This is a great project that I'm putting up for auction but make no mistake it is a project. Up for Auction is a 1970 1/2  Pontiac Trans Am with Ram Air III 400 CID engine. This is a complete numbers matching original. Along with the Trans Am comes a donor car which is also a 1970 Firebird. I have owned this pair for about 6 years and intended to do a complete restore of the Trans Am. Unfortunately I have run out of time and am offering this opportunity to the highest bidder. If you have been watching the value of these cars rise then you know just how profitable a project like this can be. Read on for the details.

This car needs a full restoration most body panels are rusty and the trunk floor is rusted through also.  The doors, front fenders, rear quarters and even the roof have rusted through and will need to be replaced. The floor pan seems to have survived for some reason which I guess is a plus. The hood is not rusted through and I think can be saved but it will need to be stripped and some straightening will be required. The inner front fenders and firewall also seem to be solid. The interior is also rough but it is complete. The seats are good cores but will need to be restored as will all the fabrics like the carpet and head liner etc.
The 1970 base firebird donor car has a complete interior and the body also has some rust and bond but keep reading as I have new body panels included in the auction listed below. The donor car has a salvaged title and can only be used for parts. The Trans Am has a clear Title There is only a partial engine in the donor car not that it matters much since you wouldn't want to use that in the Trans Am.

THE GOOD STUFF
Beside the donor car all the parts I have collected over the past 6 years to get prepared for the restoration will also be included in the auction. Here is a partial list of parts both used and NOS that are included.

OTHER GOOD NEWS - The engine is a 400 CID RamAir III numbers matching with numbers matching card, distributer, exhaust manifolds etc. etc. The engine is supposed to be a good running engine but I can't vouch for it since I have not had it running. I would recommend that the carb be rebuilt at the very least and you will certainly want to remove it and have it inspected to see what it may need.  It also has a good set of factory Ralley wheels with new tires. The transmission is the original transmission and numbers matching for the car. All receipts for everything that comes with the cars will be included with the purchase.

Let's be honest, I have about $17,000 invested in this project and have done a great deal of work procuring all the parts I have and the donor car. Once completed it is not unreasonable to realize a substantial increase in value 3-4 times the investment.

Please DO NOT BID UNLESS YOU HAVE THE MEANS TO COMPLETE THE DEAL. Don't forget that your bid is a binding contract. Keep in mind that you will have to trailer these cars and neither is drivable right now so to ship them will be a significant undertaking. I will help all I can to load things up on your truck or trailer but ultimately the shipping is your responsibility.

As you can imagine I am not able to offer any guarantee. As the first line of this description indicates this is a project. I will require a $500 deposit with Paypal within 24 hours of the auction close and the balance in certified funds within 5 additional days of the auction close. You should plan to pick up everything within 20 days unless other arrangements have been made.

Please ask all your questions well before the end of the auction. Also give me a little time to respond since I can't monitor my Ebay account all day.

I reserve the right to end the auction early since it is also listed locally.

Fiero-based Zimmer Quicksilver was objectively terrible, but we'd totally drive it

Wed, Jan 19 2022

Now here's something you don't see everyday. It's listed in our classified ads as a 1986 Pontiac Fiero, but as you can see, that description is a bit misleading. In fact, it's a Zimmer Quicksilver, which was indeed built atop the guts of a mid-engine Fiero coupe but was heavily modified by the Zimmer Motorcars Corporation at a facility in Pompano Beach, Florida. And the one you see here actually seems to be a pretty decent deal for a highly unusual car. We're not sure what was a more popular starting point for kit and custom cars in the 1980s and 1990s, but it would have to be either the Fiero or the vintage air-cooled Volkswagen Beetle. Fiero-based machines usually mimicked the design direction of any number of highly desirable Italian stallions, most commonly, we'd guess, the Lamborghini Countach. The Quicksilver is an altogether different animal, with over a foot of extra wheelbase added in front of the A-pillar to make for a dramatic, long and low silhouette that somehow still only has barely enough room for two passengers in its leather- and wood-lined interior. A stock 2.8-liter V6 engine from General Motors is mated to a three-speed automatic transmission that sends 140 horsepower and 170 pound-feet of torque to the rear wheels. Period road tests found the 0-60 run took a little over 10 seconds, which is terrible today but wasn't all that bad for the mid '80s. Best we can tell, only around 170 Quicksilvers were made between 1984 and 1988, which are, not coincidentally, the same years that Pontiac produced the Fiero. The 1986 Zimmer Quicksilver you see here is priced at $18,495 and shows well under 30,000 miles on the odometer. There aren't a lot of Zimmer Quicksilvers currently for sale for us to compare, but the ones we did find that had sold within the last few years suggest a little under $20,000 is a reasonable asking price. It could be a fun and offbeat addition to the garage, and if nothing else, you're not likely to see another one at your local car show. Related video: This content is hosted by a third party. Enter now to win this impeccably restored 1969 Pontiac GTO

