Up for sale, a 1968 GTO Convertible. Not many convertibles were made in 1968. Some minor rust here and there, but nothing unrepairable in my opinion, but I am not a professional body man. I believe the front fenders have been replaced, a trunk pan installed prior to me purchasing the car. The car started and ran when I purchased about a year ago. I removed the non matching engine and trans and sold, as I was going with LS3 engine. I pulled the front end off the car and the radiator support was completely rusted out, but fenders, inner fenders are ok. Minor rusting on front endure bumper and lower valence. the rest of the car is intact in one piece. The interior seems complete, including seats in good condition, original wood steering wheel, convertible top that will go up and down on it's own with a battery, but has been sewn on both sides, does not appear to leak. Original dash, gauges etc. Non factory radio, and the center console has been cut to accommodate a manual trans. Carpet is still in, not sure if original, but pretty good shape. Door panels are there, both need repairs at the bottom, window rollers are there. The convertible boot, or parade cover is gone. No spare, no jack. Frame seems to have surface rust, but I see nothing rusted through. Exhaust is still on the car, manifolds back, but all is pretty rusty. Driveshaft is good. Unsure is rearend is factory or not. 4 wheel disk brakes, unsure if wheels are 68, or original GTO rims. There are a few places on the body that appear to have been painted over rust w/o repairing, like the decklid (minor) and a cracked bondo spot on passenger door. The R Rear marker light is missing. The vinyl on dash is cracked. About 1/2 of the chrome is in good shape, the other half has some dents, but I think it's all present. Not hideaway headlights. It did run, but the brakes did not work, I do not know why. I am selling, because I have had it a year, and haven't had time to touch it and don't see it happening any time soon. I purchased from a dealer in Maine as a project car, and shipped it down to Texas. Before Maine it was in Michigan most of it's life, which explains some of the rusting. The pictures make the car look good, but I have taken the front end off the car. This is a project car, and not perfect, but it sure is nicer than a lot of the projects I see for sale with half the car missing. This car has been stored indoors for the last year. Any questions feel free to ask. I will work with your shipper, you can pick up, or I can even deliver to your door for additional cost. $500 due at auction end, balance in cash when picked up. If I deliver, delivery fees paid up front. Car is sold as is, where is with no warranty expressed or implied.

Question of the Day: Most degraded car name?
Fri, May 27 2016When Ford came up with a not-so-sporty version of the Pinto and slapped Mustang badges on it in 1974, that was a low point for the Mustang name. When Chrysler applied the venerable Town & Country name on perfectly functional but unglamorous minivans, it saddened many of us. But perhaps the biggest demotion for a once-proud model came when, in 1988, General Motors imported a misery-enhancing Daewoo from Korea and called it the Pontiac LeMans. The original Pontiac LeMans was a great-looking midsize car with fairly advanced (for the time) suspension design and engine options including potent V8s and a screaming overhead-cam straight-six. The Daewoo-based Pontiac LeMans was a cramped, shoddy hooptie that served only to ruin the LeMans name forever, while stealing sales from the Suzuki-based Chevrolet Sprint. Sure, using the once-respected Monterey name on the Mercurized Ford Freestar was bad, but Mercury didn't have long to live at that point. I say the downward spiral of the LeMans name was the most agonizing in automotive history. What do you think? Related Video: This content is hosted by a third party. Toyota urges owners of old Corolla, Matrix and RAV4 models to park them until airbags are replaced
