1972 Pontiac Firebird Formula 400, this is a solid mostly original car showing a correct 81717 miles, I have the PHS, Build Sheet & Protectoplate. I am the 5th owner having it since 2007, the previous owner had it since 1984. Car came from Utah when I purchased it in 2007, originally sold new in Oregon state. Solid western car.

Car has all its original body panels except for the front valance panel. Original quarter panels, wheel houses, tail panel, floors, frame rails, fenders, doors, etc. Paint condition is poor, paint is about 30 years old, previous owner says it was painted before he bought it, so sometime in the early 1980s, they painted over the original Silver paint, front right fender has a small rust hole, doors have dings. Trunk floor has some surface rust on it but is solid.

The 400 engine is the original WK code with VIN number stamped in the block K151, Engine has a recent rebuilt and runs excellent, also has its original 7K3 heads K091 & K261, intake 485912 K171, carburetor 7042263 WF 3091, alternator 37amp 1100927, air cleaner. Distributor is not the original but a correct number 1112121 dated 1J27. Transmission is the original M22 Close Ratio Muncie Rock Crusher with VIN Number stamped in case. Rear axle is the original 10bolt open, posi was not originally ordered on this car. The original Hurst Shifter has been rebuilt and has all the correct linkage including the reverse lockout, the clutch rod is an NOS piece. Transmission also has a new clutch & pressure plate, etc. New 4 core radiator but the original single core radiator is included.

Interior has been reupholstered in the correct Black Deluxe, new carpet & headliner. Door panels, kick panels, rear side panels and seatbelts are the originals, dash pad is also the original one, I installed the factory am/fm radio and 8-track, both do not work, car originally came with a console but was in poor shape so I put 8-track on the factory pedestal. I like the no console look. The dash has a new wiring harness from M&H Wiring. All the gauges work except for the clock. The Formula steering wheel is the thick Padded reproduction.

The front subframe has been restored with a complete bushing kit, springs are the originals, front sway bar was replaced with a 1 1/4 inch bar from a 71 Trans Am. All new front brakes with new lines & hoses etc. Also included is the 7/8 rear sway bar from the same Trans Am. Exhaust is new and is from Gardner Exhaust, dual pipes with single crossflow muffler, correct chrome exhaust tips. Torq Thrust wheels are 15x7 and tires are 235/60/15. Original 14x7 Rally II wheels were not on car when I bought it. Someone added the rear spoiler years ago, not me, but I did get the correct early 70-72 end caps for it.

Data Plate info:

72  22387   N    2111107  BDY

TR   226             14 14    PNT

01B   A51  W66

The production numbers I have are that 1,082 400 4spd Formulas were built, I remember that someone on the Performance Years Forum site estimated that of the 1,082 only 199 had the optional M22 4spd.

Additional parts included are a 1972 Shop Manual, original spare tire jack, new rear KYB Shocks, new rear brake pads, the original steering wheel, original front sway bar & the 7/8 rear bar, the original radiator, the original lower side moldings.

Car is sold as is with no warranty of any kind, I have a transferable registration in my name, titles were not used in NY until about 1973 so car is transferable by the registration. Car is located in Poughkeepsie, New York, about an hour north of New York City. Thanks.

