1961 Pontiac Catilina Safari Wagon on 2040-cars
Kirkland, Washington, United States
Catalina Safari Wagon 389 Automatic
This car was sold and stayed in eastern Washington (dry climate) its whole life. Car was sold with 389 , automatic, power steering, power brakes, EZ eye glass all the way around. Deluxe trim interior, radio and full size wheel covers. The car was stripped to metal about 7 years and and epoxy primed and a good quality repaint. There was some bubbling in the lower parts on the doors that was repaired at that time and show no signs of returning. The bumbers are nice and no damage. Car had been inspected on the hoist and has solid floors, storage area body mounts. There is some rust at the bottom of the spare tire well. Much has been done to make the a great driver. I have used it as a daily driver for 2 weeks with now concerns including a few cruises with the car club. Give the tube radio 30 seconds to warm up and it puts out a smooth and nice sound. All lights, turn signal, horn heater, defroster and dome light works. The fuel gauge needs a sender, clock needs serviced or convert to quartz and the wipers a slow to start form old grease in the motor. The miles are 35k, but are believed to be 135k due to the age. But the steering wheel; looks nice, padded dash is perfect and all the windows and in good condition. Even has the original date coded windshield. So maybe it is the lower miles? Car has good tires, shocks, tight steering and a list of recent services are: -Battery -Tune up & ignition wire set- compression tested 160 all cylinders -Cleaned and serviced radiator & Hoses -New belts -Muffler & tail pipe -Brakes front and Rear The interior is amazing, not perfect but it is all original. There is a old patch in the rear headliner above cargo area, small hole in rear of drivers seat, and the lower corners of the door panels are split from the vinyl shrinking over the years. The windows all roll up and down smooth and the doors are all in align and close with ease. I would not hesitate to drive this car as is on a long journey. No water leaks even when left out in the rain. Put a hitch on this old wagon and tow your vintage travel trailer ! I have sold several of my collector cars and some for friends on e-bay. Please remember although this is the nicest original wagon I have seen in years, it is 53 years old and will have some flaws. Road tests and inspection are welcome and encouraged. - Steve Fisher 206-755-3420 |

Burt Reynolds’ former 1978 ‘Smokey’ Pontiac Trans Am in big auction by feds
Mon, Oct 21 2019A 1978 Pontiac Trans Am once owned by Burt Reynolds as a memento of the car he drove in the film “Smokey and the Bandit” will be among nearly 150 muscle cars and luxury vehicles seized from the alleged perpetrators of an $800 million investment scheme that will hit the auction block this weekend in California. ItÂ’s said to be the largest single-owner car collection ever auctioned by the U.S. Marshals, seized late last year from Jeff and Paulette Carpoff, the founders of the now-defunct mobile solar generators company DC Solar. Two employees of the San Francisco Bay Area solar energy company, certified public accountant Ronald Roach, 53, and general contractor Joseph Bayliss, 44, both of the Bay Area. pleaded guilty Tuesday to participating in what federal prosecutors say was a massive scheme that defrauded investors of $1 billion. Both men agreed to cooperate in the ongoing investigation. While the Carpoffs, the company's owners, have not been charged, they agreed to let the government auction their collection of 150 classic, performance and luxury vehicles, including the 1978 Pontiac Trans Am once owned by Burt Reynolds. The replica of the car the late actor drove in "Smokey and the Bandit" and the other vehicles are to be auctioned Saturday, with online bidding already pushing the accumulated value past $5.5 million. Bidding on that Trans Am alone had topped $65,000 by late Tuesday. The auction company said it had been driven less than 3,400 miles. It's the largest single-owner car collection ever auctioned by the U.S. Marshals Service. Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal Lasha Boyden of the Sacramento office called it "a stunning collection of vehicles" that also includes 1990s Humvees, 1960s-era Ford Mustangs, Chevrolet Camaros from several decades, plus older cars including a 1939 Buick Roadmaster, a 1951 Chevy Thriftmaster 3100 pickup truck and a 1941 Plymouth Special Delux with wooden doors and trim. “It is rare for the U.S. Marshals to hold an auction of such a stunning collection of vehicles,” Chief Deputy U.S. Marshal Lasha Boyden in Sacramento said in a statement. ReynoldsÂ’ former Trans Am is a hardtop memento of the version he drove in the 1977 action comedy. It bears Bandit Run logos in the rear window and upper windshield and appears to have modified suspension components and bucket seats. It comes with a Florida registration with ReynoldsÂ’ name on it, and an autograph on the glove box that reads, “Be Safe!
NHTSA investigating 550k Pontiac G6 models, 320k Honda Odysseys
Mon, 10 Jun 2013According to two separate reports in The Detroit News, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is launching investigations into 550,000 Pontiac G6 (pictured above) and 320,000 Honda Odyssey (pictured right) models. The G6 models are all from the 2005 to 2007 model years, while the Odyssey minivans are from the 2003 and 2004 model years. The two NHTSA probes are not related.
In the case of the G6, this is an upgrade to an original investigation that started in February after NHTSA received "hundreds of reports" that the brake lights on these cars may malfunction. According to The Detroit News, the lights may come on when the brake pedal is not depressed, and likewise, the brake lights may not illuminate when the pedal has been pushed. General Motors was able to provide NHTSA with a significant number of warranty claims, including 1,100 reports that could potentially relate to this problem, one of which indicates a vehicle crash.
For Honda, the NHTSA probe concerns airbags that may deploy unexpectedly. The government agency received six complaints from 2003-04 Odyssey owners saying that the front airbags suddenly went off without a crash. The Detroit News reports that three of the six owners sustained injuries from these incidents. Additionally, NHTSA has received 41 complaints from owners saying the vehicle's airbag warning light had illuminated.
GM expands headlight recall to 180k Buicks and Pontiacs
Thu, Aug 20 2015General Motors is issuing an expanded headlight module recall to include 180,504 examples in North America of the 2005 Buick LaCrosse (2008 model year pictured above) and 2007 Pontiac Grand Prix. Specifically, the campaign affects 159,584 of them in the US and 20,920 in Canada. When the part fails, the vehicles' low beams can stop working either intermittently or permanently. "GM is unable to confirm any crashes, injuries or fatalities related to this condition," the company said in a statement, and there's currently no permanent repair for the problem. For now, dealers will replace the headlamp module with a new example of the same part. The automaker first announced this campaign in November 2014 when it affected 316,357 examples globally of the 2006-09 Buick LaCrosse; 2006-2007 Chevy TrailBlazer and TrailBlazer EXT; 2006-2007 GMC Envoy and 2006 GMC Envoy XL; 2006-2007 Buick Rainier; 2006-2008 Saab 9-7X; and 2006-08 Isuzu Ascender.