Mon, Jan 29 2024DETROIT — Toyota and General Motors are telling the owners of about 61,000 older Corolla, RAV4, Matrix/ Pontiac Vibe models to stop driving them because their Takata airbag inflators are at risk of exploding and hurling shrapnel. The urgent warning Monday covers: Certain Corolla compact cars and Matrix hatchbacks from the 2003 and 2004 model years. RAV4 small SUVs from 2004 and 2005. Also covered are about 11,000 Pontiac Vibes from 2003 and 2004, which are essentially the same as the Matrix and were made at the same California factory. Most of the vehicles are in the U.S. “If the airbag deploys, a part inside is more likely to explode and shoot sharp metal fragments, which could cause serious injury or death to the driver or passengers,” Toyota said in a statement. Owners can go to nhtsa.gov/recalls and enter their 17-digit vehicle identification number to see if their cars are affected. If you're not the original owner of the vehicle, the manufacturer's recall letter might not reach you, so be sure to do the VIN check. The recalled RAV4s have Takata driver's airbags while the Corolla and Matrix models have them on the passenger side. The Corolla and Matrix also are under a separate recall because their airbags can be deployed without a crash, the company said. Both companies said owners should contact a local dealer instead of driving the cars in for repairs. Dealers will provide options such as mobile repair, towing the car to a dealer, or vehicle pickup and delivery. Takata used volatile ammonium nitrate to create a small explosion to inflate airbags in a crash. But the chemical propellant can deteriorate over time when exposed to high temperatures and humidity. It can explode with too much force, blowing apart a metal canister and spewing shrapnel. At least 26 people have been killed in the U.S. by Takata inflators since May 2009, and at least 30 have died worldwide including people in Malaysia and Australia. In addition, about 400 people have been injured. The exploding airbags sent Takata of Japan into bankruptcy. The potential for a dangerous malfunction led to the largest series of auto recalls in U.S. history. About 100 million inflators were recalled worldwide. Recalls Pontiac Toyota Takata airbag recall
Porsche still deciding on one or two new 911 plug-in hybrids
Tue, May 29 2018Back in March, Porsche CEO Oliver Blume told Autocar that the coming Porsche 911 plug-in hybrid "will be the most powerful 911 we've ever had." That quote portended a 992-series 911 with 700 horsepower or more. A new report in Auto Express, however, suggests Porsche is having energetic debates about just what the 911's hybrid strategy will be, and that the only agreed-upon plug-in hybrid 911 so far is a milder version to sit in the middle of the range. Putting all our rumors in a row, in January, Automobile reported on an electrically-assisted 911 with 485 hp and 561 pound-feet of torque. The new AE piece effectively endorses that, saying the mid-range hybrid would follow the program established by the all-wheel drive Cayenne e-Hybrid that produces a combined 455 hp and 516 lb-ft. The 911 would naturally use a flat-six instead of the Cayenne's 3.0-liter V6, and the sports car would be tuned for better sound response and sharper reflexes. AE says fuel economy for this hybrid should be at least 80 eMPG, with emissions of less than 80 grams per kilometer. The current base Carrera is currently rated at a maximum 38.2 mpg in the UK, with minimum emissions of 169 g/km. The hybrid, fitted with a double-clutch gearbox and Porsche's mechanical all-wheel-drive system, could run from a stop to 62 miles per hour in less than four seconds, making it more efficient than a base Carrera and much faster than a Carrera 4S. AE says there remains only "the potential for Porsche to add a second, more powerful hybrid 911," and says its sources claim that's what's "causing the most consternation behind closed doors." This one would be the twin-turbocharged, 700-hp beastie that, as a series production car, would have a hard time not usurping the 540-hp Turbo, 580-hp Turbo S, and 607-hp Turbo S Exclusive. True, the hybrid would be handicapped with a 550-pound battery pack, but the instant acceleration and handling benefits of electric AWD — with no connection between the axles — could provide the final edge over the other three. As such, it makes sense that there'd be a whole lot of debate about a flagship 911 hybrid. On the other hand, such a monster seems like an eventuality in view of Porsche's electrified aspirations, the lessons gained from the 918 Hybrid and the 919 Hybrid Le Mans racer, and the fact that CEO Blume has already spoken. The Stuttgart carmaker expects a sales mix of 25 percent electric, 25 percent hybrid, and 50 percent conventional powertrains by 2025.
