In 2002 there was no car like this one, period. No other car (save the 1995 ZR1) was faster, and no other handled like it (it out performed any Ferrari of the period). This immaculate 2002 Pontiac Trans Am started life as a stock WS6. With factory approval (to maintain the factory warranty at the time), modifications were performed by the authorized factory technicians at the dealership, Sheehan Pontiac. Virtually every aspect of the car has been modified and the Pontiac was transformed into the "Slingshot", a trademarked conversion.
This is a "one of one" conversion and the car was originally sold for over $70,000 to a private collector where it remained since new... until now.
This Pontiac is a "Supercar" in every respect. The original engine of 330 HP has been cranked up to 400HP++. The suspension was modified beyond "Supercar" standards, and the exterior and interior of the car was up-graded to include exotic Italian leathers. The wheels and tires were up-graded, including the installation of Ferrari racing wheels. Every modification was designed to improve performance, reduce weight or enhance appearances. All of the modifications can not listed here, but they are carefully documented in a special Sheehan presentation binder.
When completed, the car was named the "Slingshot". All of the WS6 badging was eliminated and replaced with the Slingshot emblems. Only one "Slingshot" was completed before GM finally announced the end of the Pontiac brand altogether.
This car is the ultimate collector piece as it will never bee seen again.

Aficionauto sits down with The Hoff and KITT

Fri, 10 Oct 2014

The latest video from The Aficionauto is the perfect palate cleanser for Knight Rider fans after finding out that Justin Bieber is the voice of KITT in an upcoming film. Host Christopher Rutkowski says that the Knight Industries Two Thousand is one of the most requested vehicles to appear on the series and for good reason - Michael Knight's Pontiac Trans-Am is among the most famous cars to ever appear on television.
While the video isn't able to showcase one of the original KITTs from the series, it does get star David Hasselhoff to drive his personal replica and talk about the lasting legacy of the show. The highlight here might be seeing The Hoff back behind the wheel in the open desert basically recreating Knight Rider's opening sequence.
With all of its flashing lights and gizmos, you can probably make the argument that KITT is pretty cheesy, and the show itself was never exactly a pillar of high-quality drama on television. Despite that, the series still provides a ton of good-natured fun, and The Hoff's continued enthusiasm for it is pretty infectious. Check out The Aficionauto video to take another ride with Knight Rider.

Wanted: 1967 Pontiac GTO for a special Father's Day

Thu, 07 Jun 2012

Jim Sharp of Elkhorn, Wisconsin needs a red 1967 Pontiac GTO to make his dad's Father's Day, possibly his last one, something extra special.
Back in the '60s, Jim's dad, Ken, drove a cherry red 1967 GTO to California for a job. He met a girl, got married and decided his wife's 1965 Ford Mustang was more fuel efficient than the Goat and the GTO was sold. As the story almost always goes, Ken has had seller's regret ever since.
Jim always meant to find a 1967 GTO and, with his dad's help, restore it. But life got in the way, time slipped by and Ken was recently diagnosed with esophageal cancer and given about three months to live.

GM recalling 8.4M cars, 8.2M related to ignition problems

Mon, 30 Jun 2014

General Motors today announced a truly massive recall covering some 8.4 million vehicles in North America. Most significantly, 8.2 million examples of the affected vehicles are being called back due to "unintended ignition key rotation," though GM spokesperson Alan Adler tells Autoblog that this issue is not like the infamous Chevy Cobalt ignition switch fiasco.
For the sake of perspective, translated to US population, this total recall figure would equal a car for each resident of New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Montana, Delaware, South Dakota, Alaska, North Dakota, the District of Columbia, Vermont and Wyoming. Combined. Here's how it all breaks down:
7,610,862 vehicles in North America being recalled for unintended ignition key rotation. 6,805,679 are in the United States.