Wed, Feb 16 2022

Autoblog may receive a share from purchases made via links on this page. Pricing and availability are subject to change. No donation or payment necessary to enter or win this sweepstakes. See official rules on Omaze.  Normally when we post about Omaze, it is about some kind of incredible car sweepstakes. Today, well, to be honest, it is more of the same, but in the case of this tastefully done 1969 Pontiac GTO, we don’t even care if you head over to the sweepstakes page to enter, just do it for the photos. ThatÂ’s right. As a self-described automotive photography snob myself, I have to say that the photos of this GTO are far and away the best IÂ’ve ever seen on Omaze. And while youÂ’re over there, might as well enter the drawing. Who doesnÂ’t want that lean, green, muscle machine in their driveway? IÂ’m more of a fastback Mustang guy, and even I was drooling over that GTO.  Win a Restored 1969 Pontiac GTO - Enter at Omaze Here are the specs of the restored 1969 Pontiac GTO in question, according to Omaze: Maximum Seating: 5 Engine: 461 ci fuel-injected V8 Transmission: Tremec TKO600 5-speed manual Drivetrain: RWD  Exterior Color: Verdero Green Interior Color: Black Maximum Horsepower: 575 hp Maximum Torque: 620 lb-ft Approximate Retail Value: $100,000  Cash Alt: $75,000 Special Features: Butler Performance-built EFI 461, Fast EFI v2.1, 3.73 Gears with Eaton Posi Traction, Wilwood 6-piston brakes with hydroboost, Ridetech Coilovers and muscle bars, Chassis Works billet drop spindles, staggered 18” Budnik billet wheels, Budnik steering wheel IÂ’m not the only one on the Autoblog staff who thinks this restoration is worthy of a little praise. News Editor Joel Stocksdale picked it above all the other current Omaze offerings for our holiday staff picks post. HereÂ’s what he had to say: “There are an awful lot of ways to build a restomod. And a lot of those ways can be boring or tasteless. This one is neither. This is a seriously classy Pontiac GTO. Under the hood is a 461 cu. in. V8 from Butler Performance that's based on an actual Pontiac V8, not just another Chevy engine. The whole thing is subtle with a low-key metallic green and clean gray wheels. There isn't any overly flashy chrome or decals. And the interior is the same with just an upgraded steering wheel, shifter and pedals in an otherwise stock cabin. Oh, and it has a manual.

How to turn a Pontiac Fiero into a trackday car

Fri, 17 Oct 2014

Imagine hitting the track in a mid-engine, rear-wheel drive sports coupe that's affordable and has pretty good parts availability. It might sound like a pipe dream, but it's actually quite possible, if you're willing to think a little outside the box. The Pontiac Fiero is out there just waiting for a little work to turn it into a competent racing machine.
Think about it for a second. Of course, we would all like to be snaking through the curves in something exotic, but what happens when you crash or something breaks? The bills are going to mount up quickly. However, if you ball up a Fiero at the track, as long as you're not hurt, then it's not a huge tragedy.
That's basically the story of Steven Snyder in a new video from Drive starring Matt Farah. Snyder wanted to go to the track cheaply and ended up with an awesome little Fiero with a huge wing and a claimed 220 horsepower at the wheels thanks to a V6 from a Chevrolet Lumina. Check out the video to see how this pint-size Pontiac performs.
