I AM SELLING THIS BEAUTIFUL GTO FOR A FRIEND

I HAVE PERSONALY DRIVEN AND INSPECTED THIS CAR IN MY SHOP AND WILL ANSWER ALL QUESTIONS HONESTLY AND TO THE BEST OF MY KNOWLEDGE

I CAN ASSURE YOU THAT YOU WILL BE HARD PRESSED TO FIND A MORE RARE, SOLID '66 GTO THAN THIS

 ONLY 3 REGISTERED OWNERS

This great car has always resided within 30-miles of INWOOD, WEST VA. This is one of the most solid GTOs' you will ever find and it HAS NOT BEEN RESTORED!! The floors, including trunk and the frame are excellent AND ALL ORIGINAL. All of the moldings and emblems are original. The interior including the carpet, door panels, seats, dash, steering wheel, and console, are all very nice AND ALL ORIGINAL. It is hard to believe it is 47-years old! All of the glass is good; the windows roll-up and down well; all gauges, lights, signals, horn, wipers, heater, and radio work properly. The power convertible top is black and looks nice, although the back window is badly yellowed and needs replacing. The power top goes up and down fine. The current top was installed in the late 70's. About that same time, the paint color was changed from its original Reef Turquoise to Black. Yes, this Black paint is the same from 1978. Although not perfect, it is still very presentable "as is". The bumpers are vintage 1966.

The engine is the original #'s matching code WS, 360 HP, 389 cid that it was "born with". It was rebuilt to stock specs with a .040 overbore. It still has its original 093 heads, distributor, and exhaust manifolds. The carbs, air cleaner and valve covers are ALL ORIGINAL. The 4-speed transmission is correct, but not #'s matching. The original #'s matching transmission comes with the car but it needs to be repaired due to a broken tail shaft in the late 70's. The original shifter is still in place and works fine. The rear differential is original with its 3:55 posi.

The doors, trunk, and hood open and as they should and have excellent gaps; door vent chrome is nice.  The trunk floor has been resprayed and a new mat was installed to freshen it up. The correct jack is still in place. The exhaust is the original style but newer with quiet mufflers as original.  Ralleye I wheels and Coker redlines have been added for a better driving experience. Originally, this beauty had whitewalls and poverty caps, which I do not have. This car starts, runs, drives and stops excellent. Please take note - this great GTO has very few options - No power steering or power brakes. Actually, it steers pretty easily and the brakes (rebuilt) work great. There are no unusual noises or rattles when driving this car. It has 94,834 miles which I have been assured are original. Although, the second owner doesn't recall, it appears there may have been slight damage to the left fender, probably minor.

I would not hesitate to drive this awesome car cross-country. Recently, driven on a 5-hour road trip through the mountains of WV with no issues.

For further inspection, you or a representative may inspect the car on a lift in my shop. Clear title in-hand. PHS docs, original sales invoice, protecto plate, build order sheet, manuals, dated build tags are all in-hand.

TONS OF DOCUMENTATION AND HISTORY

Please note that the photo showing the EUN (Engine Unit Number)  matches the number on the Pro-tecto-Plate verifying that the motor is correct and numbers matching

