For sale is a completely restored, PHS documented, number matching 1970 GTO. This car is 1 of 1900 original, Starlight Black car produced in 1970. It is also an original, Black Vinyl Top car with extremely rare, RED interior, making the color and top combination extremely rare. It has just received a two year, "Frame Off" restoration. The car was completely disassembled and painstakingly restored and reassembled. As of this writing, the car has never been shown, and only has shake-down miles since the restoration was completed. This particular GTO is 1059, and was built on the third day of production, in the Baltimore plant on Aug 17, 1969. As verified by the title and the previous owner, it has only 57k original miles. The original owner drove the car till it lost oil pressure, in 1974 and parked it. The second “physical owner”, was a friend of the original owner. He purchased the car when his friend filed for divorce, but he never titled the car in his name. When I purchased the car, it had been off the road, in dry storage for almost four decades! The car still retains the original drive train, that is completely rebuilt, including the original 9799914 block w/VIN, 12 heads, 7040263 carb, 068 intake, 1111176 distributor, 660 M20 trans w/VIN, frame, Harrison radiator, rad support, and its ORIGINAL BUILT SHEET! There are six verifiable VINs on this car, they are as follows: Drivers door tag, Dash VIN plate, (2) hidden Firewall VIN around the fan & under the heater box, on the Block, and transmission. The frame VIN is only partially visible but it is there. Options include, 400 CID, WT code engine, with a 4 speed transmission, Power Steering, Power Disk Brakes, Soft Ray Glass, Vinyl Top, bucket Seats & Console and AM radio. During the restoration process I added, Rally gauges, in-dash tachometer, HO exhaust manifolds, 3:90 12 Bolt Posi, and 15" Rally II's wheels. I have the original 3:55 10 bolt rear and will either turn it over to the buyer or re-install it if the buyer prefers. The car still retains all of its exterior sheet metal. There is only one patch in the exterior. It is smaller than a silver dollar, and it is located in the lower LHS quarter, behind the tire, and it’s completely covered by the wheel opening trim. All of the exterior chrome & stainless is in excellent condition, and most of it is also original to the car. The floor and trunk are also original, with only two minor patches, one on the drives toe area and one in the trunk, typical of vinyl top cars. Neither patch can be detected from either inside or under the car. The interior has been completely restored with “Legendary” sear covers, door panels, carpet, arm rests and headliner. The kick panels, seat backs, headrests, console, deluxe steering wheel, and rear view mirror, are original RED items, still with the car, and in great condition. The fit and finish on this car is better than factory original. The panel gaps are show quality. The doors close like a safe, and match with the fenders & the quarters perfectly. The nose alone has well over 10 man days invested to assure the best possible fit & finish! The paint is all PPG products, starting with two coats epoxy sealer, four coats base, three coats clear / wet sand, and two more coats clear! There is almost two thousand dollars in PPG products on this car. I’m selling this car to fund two other projects (70’ GTO 4 speed conv, and a 57’ Chevy conv.) The GTO convertible will be for sale in a month or so, the 57’ is a keeper, sorry! I have over 100 pictures of the car, starting when I found it in a barn through the restoration, and up till today. I started the sale with just a few pics, and will add more current pictures in a day or so. Shoot me an email if you want to see something specific. If you would like to see it in person I will make every effort to accommodate you.

GM recalling another 1.3-million cars over power steering woes

Mon, 31 Mar 2014

When it rains, it pours. General Motors has announced yet another major recall, covering 1.3 million units in the American market over concerns that the power steering could suddenly fail. As reported by The Detroit News' David Shepardson, GM has now recalled nearly ten times as many cars as it did all of last year.
It's important to note that should this problem arise in these cars, the steering won't fail completely, however, power steering could suddenly stop functioning. Manual steering would still be possible, but as GM says, there's an increased risk of accidents, particularly at lower speeds.
Like the ignition switch recall, this latest problem covers a wide range of vehicles from Chevrolet, Saturn and Pontiac. Normally, we'd give you the full rundown in paragraph form, but the variety of models and model years means a list is just easier. So, have a look, directly from GM's press release:

