' Pontiac division. Sold until 1931, you simply don't see Oakland-badged cars anymore. Unless, that is, you know Brian Bent.
Bent drives a 1927 Oakland that still rides on wooden wheels. Its original wooden wheels, from the sound of it. That makes this anachronist and his Oakland the perfect subject for a Petrolicious video. Like many of the cars highlighted by Petrolicious, this old Oakland has had some work done to it, featuring a Pontiac flathead engine that's been pushed forward and a clutch pack built by Bent.
Take a look below for a closer look at this rare and fascinating Oakland.

General Lee takes on Bandit T/A in classic Hollywood car showdown [w/poll]

Fri, 26 Aug 2011

You don't have to be born in the 1960s or 1970s to be able to recognize the General Lee from The Dukes of Hazzard and the Pontiac Trans Am from Smokey and the Bandit. These old school four-wheeled stars seem to transcend demographics thanks to the miles of film that show the orange 1969 Dodge Charger and the jet-black 1977 Pontiac Trans Am performing seemingly impossible stunts.
The folks at Hot Rod magazine are obviously hip to this fact, and they put together a fun video in tribute of the instantly recognizable duo. Hit the jump to watch on as Sam Young and James Smith replace Bo Duke and The Bandit for a bit of dirt-road shenanigans in a pair of otherwise well cared for classics. We're not so sure we'd call it the best chase scene ever, but it sure looks like a lot of fun.
More importantly, which of these two cars would you rather own? Have your say in our poll below.

Sci-fi movie Jinn features car designer, Firebird-bodied Camaro

Tue, 08 Apr 2014

If you're an automotive engineer being tormented by an immortal being made of fire, then wouldn't you think it best to have a custom coupe called the FireBreather for your getaway car? That's the FireBreather in the image above, adorned by the red wings that once fronted the Pontiac Firebird, running away from a black cloud of evil in a trailer for the movie Jinn.
The Jinn is eternal evil, always waiting for the chance to make things float across rooms before going on homicidal urban rampages. The FireBreather is a Gen-V Chevrolet Camaro - from the V6 to the ZL1 - that's been through Classic Design Concepts' extensive list of exterior and interior modifications, including entirely new front and rear fascias and side skirts, sway bars and springs, Pirelli P Zeroes and an available Edelbrock supercharger.
The movie - FireBreathing chase scenes and all - was shot in Monroe, Michigan. You can watch the trailer below, but since the FireBreather only get a couple of seconds on screen, you can find out more about it on Street Legal TV and its official site.
