1964 Pontiac Le Mans with GTO badging

This is a great example of the beginning of the Muscle Car generation!  A great car you can get in, turn the key and drive off in.  Mechanically, there is nothing wrong with this vehicle - it starts and runs just as its supposed to, and sounds just like a true muscle car is supposed to sound!

In the ten years we've owned this car, we haven't done anything to the cosmetics to refurbish or restore the car beyond its current condition.  However, as you can see from the photographs, the car looks beautiful and the interior is almost 95% original with the original vinyl seats.  The only thing I know is not original are the two kick panels with speakers.  The radio in the dash is original, however the guts were removed and replaced with a solid state chassis and mated to an XM tuner in the glove compartment.  The car is 51 years old and probably drives just as it did when new (which is not what you'ld expect if you've never driven a car from the sixties era).

We have done regular maintenance on this car and when necessary, we've replaced mechanical components that needed repair or replacement including rebuilding the automatic transmission approximately five years ago and replacing most of the suspension components about three years ago.

The car has GTO badging on the body outside and inside the doors and dash as well as a tri-power carburetor set up on the original 326 V-8 engine.

The mileage is showing 54,107 and I believe that may be accurate - before we owned this car it sat on blocks in someone's garage in St. Louis, MO.  We brought it to dry El Paso, TX where its been driven perhaps twice a month and stored in a garage 100% of the time.

The car is insured for "stated value" and the insurance company placed a $25,000 value on the car.  We are willing to see it sell for substantially less, but we're not going to give it away.  If you have a question about where our reserve might be, or wish to make an offer for an early sale, write us.  The car is also listed locally and we reserve the right to cancel this listing early if the car is sold locally.

If you are the successful buyer, you will need to paypal a $500.00 non refundable deposit within 24 hours and pay the balance within 3 business days via wire transfer or cashier check.  If the final payment is by cashier check, we will hold up delivery of the car until our bank has assured us the check (even cashier checks) has cleared.

You are responsible for arranging shipping on this car, but we're happy to help in the process by making the car available for pick up whenever necessary.  But, please don't arrange to pick up the car until we have assured you that all funds have cleared.  The title is a clear Texas title and we will deliver the signed title and any documents necessary for you to transfer title in your state.

For shipping purposes the car is located in the 79912 zip code.

Junkyard Gem: 2001 Pontiac Aztek

Tue, Jul 11 2017

Ah, the Pontiac Aztek. Everyone laughs at the Aztek ... except, apparently, for Coloradans who like to go camping, bike riding, hiking, and all that outdoorsy stuff that folks do in the Centennial State. You'll see Azteks being driven, unironically and without shame, all over the place in the Denver region, and now plenty of them are showing up in the local wrecking yards. Here's a first-year-of-production example in its final campground. These minivans or crossovers (or however the experts finally decided to categorize them) had built-in air compressors, audio controls in the rear cargo area, and other features meant to enhance tailgating, camping, and other activities deemed central to Generation X's allegedly active lifestyle. You could even get an optional camping kit with a tent that attached to the rear of the Aztek. So, it was a General Motors minivan-like vehicle, cousin of the weird-looking Dustbusters of the 1990s, with lots of useful features for those who did more than just commute to work and drop off kids at school. Unfortunately for GM, the Aztek was staggeringly ugly, and Generation Xers were too damned broke to buy new cars in 2001, anyway. I see plenty of them in Denver-area wrecking yards now, along with their slightly-less-offensive-looking Buick Rendezvous siblings, and so I decided to document one before they're all gone. Tony Stewart to star in Smoke Is The Bandit web series

Mon, 10 Mar 2014

NASCAR driver Tony Stewart is making good use of his nickname Smoke in new videos inspired by the 1970s classic Smokey and the Bandit. The original is one of the quintessential automotive movies of its era with a fantastic combination of slapstick comedy and great car stunts in a Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. If you've never seen it, check it out immediately.
In the new six-part Smoke IS the Bandit web series, Stewart takes on the role of Burt Reynolds' famous character complete with huge mustache. But instead of trying to smuggle cases of Coors beer it's Mobil 1 oil. The series promises to recreate many of the famous scenes from the movie and includes cameos from other NASCAR drivers.
To complete the look, future videos just need a quality replacement for a young Sally Field to ride shotgun. It would also be really cool if Reynolds could make a brief appearance at some point. Scroll down to check out the trailer and the first episode in the series.

German prosecutors have recorded calls between VW bigwigs talking dieselgate

Thu, Mar 21 2019

It's barely possible to believe how poorly Volkswagen continues to handle dieselgate. Depending on which day you catch the news, the German carmaker embodies the corporate venality of "Michael Clayton," the comic blundering of the Coen Brothers' "Burn After Reading," and the every-man-for-himself vengeance of "Reservoir Dogs." Today is Tarantino day, with news that German prosecutors have recordings of phone calls between former Audi and Porsche development boss Wolfgang Hatz, ex-Volkswagen Group executive Matthias Muller, and current Porsche executives Oliver Blume and Michael Steiner. Hatz made the calls to the trio in November 2015, two months after Volkswagen admitted its diesel-particulate sins to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency. Hatz was still employed at the time, and in his company car. Who recorded the calls? His wife. Hatz and his missus apparently saw the storm coming and started stacking defenses early. Hatz's wife, who can be heard encouraging Hatz during at least one call, sent the recordings to Hatz's attorney from her mobile phone. According to a Google translation of the German newspaper Handelsblatt's report, she included the note, "Here is a very long, but quite informative conversation on the current situation with useful formulations." The report in Handelsblatt said that in Germany it is generally "not allowed" to record a conversation and pass it on to a third party. We don't know how the authorities will handle this matter, since prosecutors found the recordings in e-mail attachments on Mrs. Hatz's mobile phone. Remember, when the diesel scandal broke, VW spent months saying that only a small number of low-level personnel were behind it, and all of the higher-ups had been blindsided. Ex-CEO Martin Winterkorn claimed to be "stunned that misconduct on such a scale was possible in the Volkswagen Group." Winterkorn successor Matthias Muller said, "according to current information, a few developers interfered in the engine management." Former VW USA honcho Michael Horn told a congressional committee that "a couple of software engineers" programmed the software for reasons no one could understand. In the recorded conversations, Hatz apparently called Muller to find out how VW planned to treat him.