Pontiac should come back as a performance division for GM

Thu, Apr 6 2017

For decades the Pontiac brand was known as GM's performance brand. From the 1964 Pontiac GTO, to the 1967 Firebird, to the 1984 Fiero, to the 2006 Solstice Turbo, and 2009 G8 GXP, Pontiac had a reputation for building exciting cars, with bold styling and performance to back it up. When the Camaro was killed off in 2002, the Pontiac Firebird died off with it, and the last Pontiacs were built in early 2010. But with names like G3, G4, and G6, Pontiac's performance image had long faded from it's earlier glory days. My idea for Pontiac's revival would be to bring it back as a dedicated performance marque similar to Chevy's Super Sport (SS) line up of years past. First, and most obvious would be to bring back the Pontiac Firebird. Offering the entry-level model with the Camaro's 275HP turbo 4 cylinder engine, then having the Camaro SS's 455HP V8, but also offering a halo model Trans Am that is a revamped Camaro ZL-1 along with it's tire-shredding 650HP, supercharged V8 and race tuned suspension. Secondly, I would bring back the GTO. Which I would base on the current Chevy SS, but I would use the full 455-horsepower LS4 V8 (rather than the 415-hp setup that it has now). Furthermore, I would add the impressive 650-hp supercharged V8 to provide real competition to the Charger Hellcat. Importantly, I would make sure that the new GTO had bold, distinctive styling that really set it apart. I understand that purists would want any Pontiac GTO to be a two-door coupe, but I think that they could forgive that if the new GTO was an outstanding American performance car. Next, I would take the Buick Cascada convertible, add much bolder styling, swap in the Camaro's 275-hp turbo engine, and tune up the suspension to provide more performance than luxury (without being harsh). And finally I would round out the line up by using the new 2018 Traverse , but use the new, bold Pontiac design language to spice up the model's looks, tweak the engines for more power, and again provide a performance suspension that matches the model's new sporty looks. Obviously, having a high performance Pontiac model line up would steal away some sales from Chevy, Buick, and Cadillac models. But I think that it would more than make up for this by also stealing away sales from competing brands. Looking Back At Oprah's Free-Car Giveaway 10 Years Later

Fri, Sep 12 2014

Molly Vielweber's Pontiac G6 appears unremarkable at first glance. It wears forest green paint, rolls on five-spoke aluminum wheels, and it has a sizeable scrape in the driver's side door, the scar of a decade's worth of hard use. You wouldn't notice it parked at a big box store or cruising on the highway. Pontiac made hundreds of thousands of G6s in the 2000s, and a lot are still on the road. It's unremarkable in every way except for the front license plate, which reads, "Oprah 6." But this is not just any G6. This car is a part of television history. Vielweber won her G6 10 years ago at a taping of The Oprah Winfrey Show, when Oprah kicked off her 19th season in dramatic fashion by giving all 276 members of the studio audience a free car. It was an unprecedented stunt that changed lives, generated controversy and ultimately failed to provide enough of a marketing lift for Pontiac, which would be shuttered just over five years later. September 13 marks the 10-year anniversary of the memorable event, which caught everyone, including audience members, by surprise. In a masterful display of showmanship, Oprah dialed up the suspense to match the enormity and cost – of the event. First she gave away 11 cars, which would have been a landmark TV promotion by itself. But then she coyly announced: "I've got a little twist." Models circulated throughout the audience carrying silver platters loaded with white boxes wrapped in red ribbon. One contained a set of keys, Oprah implied, for another audience member to win the final car. "Do not open it. Do not shake it," she commanded the crowd. Finally, with the suspense built to a fevered pitch, everyone opened their box. They all had keys. "You get a car! You get a car! You get a car! You get a car! Everybody gets a car!" Oprah exclaimed. "Everybody gets a car! Everybody gets a car!" This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. Everybody did get a car. But not everyone kept it. William Toebe attended the show with his wife, Jillaine, and he immediately thought of the tax implications, which stretched to $6,000 or more for some audience members. It was a tough reality for many in the audience that day, some of which had been selected based on their need for a new car. "That responsible part of me stepped forward and wondered 'where am I going to get the money to pay the taxes?'" he recalled.