GM isn't liable for punitive damages in ignition switch cases

Wed, Nov 20 2019

NEW YORK — A federal appeals court said General Motors is not liable for punitive damages over accidents that occurred after its 2009 bankruptcy and involved vehicles it produced earlier, including vehicles with faulty ignition switches. The 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan said on Tuesday that the automaker did not agree to contractually assume liability for punitive damages as part of its federally-backed Chapter 11 reorganization. GM filed for bankruptcy in June 2009, and its best assets were transferred to a new Detroit-based company with the same name. The other assets and many liabilities stayed with "Old GM," which is also known as Motors Liquidation Co. Tuesday's 3-0 decision may help GM reduce its ultimate exposure in nationwide litigation over defective ignition switches in several Chevrolet, Pontiac and Saturn models. It is also a defeat for drivers involved in post-bankruptcy accidents, including those who collided with older GM vehicles driven by others, as well as their law firms. The ignition switch defect could cause engine stalls and keep airbags from deploying, and has been linked to 124 deaths. A lawyer for the drivers and their law firms did not immediately respond to requests for comment. GM had no comment. Circuit Judge Dennis Jacobs said GM's agreement to acquire assets "free and clear" of most liabilities excused it from punitive damages claims for Old GM's conduct. He also noted that the judge who oversaw the bankruptcy concluded that the new company could not be liable for claims that the "deeply insolvent" Old GM would never have paid. The decision upheld a May 2018 ruling by U.S. District Judge Jesse Furman in Manhattan, who oversees the ignition switch litigation. Drivers have sought a variety of damages in that litigation, including for declining resale values. GM has recalled more than 2.6 million vehicles since 2014 over ignition switch problems. It has also paid more than $2.6 billion in related penalties and settlements, including $900 million to settle a U.S. Department of Justice criminal case. The case is In re: Motors Liquidation Co, 2nd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, No. 18-1940. Government/Legal Chevrolet Pontiac Saturn Safety gm ignition switch

David Hasselhoff's own KITT replica up for auction

Tue, 08 Apr 2014

Depending on when and where you grew up, the name David Hasselhoff likely conjures up images of Knight Rider, Baywatch, pop singer, or possibly a washed-up TV actor, but one thing that can never be taken away from The Hoff is his connection to one of the greatest automotive icons in pop culture. The Knight Industries Two Thousand, usually shortened to simply KITT, was the real star of Knight Rider for many fans. Based on a Pontiac Firebird Trans Am, the car combined snarky quips for comedy relief and stunts to provide much of the show's actions. Now, Julien's Auctions is selling Hasselhoff's own replica as part of a larger sale of the actor's personal memorabilia collection.
This recreation is based on a 1986 Firebird and comes with all of the tech on the inside that now seems hilariously outdated, like the yoke steering wheel and plethora of buttons. The interior also thoughtfully includes a voice box with over 4,000 sound clips from the show. With a 5.0-liter V8 and an automatic transmission, performance is likely adequate and period correct. According to the listing, this car was created by fans and given to the Hoff. Sadly, the replica doesn't convert to Super Pursuit Mode like KITT could in later seasons, and we most associate KITT with conventional front-hinged doors to go with the power t-tops and ejector seats.
Bidding currently sits $27,500 with eight bids, since starting at $15,000. Julien's predicts it will sell for between $30,000 and $50,000. If there is some nostalgia for KITT in your heart, there is still plenty of time to bid.

Camaro-based Trans Am SE Bandit Edition borrows Burt Reynolds

Tue, Mar 29 2016

For some reason, modifying modern Chevrolet Camaros into the lurching, reincarnated shells of the Pontiac brand is still a thing. If you're the perverse sort that likes this kind of thing, you should check out the latest product from the Trans Am Depot, which comes complete with an endorsement from the star of Smokey and the Bandit, Burt Reynolds. Yes, the new Trans Am SE Bandit Edition has been signed and endorsed by the man himself, but what's important here is not the signature on the dash, it's the bits of Camaro that have been modified. Aesthetically, that means a Bandit-and-Frog-approved set of T-tops, a front-opening hood with a very large, prominent shaker scoop, an equally large and prominent screaming chicken, and Trans Am-inspired front and rear fascias. And naturally, Burt Reynolds' signature adorns the dash. There are plenty of reminders in the cabin about this car's Hollywood inspiration, too. Bandit decals can be found on the front headrests and center console lid, there are chicken wings on the Camaro-spec plastic door inserts, and the black-and-tan color scheme matches nicely with the exterior look. And power? Well, Sheriff Buford T. Justice would have a lot more trouble keeping up with this Trans Am than he did with the original. The 7.4-liter LSX V8 has been paired with a 2.9-liter supercharger which is good for 840 horsepower. It's fast and loud, and even if you can't get behind the look (we can't), at least this Camaro-in-Trans Am's clothing can impress with its performance. The Bandit Edition is limited to just 77 units with prices starting around $115,000. You can check out the official video from Trans Am Depot, which comes with a decent helping of Burt Reynolds, up top. Related Video:
