2006 Pontiac Solstice Base Convertible 2-door 2.4l on 2040-cars
Friendswood, Texas, United States
Here for sale is my 2006 Pontiac Solstice. This is going no reserve. I bought this car mid 08 when it had 24k miles on it. As you can see from the milage now (51542) it has not been driven much. that being said this is a daily driver but the commute is very short. I'm not going to sit here and tell you its show room perfect it's an 06 and has been used. There are some light scratches in the paint a ding or two, the headlights are a little faded and there is a chip in the wind shield. all these are pictured. also the protective films that keep the top from scratching the rear lid are faded. these peel off and new ones can be fixed but really you can't see them when the top is up. The service airbag warning is on do to a faulty sensor under the passenger seat. This is super common on these cars and the chevy cobalts and i'm sure gm will have a recall for those too very soon. It only effects the passenger air bag so i never had it fixed. so thats all the bad stuff.
The good. This car is super fun to drive and it is the closest modern car to the old british sports cars. Rear wheel drive, front engine, manual 5 speed fun. KandN filter. Tires are like new speed rated run flats. The brakes have been uprated to EBC black pads and slotted cross drilled rotors. These were installed at 50k. This car has spent its life in Texas and has no rust. A/C blows ice cold and the heat will melt your face. Oil has been changed with synthetic ever 3k miles no excuses. I really love driving this car and would keep it o drop a LT1 in it later on but looking out on my driveway I think 6 cars is a few too many. All the dents and cracks are in the pictures so take a look. If you need to see anything else just ask. Also if you have any questions please ask. Again this will be a no reserve auction so bid away. Good luck. |

1939 Pontiac Ghost Car commands $308,000 at auction
Mon, 01 Aug 2011For the 1939 World's Fair, Pontiac built a Deluxe Six bodied in Plexiglass. Part of the Previews of Progress pavilion in which General Motors' Futurama showed off what was to come in the world of autos, the 'invisible' Pontiac is credited as the first transparent car in America. And there were no shortcuts taken with its body: the Plexiglass form was fabricated by the company that brought the material to market in 1933, Rohm & Haas.
The see-through sedan was sold at RM Auctions' St. John's auction in Michigan on July 30, fetching $308,000. Not bad appreciation for a domestic oddity that cost $25,000 to build when new. You can check out the high-res gallery of its innards, including copper and chrome metalwork and white moldings and wheels, and get the exhaustive details on it after the jump.
GM recalling 778,000 Cobalts and G5s, six deaths reported
Thu, 13 Feb 2014General Motors has announced that it will be recalling 778,562 compact cars after six people were killed in accidents, partially due to the airbags' failure to deploy. An issue with the ignition switch is causing the airbag issues, as well as causing the engine and other components to shut off without warning. The recall covers the 2005 to 2007 model year Chevrolet Cobalt and 2007 Pontiac G5. (Note that the Cobalt pictured above is a 2009 model.)
According to a report from Automotive News, a number of factors can cause the ignition to switch out of the run position, including weights on the key ring, rough or bumpy roads or other "jarring" events. Any of these situations could lead to some vehicle components not functioning properly.
There have been five fatal front-impact crashes that took the lives of six people, although as a GM spokesman noted, all five of the crashes happened off road and at high speed. In each of these cases, though, the lack of airbags wasn't the only lethal factor - alcohol and failure to wear a seat belt also played a role. Outside of the fatal accidents, there have been 17 other crashes where airbags didn't deploy. It's unclear if any of these crashes were caused by the engine shutting off.
Lutz says Washington killed Pontiac, next G6 was to be ATS derivative
Tue, 29 Oct 2013How many people think Buick or GMC should have gotten the axe instead of Pontiac? You can't see it, but I'm raising my hand. Autoweek reports that former Vice Chairman of GM, Bob Lutz, has indicated that things didn't have to end up the way they did.
"The Feds said, 'Yeah, how much money have you made on Pontiac in the last 10 years?' and the answer was, 'Nothing.'"
In a talk given at the Petersen Automotive Museum for the Inside the MotoMan Studio series, Lutz says "The Feds said, 'Yeah, how much money have you made on Pontiac in the last 10 years?' and the answer was, 'Nothing.' So, it goes. And when the guy who is handing you the check for $53 billion says, 'I don't want Pontiac, drop Pontiac or you don't get the money,' it doesn't take you very long to make up your mind." Lutz even added that the next-generation Pontiac G6 would have benefitted from the rear-wheel-drive platform of the Cadillac ATS. How awesome would that have been?