Junkyard Gem: 1986 Pontiac Sunbird Sedan

Sun, Jun 28 2020

The J-Body platform was a giant seller for GM, staying in production from the first 1981 Chevrolet Cavalier all the way through that final 2005 Pontiac Sunfire. Outside of North America, Opels and Daewoos and Isuzus and Holdens and Vauxhalls and even Toyotas flew the J flag, and better than ten million rolled out of showrooms during that quarter-century. In the United States, Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, Pontiac, Buick, and Cadillac each sold J-Bodies. Of those, the Pontiac Sunbird often had the sportiest image, more cavalier than even the Cavalier Z24. I've documented a discarded Sunbird Turbo in the past, and now here's a bread-and-butter Sunbird sedan from the same era. The Sunbird name began its life in 1976 on the Pontiac-badged version of the rear-wheel-drive Buick Skyhawk, itself based on the Chevy Vega. The first J-Body Pontiacs had J2000 badges, then 2000 badges, then 2000 Sunbird badges, until finally the pure non-2000 Sunbird appeared for the 1985 model year. I remain disappointed that the 2000 name didn't survive into our current century, because we could have had a 2000 Pontiac 2000, or just the "2000 2000" for short. The base engine in the '86 Sunbird was this SOHC 1.8-liter four of Brazilian origin, rated at 84 horsepower. Originally developed by Opel in the late 1970s, this engine family went into cars built all across the sprawling GM empire. 84 horsepower doesn't sound like much— and it wasn't much, even by 1986 standards— but at least the original buyer of this car had the smarts to get the five-speed manual transmission. This car weighed just 2,336 pounds, a good 500 pounds lighter than the current Chevy Sonic, so performance with the manual transmission was tolerable. The '86 Sunbird's interior was much nicer than those in its Cavalier siblings, though nowhere near the Cadillac Cimarron's reading on the Plush-O-Meter. An AM/FM/cassette stereo with auto reverse was serious audio hardware in a cheap car during the middle 1980s, when even a scratchy factory AM-only radio cost the equivalent of several hundred 2020 bucks. The price tag of this car started at $7,495, or about $17,500 in 2020 dollars. The cheapest possible Cavalier sedan went for $6,888 in 1986, but a zero-option base '86 Cavalier would make you think you'd been transported to the Soviet Union every time you slunk into its harsh confines. Pontiac Aztek rises from the ashes of infamy in Firebird Trans Am guise

Thu, Apr 9 2020

What if the Pontiac Aztek, one of the most widely ridiculed vehicles ever built, was reimagined with a little flair from one of the former brand’s more legendary cars? Well, it turns out that someone not only came up with that idea, but followed up on it. And so, we present to you the Pontiac Aztek Firebird Trans Am, uh, trim package? ItÂ’s not real, of course, but it comes from Abimelec Arellano, an Hermosillo, Mexico-based car designer with too much time on his hands who goes by the name Abimelec Design. Arellano redesigned the midsize SUVÂ’s wimpy front fascia to surprising success by simply adding widened fender flares and perhaps modernizing the headlights. He also went all-in embracing the AztekÂ’s abrupt, flattened rear end by removing the rear bumper lip, adding a slightly more aggressive rear spoiler to boot. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. Elsewhere, the dominating and cheap-looking gray plastic under-cladding is gone in favor of body-color panels. Arellano also added some probably larger Pontiac Snowflake wheels with gold accents that really make them pop and play well against the signature Firebird decal dominating the hood. Commenters generally fall into one of two buckets. As one put it, “I never thought the Aztek could look this good.” Others implored Arellano to do a version with a T-top. Or as one Autoblog editor put it, “So it turns out the reason the Aztek was a laughingstock failure is that it didnÂ’t come in a Smokey and the Bandit Edition. Somewhere, a dude who got shouted down in a product-planning meeting years ago is vindicated.” Sold between 2001 and 2005, the Aztek arguably reached the pinnacle of its notoriety as the metaphor for the drab, underachieving life of Walter White in AMCÂ’s meth drama, “Breaking Bad.” It came equipped with a 3.4-liter V6 that made 185 horsepower and sent it through a four-speed automatic to the front wheels, with an all-wheel drive version also available. The Aztek may have the last laugh, especially if it gets a screaming chicken. “The fact it was a controversial design and didnÂ’t sell well will make it an object of curiosity from a historical standpoint many years from now,” McKeel Hagerty, president and CEO of classic-car insurer Hagerty Insurance, told Autoblog back in 2016.

This 1927 Oakland is a minimalist hot rod

Fri, 21 Feb 2014

There are hundreds of American automakers that sprung up during the dawn of the automotive era, only to fold into obscurity or get gobbled up by what would eventually become the Big Four (yes, we're counting AMC here). Oakland is one such company, which was the forbearer for General Motors' Pontiac division. Sold until 1931, you simply don't see Oakland-badged cars anymore. Unless, that is, you know Brian Bent.
Bent drives a 1927 Oakland that still rides on wooden wheels. Its original wooden wheels, from the sound of it. That makes this anachronist and his Oakland the perfect subject for a Petrolicious video. Like many of the cars highlighted by Petrolicious, this old Oakland has had some work done to it, featuring a Pontiac flathead engine that's been pushed forward and a clutch pack built by Bent.
Take a look below for a closer look at this rare and fascinating Oakland.
