1978 pontiac firebird. car is a project car and is not a numbers matching car, it has a 350 chevy engine and a th350 transmission. engine fires right up and sounds like it has a larger than stock camshaft. engine runs strong and sounds great but has some trouble idleing in gear i think it needs some more tuning between timing and the carbureator. it has a newer edelbrock 750cfm carb on top of an edelbrock performer manifold. brand new flowtech headers just intalled. no exhaust other than headers car is very loud. transmission is a th350 b and m street and strip transmission, its a used trans and i removed it from a camaro i had afew years ago.it shifts firm and hard and is an expensive transmission if you go buy one. i believe they are around 900 new. transmission leaks when car is sitting i do not know where from havent had time to look. car has traction bars and a posi traction 10 bolt rear end. i replaced the fuel tank with one from a 79 trans am. the car does run move and stop and will drive onto a trailer. due to open headers and transmission leak car needs to be trailered. if you bid on the car please make arrangments to have car shipped or pick it up yourself. ok now on to the interior. interior is in pretty good shape for the year. it is missing the headliner and dash is cracked. i have pictures on here. seats and cosole are descent. tachometer works but dont think any of the other guages do. hurst hatch ttops are in great shape and havent seen them leak since ive owned the car. but i do store car inside.body and underside of car are in good shape for the year. i have included some under car pictures as well has rust through in one small area of trunk by right rear quarter panel. rear of car has some rust and bondo. rear subframe has some rust but is not rusted out by any means. all leaf spring mounts appear to be solid. floor pans are good and solid. rear tailpan has quite abit of rust but thats very common on these cars. ive had afew of these and this is the most solid one ive seen or had the pleasure to own.alos included with the auction is another set of wheels and tires for the car and i also have the louvers for the rear window. car has a clear illinois title. if you have questions feel free to ask and ill answer as best i can.car is located in laura, illinois 61451 it is for sale locally and i reserve the right to end auction at any time. pick up and payment due within 7 days of auction close, shipping is the buyers responsablilty. car is sold as is where is no warranty expressed or implied. car is a project. please look at the pictures and bid to win thanks for looking.

GM reintroduces Tripower name in the worst way possible
Wed, Aug 1 2018The story of General Motors' use of the Tripower moniker begins way back in 1957, when Semon E. "Bunkie" Knudsen, then General Manager of GM's Pontiac division, directed his engineers to inject more performance into his brand's line of V8-powered automobiles. Fuel injection was an option, but hot rodders flocked instead to Tri-Power (marketed way back when with a hyphen), which grafted a trio of two-barrel Rochester carburetors onto a single intake manifold. A legend was born. And that legend was born of performance. At idle and when full power wasn't required, Pontiac's Tri-Power system used just the middle carburetor, which helped make the setup easier to tune. Depending on the year and model, either a vacuum system or a mechanical linkage opened up the two outer carbs, thereby switching from two barrels to six, and allowing the engine to take in more fuel and air. And it was an easy marketing win – six barrels is better than four barrels, right? Because performance! So, when news filtered in that GM has resurrected the Tripower name, those of us who grew up attending classic car shows and wrenching on old Pontiacs did a double-take. And then we all collectively sighed. Turns out that today's Tripower refers to a trio of fuel-saving measures that include cylinder deactivation, active thermal management, and intake valve lift control, according to Automotive News. And, at least for now, it applies to GM's line of fullsize trucks powered by a 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine. We're all for saving fuel whenever possible. And we have zero say in how any automaker chooses to market its products and technologies. But, we'll offer our two cents anyway: Relaunching a storied name from the past is fine. Relaunching a storied name from the past while completely overlooking the reasons the name got famous in the first place is only going to irritate the people who remember the name in the first place. Couldn't they just call this new technology package something else? Junkyard Gem: 1991 Pontiac 6000 LE
Sat, Dec 2 2017Sibling to the Chevrolet Celebrity and Oldsmobile Cutlass Ciera, the Pontiac 6000 sold pretty well during the early-to-middle 1980s, but had been relegated to the dealership bargain bin and fleet-car cul-de-sac by the time of Operation Desert Shield. Here's a final-year-of-manufacture 6000 LE that I photographed in an Arizona self-service wrecking yard. This car was sold new in Arizona, and it will be crushed in the same state, 26 years later. The LE was the cheapest trim level for the 6000 in 1991, but the original purchaser of this car sprang for a few options. For example, instead of the utterly miserable 2.5-liter Iron Duke four-cylinder, this car packs the 3.1-liter V6. That meant 140 horsepower instead of 110, plus an engine note more like a vacuum cleaner sucking up a spaghetti spill than an ailing blender chewing on walnuts. AM, FM, and cassette. Not only that, but the auto-reverse feature meant that your mixtape cassette wouldn't stop right in the middle of your favorite Roxette tune. This content is hosted by a third party. Even the wretched Daewoo-built Pontiac LeMans gets more screen time than the forgotten 6000 in this 1991 TV ad featuring the voice of Captain Picard. Florida man runs down bikers in traffic
Tue, May 31 2016A Florida biker and his passenger got a nasty surprise when a road rage incident turned ugly on Monday. According to WTSP, Joe Calderazzo was returning from a Veterans Memorial Day motorcycle rally around 5:30 pm with a group of fellow riders. During their ride, the group got entangled with an overly aggressive driver in a Pontiac. Abe Garcia of Tampa watched the silver Pontiac attempt to run the pack of bikers off the road, which started the altercation. The bikers caught up to the Pontiac in stopped traffic, and a shouting match ensued between the bikers and the Pontiac driver. At this point, Garcia pulled out his phone and started recording. The exchange escalated, and suddenly the Pontiac driver floored it, turned hard to the right, and ran over Calderazzo's Harley. The Pontiac mangled the Harley and knocked Calderazzo and his passenger to the ground. The Pontiac then fled the scene. WTSP spoke to Calderazzo as he was on his way to the hospital. "I thought the guy was trying to kill us obviously," said Calderazzo. "You know you don't know what's going through your mind. Is he going to put the car in reverse? Is he going to turn around? Is he going to stop and pull out a gun? You don't know what's going on." The Pontiac driver, a serial traffic offender named Robert Paul Vance, was picked up by police soon after the incident. He is charged with hit-and-run, a moving traffic violation, and aggravated battery.
