1969 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am convertible clone

I am selling my 1969 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am convertible clone.  We have owned this car for over 8 years and have enjoyed driving it on weekends.  This car always gets thumbs up when driving around town. I have put it in a couple of local shows and won best in show.  VIN shows it as a 1969 Firebird that came out of Pontiac's Norwood, Ohio plant.  It was shipped to Charlie Kittle Pontiac in Memphis, Tennessee on July 13, 1969.  I have a set of PHS documents that I can email to anyone who would like to see them.  My wife and I are building a new house and the sale of this car go towards that effort.

Please read the description thoroughly and I will try to walk you through the condition, etc.
This car was previously posted here a few months ago. I have made several updates since then.

Updates Include:
1.  New period correct deluxe wood steering wheel with PMD horn cap (disregard other wheels in photos)
2.  Horn has been fixed
3.  Turn signal canceling cam has been fixed
4.  Windshield washer pump has been fixed correct washer bottle added
5.  Correct black PMD center caps and black lug nuts have been added
6.  Front driver's seat has all new foam and springs
7.  High speed setting on A/C fan has been fixed (fuse)
8.  A/C has been charged and is blowing cold air
9.  Small dime sized hole in trunk was patched and trunk was repainted in correct splatter.

Exterior:  Paint is in good shape, hood is fiberglass with Trans Am stripes that are painted on these are NOT decals.  The hood scoops are not functional but are cut out. It has exterior air extractors on the front quarter panels (these are non-functional).  I have included a photo of two or three very small rust bubbles about the size of your pinky fingernail on the lower area of drivers side door. All exterior lights work and top (dark blue) is nearly brand new, has working power antenna.  I have only had the top up 3 or 4 times in 8 years, it is electric and works perfectly, rear window is plastic. Chrome is in good shape as are the Rally II wheel set that have the correct black PMD center caps, black lug nuts and deep dish chrome rings.  Tires all have good tread. Small oil drip which is common for cars of this age.  Working hood tach with "Pontiac" emblazened on face which lights up.  All glass is good with no cracks, floors and all metal under the back seat is in good shape with no rust.  Other then the rust mentioned above I cannot see any other rust on the metal of this car.

Interior:  No tears in seats or carpets, has blue Firebird floor mat set, dash is good and not cracked, burlwood dash and center console.  Interior courtesy lights work, it has a new glovebox and all new seat cushions and springs for the driver's side front seat.  Emergency brake works, high beams work glove box and center console all open and close as they should.  This car has the correct deluxe wood wheel with "PMD" horn cap, the horn and turn signals/flashers all work perfectly. (Disregard photos showing other steering wheels I left those in to show interior photos.) I have an Audiosound aftermarket AM/FM cassette player with Mp3 connection that fits in the hole where the existing AM radio used to be. This car has tilt wheel with working cigarette lighter. Seatbelts in the front appear to be original rear seat belts were installed by me.  Working aftermarket oil pressure gauge and temperature gauge as shown in the photos. Seats all slide and headrests work as they should. Speedometer and odometer both work.  Spare tire and spare tire cover along with trunk liner are all included.

Engine/Transmission:  I have owned 6 Trans Ams and have not been real familiar with engine types beyond how many cubic inches it has.  This car came to me badged as a 428, the engine block numbers are as follows and are in the photo section as well.  (0739793 YH) VIN # on block does not match VIN number on the dash.  This car is an automatic Turbo Hydromatic 350 which shifts and drives fine. We drive it almost every weekend.  It has R-12 factory air system which has been charged and is blowing cold air. It has an oversized aluminum radiator with two electric cooling fans.  Temp rises if you sit in traffic for a long time but doesn't go above 200.  Car runs at about 165-175 degrees around town. This engine is very reliable and has never left me stranded it always starts and always runs.  It has a good sounding exhaust with aluminum headers, no holes or exhaust leaks.  Engine has a 4 barrel Edlebrock carburetor and is very clean under the hood.  Odometer says 59,304 not sure if that is correct but odometer does work.  The car is fast and accelerates nicely. If you look at the underside of the car you can see it that this car has a good clean underside with front disc brakes rear drum brakes.  This car was gone through about 9 years ago and looks very clean under the hood and the underside in general.  Fuel tank is clean and had a new sending unit installed about a year ago.  It has a 10 bolt main

Payment must be in the form of a cashiers check, money order or cash. In the case of a cashiers check it must clear my bank before I will release the car.  I have a clean title in my hand.  Please let the auction run its course before asking what I would take for the car. I have 100% feedback and I am honest, I hope you are as well.  The car is for sale locally and I reserve the right to pull this ad if it sells.  These (clones) are getting harder to find I searched for a while before I found this one.

If you would like additional photos of a particular area please message me through eBay and I will do my best to get them to you.  I also have a Dropbox account that has additional photos and video. Please message me through eBay for the website if you would like to see those.

NOTE: Some older photos show the car without a hood tach, with red wheel caps and Formula steering wheel.  It currently has a functioning hood tach, correct black PMD wheel caps and a period correct deluxe wood wheel (the blue one with the PMD center cap).

Burt Reynolds Smokey and the Bandit Trans Am sells for $450k

Mon, Dec 15 2014

Apparently, there's still a lot of love out there for by Burt Reynolds and his famous role in Smokey and the Bandit – or at least for his car. As you might remember, Autoblog reported on the auction of the 1977 Pontiac Trans Am a few week ago. At the time, the movie star's car was already well past its $80,000 top estimate, and bidding only shot up from there for a final price of $450,000. That seems like a lot of money for a Trans Am that never actually appears in Smokey and the Bandit. According to the listing, the car was used to promote the film and was given to Reynolds afterward with his name on the title as proof of ownership. The Trans Am looks practically identical to the one in the movie with black paint, the gold firebird on the hood and Bandit name on the driver's door. This one packs a 400-cubic-inch (6.6-liter) V8 with a 4-barrel carburetor under the hood, an automatic transmission and a plaque inside the door that proclaims "1977 Pontiac Trans Am Owned By Burt Reynolds." The wedding stagecoach based on an International Harvester Scout we mentioned in the earlier story also beat its top estimate of $20,000. It went for $34,375, according to the auction house's website, and in total the sale raised about $2.5 million. Scroll down to read the full announcement from Julien's Auctions. LEGENDARY STAR BURT REYNOLDS PROVES TO BE AS ICONIC AS HIS AUCTION RESULTS "Smokey and the Bandit" Trans Am Sells for $450,000 Career Memorabilia including Awards, Personal Items and Film Worn Costumes along with Vast Art Collection from Reynolds Museum Caliber Private Collection Featured at Julien's Auctions This Week Brings in $2.5 million Las Vegas, Nevada – (December 15, 2014) – Julien's Auctions, the auction house to the stars concluded a whirlwind two-day auction of The Collection of Award Winning Actor Burt Reynolds. The exciting auction event featuring personal effects, career memorabilia, and a museum-caliber fine art collection took place at the Palms Casino Resort Thursday and Friday with bidders from around the world bidding high and bidding often. Burt Reynolds, best known as a leading film star, has had a storied career both on the big and small screen. Aside from his award winning portrayals of some of the world's most iconic characters in film and television, Reynolds is also a businessman who has owned a football team, a dinner theatre, a working ranch and even a museum.

Even Ferrari swept up in latest Takata recall expansion

Fri, May 27 2016

The scope of Takata's deadly airbag problems continues to widen. Eight manufacturers announced recalls Friday that affect more than 12 million vehicles, according to documents filed with federal regulators. The automakers include Honda, which is recalling 4.5 million units, Fiat Chrysler with 4.3 million, Toyota with 1.65 million, and Subaru, which is recalling almost 400,000. Some of these cars include the Saab 9-2x and Pontiac Vibe that Toyota and Subaru made for General Motors. Mazda will recall 730,000 vehicles and Nissan has 400,000 affected units. The smallest numbers were posted by Mitsubishi, with 38,000 Lancers manufactured from 2006 to 2007, and as a noteworthy high-end manufacturer, Ferrari is calling back 2,800 vehicles. These are all US-market cars. Beyond America, the Japanese Transport Ministry has announced seven million additional vehicles will be recalled, which means 19.6 million vehicles across the globe are affected by recalls announced. The defects have been traced to an insufficiently manufactured airbag inflator, which lacks a drying agent that would prevent the inflators from deteriorating over time. Thirteen deaths have been linked to the faulty airbags, which have become unstable and are prone to exploding and showering vehicle occupants with lethal amounts of metal shrapnel. A private equity firm, KKR & Co., has been named in a possible buyout of the struggling Takata. Junkyard Gem: 2003 Pontiac Grand Am GT 30th Anniversary Edition

Mon, May 29 2023

With the era of the 1960s-style muscle car ended by the ever-more-stringent emissions regulations, insurance costs and higher gasoline prices of the early 1970s, GM's Pontiac Division was ready with a lineup of flash-enhanced machines packed with (alleged) European-style performance and styling. Three of them were based on the midsize A Platform for 1973: the LeMans, the Grand Prix and the brand-new Grand Am. The 1973 Grand Am was cheaper than the luxed-up Grand Prix, but still had a BMW-ish interior and wild exterior styling; sales weren't great, but the 30th anniversary of this car seemed sufficiently momentous for Pontiac to create a special-edition package for its soon-to-be-axed successor. Here's one of these rare machines, spotted recently in a Denver car graveyard. The original rear-wheel-drive Grand Am was built for the 1973-1975 and 1978-1980 model years, but its similarity to the much cheaper LeMans kept sales numbers unimpressive. When the Grand Am name was revived for a Pontiac-badged compact on the front-drive N Platform in the 1985 model year, however, it became a big seller right away and stayed that way into our current century. The N-Body Grand Am was built through 2005, with platform updates for the 1992 and 1999 model years. Along the way, it was sibling to such cars as the Oldsmobile Calais, Buick Somerset, Chevrolet Beretta and Oldsmobile Alero. By 2003, though, the ground was shifting under Pontiac's feet. The iconic Firebird had been discontinued the previous year, and even the Grand Prix's days were officially numbered. Oldsmobile would be gone after 2004, and the entire Pontiac vehicle lineup would be shaken up soon after. The last year for the Grand Am (and the Sunfire) would be 2005, with the G6 taking its place. With all that going on, why not offer a 30th Anniversary package? After all, the Grand Prix got a 40th Anniversary Edition for 2002. Our reviewer described this car as "leaner, trimmer and more contemporary" at the time, but made no mention of the 30th Anniversary Edition. The VIN says this car is a top-grade GT1 sedan, with an MSRP of $22,325 (that's about $39,920 in 2023 dollars). Two engines were available in the 2003 Grand Am: a 2.2-liter Ecotec four-cylinder with 140 horsepower and a 3.4-liter pushrod V6 with either 170 or 175 horsepower. This car has the 175-horse V6, complete with "Ram Air" cold-air induction. That name goes way back in Pontiac history.
