The matching number engine is long gone, but a 1970 GTO YZ code Ram Air 3 engine is included with this auction. The engine (standard bore)is a 4 bolt main block and has the pistons, rods, crank and #12 heads with it. A turbo 400 transmission will also be included as well. The interior of this car has been reupholstered and the seats have new covers and buns, front and rear, new door panels-assembled , new carpet, n.o.s. door sill plates and a new package tray that hasn't been installed yet. Miscellaneous items include, new windshield, 14X7 rally 2 wheels that have been restored with new beauty rings and an original rear bumper that needs replating with all brackets, AM/FM GTO radio and factory wood wheel. The original dash is still in the car and is unrestored with the original tach and gauges along with an uncut radio bezel. The car currently has a 3.23 12 bolt posi rear end out of a 1969 Olds 442 that has been redone. The items missing from this car are a gas tank and a front valance. 1939 Pontiac Ghost Car commands $308,000 at auction

Mon, 01 Aug 2011

For the 1939 World's Fair, Pontiac built a Deluxe Six bodied in Plexiglass. Part of the Previews of Progress pavilion in which General Motors' Futurama showed off what was to come in the world of autos, the 'invisible' Pontiac is credited as the first transparent car in America. And there were no shortcuts taken with its body: the Plexiglass form was fabricated by the company that brought the material to market in 1933, Rohm & Haas.
The see-through sedan was sold at RM Auctions' St. John's auction in Michigan on July 30, fetching $308,000. Not bad appreciation for a domestic oddity that cost $25,000 to build when new. You can check out the high-res gallery of its innards, including copper and chrome metalwork and white moldings and wheels, and get the exhaustive details on it after the jump.

This 1927 Oakland is a minimalist hot rod

Fri, 21 Feb 2014

There are hundreds of American automakers that sprung up during the dawn of the automotive era, only to fold into obscurity or get gobbled up by what would eventually become the Big Four (yes, we're counting AMC here). Oakland is one such company, which was the forbearer for General Motors' Pontiac division. Sold until 1931, you simply don't see Oakland-badged cars anymore. Unless, that is, you know Brian Bent.
Bent drives a 1927 Oakland that still rides on wooden wheels. Its original wooden wheels, from the sound of it. That makes this anachronist and his Oakland the perfect subject for a Petrolicious video. Like many of the cars highlighted by Petrolicious, this old Oakland has had some work done to it, featuring a Pontiac flathead engine that's been pushed forward and a clutch pack built by Bent.
Take a look below for a closer look at this rare and fascinating Oakland.
