True Survivor Time Capsule
8000 Orignal Miles
As an avid car collector, I, along with many others in the hobby, feel that no muscle car collection is complete
without at least one example of the 1964 GTO which is considered to be the first muscle car built.
In November of 2010, I received a phone call from noted Pontiac historian, Jim Mattison. Jim was well aware of my
passion for unrestored cars and had just been contacted by the family of a gentleman who had ordered a new Pontiac,
delivered May 19, 1964, from Community Motors, in Chicago. The family was interested in selling and wanted it to go
to a good home where it would be well cared for. Jim had described the car to me as an 8,000 mile unrestored and
original time capsule 1964 Tri-power GTO. I immediately called the guys at Tri-power Automotive, in
Libertyville, Illinois, Pontiac specialists, and asked them to go take a look at the car for me.
With their first look at the car, their impression was that the car had been restored or at the very least
re-painted. They first opened up the trunk and saw a reproduction trunk mat. While they felt that this was evidence
of a restoration, they lifted the mat to find, to their amazement, that the reproduction was there to protect the
beautiful, original, trunk mat that lay beneath it. They then took out the spare tire to find that it was the
original spare from 1964 and had never been on the ground.
Now, they began to really look at the car even more closely and soon realized that this truly was the “time
capsule” they had come to see. The paint is 100% original and in nearly the same condition as when it rolled off
the line in 1964. The interior is 100% original and still retains that “new car smell.”The complete drive
train is born with #'S MATCHING 100% ORIGINAL!!!!
This would undoubtedly have to be one of the highest optioned 1964 GTO's ever built.
Per the PHS, the 20+ options include:
Push Button Radio
Verba-Phonic Speaker
Console
Wood-grain Style Custom Sports Steering Wheel
Windshield Washer and Dual Wiper Speed
Instrument Panel Pad
Tachometer
Optional Tri-Power 389 4-speed
H. D. Radiator
Optional and very rare breakerless transistor ignition
Ride & Handling Package
Metallic Brakes
Saf-T Track Differential
M21 Close Ratio with 3.90 Axle
I have owned over 50 unrestored cars over the years and this is by far the most original untouched car that I have
ever owned or even seen. Steve Shauger’s team of "Vintage Judges" confirmed my thoughts, when this car was
awarded 2724.49 points out of the possible 2784 points possible, in November of 2013 at the MCACN event, and given
their highest “Award of Legend.”

Junkyard Gem: 2001 Pontiac Bonneville SSEi

Sat, Jun 19 2021

The General's Pontiac Division sold Bonnevilles from 1958 through 2005, which turned out to be well over half of the marque's existence. Named after the Bonneville Salt Flats, some Bonnevilles were huge but pretty quick, others were slow-motion land yachts, and some were nearly indistinguishable from their Buick and Oldsmobile brethren. The final generation, sold for the 2000 through 2005 model years, were among the quickest and most distinctive-looking Bonnevilles ever built, but they arrived in showrooms at a time when the clock was ticking for the division's very survival. Today's Junkyard Gem is one of those cars, an '01 with the hot-rod SSEi package. The Bonneville SSEi first appeared in the 1992 model year, just a year after the Buick Park Avenue Ultra was the first of many GM cars to get the 3.8-liter Buick V6 with an Eaton supercharger bolted on top. Production of the Bonneville SSEi continued through the 2003 model year, after which the GXP version and its Cadillac Northstar V8 took over. The 2001 version of this engine made 240 horsepower, good for plenty of torque-steery fun. Could you get this car with a manual transmission? What do you think? Some cursory research indicates that 1970 was the last model year for a three-pedal Bonneville, and even those cars must be incredibly rare. This one looks to have been in nice shape when it arrived here, with the original manuals still in the glovebox. By 2006, the Bonneville was gone; four years later, Pontiac was gone. Porsche still deciding on one or two new 911 plug-in hybrids

Tue, May 29 2018

Back in March, Porsche CEO Oliver Blume told Autocar that the coming Porsche 911 plug-in hybrid "will be the most powerful 911 we've ever had." That quote portended a 992-series 911 with 700 horsepower or more. A new report in Auto Express, however, suggests Porsche is having energetic debates about just what the 911's hybrid strategy will be, and that the only agreed-upon plug-in hybrid 911 so far is a milder version to sit in the middle of the range. Putting all our rumors in a row, in January, Automobile reported on an electrically-assisted 911 with 485 hp and 561 pound-feet of torque. The new AE piece effectively endorses that, saying the mid-range hybrid would follow the program established by the all-wheel drive Cayenne e-Hybrid that produces a combined 455 hp and 516 lb-ft. The 911 would naturally use a flat-six instead of the Cayenne's 3.0-liter V6, and the sports car would be tuned for better sound response and sharper reflexes. AE says fuel economy for this hybrid should be at least 80 eMPG, with emissions of less than 80 grams per kilometer. The current base Carrera is currently rated at a maximum 38.2 mpg in the UK, with minimum emissions of 169 g/km. The hybrid, fitted with a double-clutch gearbox and Porsche's mechanical all-wheel-drive system, could run from a stop to 62 miles per hour in less than four seconds, making it more efficient than a base Carrera and much faster than a Carrera 4S. AE says there remains only "the potential for Porsche to add a second, more powerful hybrid 911," and says its sources claim that's what's "causing the most consternation behind closed doors." This one would be the twin-turbocharged, 700-hp beastie that, as a series production car, would have a hard time not usurping the 540-hp Turbo, 580-hp Turbo S, and 607-hp Turbo S Exclusive. True, the hybrid would be handicapped with a 550-pound battery pack, but the instant acceleration and handling benefits of electric AWD — with no connection between the axles — could provide the final edge over the other three. As such, it makes sense that there'd be a whole lot of debate about a flagship 911 hybrid. On the other hand, such a monster seems like an eventuality in view of Porsche's electrified aspirations, the lessons gained from the 918 Hybrid and the 919 Hybrid Le Mans racer, and the fact that CEO Blume has already spoken. The Stuttgart carmaker expects a sales mix of 25 percent electric, 25 percent hybrid, and 50 percent conventional powertrains by 2025.

Another Burt Reynolds Trans Am is up for auction

Wed, Jan 18 2017

Fans of Smokey and the Bandit, your car has arrived. This Saturday, January 21, Barrett-Jackson will auction a 1977 Pontiac Trans Am clone that, while not originally in the movie, was owned and signed by the Bandit himself, Burt Reynolds. Not only that, but it packs many modifications that should make this Pontiac drive the way we all imagined it did. This is a Trans Am clone, not an original. The car was built by Nebraska company Restore A Muscle Car, and started life as a lowly Firebird Formula. However, the company brought it up to Trans Am grade and beyond. Under the hood is a fuel-injected 8.2-liter V8 from Butler Performance that Restore A Muscle Car says produces 600 horsepower. Coupled to the big V8 is a Tremec five-speed manual transmission. There's even Hurst line-lock on-board, so this Trans Am should be perfect for on-demand burnouts. The car also comes with QA1 coil-over suspension, so it should corner better than the original, too. The outside looks roughly like a stock Trans Am, but it now has 18-inch wheels styled after those from the movie car, and the shaker scoop says "8.2" on each side. View 5 Photos In 2014, a 1977 Trans Am owned by Reynolds sold for a whopping $450,000. That car wasn't an actual movie car either, and lacked the modifications of this one. However, it was used as a promotional car and was given to Reynolds, so it did have some history with the film. This upgraded car is listed in the Barrett-Jackson catalog as "no reserve," so it's going home with a new owner on Saturday, regardless of price. Related Video:
