This 1960 Pontiac Catalina Convertible is a matching-numbers beauty. At some point the car was painted a non-original red color but it has been returned to the original-to-the-car white utilizing modern base-coat, clear-coat materials. The fender skirts are original steel, not fiberglass repops. The wide-white wall tires are brand new Cokers and sharp eyes might notice that the hub caps are 1959 vintage. I think they look much nicer than the 1960 caps but I do have the originals should the buyer prefer. The interior has been upgraded to the Bonneville leather Tri-Color-Blue style. The interior door and rear side panels were restored by SMS and they also supplied all of the leather, vinyl and carpet materials to original specifications. This was an original padded-dash car and that feature has been retained with covering material matching the hand fitted top boot. Another major interior attraction is the deluxe steering wheel restored by Quality Restorations, Inc., it is beautiful. The trunk has been completely finished with materials matching/complementing the interior. This is a significant upgrade from the rather spartan red factory treatment. The blue top material was also chosen to complement the interior upholstery, much nicer looking than white or black original options. While this color top was not a factory option, many cars of the era were recovered in custom colors. The stock radio has been replaced with a Pontiac-labeled aftermarket AM-FM stereo unit that can accommodate auxiliary CD, IPOD, etc. MP3 inputs. The connections for such accessories are presently routed to the glove box but could be easily changed. The current speakers are very nice dual-cone (both stereo channels) units mounted in the original front and rear locations. The Jetaway/Strato-Flight 4-speed Hydromatic transmission has been completely rebuilt. The VIN matching original engine was completely rebuilt at a very reputable machine shop using more practical 9.5:1 CR pistons in place of the10.75:1 CR originals. The engine is topped off by an original 1960 Pontiac tri-power intake system meticulously restored by Pontiac Tripower (Mike Wasson) with their reliable mechanical progressive linkage replacing the troublesome original vacuum system. Nobody does it better. Additional notables include (I'm sure to forget some); Pertronix Ignitor III electronic ignition; all new dual exhaust system; brakes completely rebuilt; NOS windshield and all new side glass; rebuilt windshield wiper unit; new battery. The car attracts a lot of attention with thumbs-up, waves and compliments. As is standard for a used car it is offered for sale as-is where-is with no warranties stated or implied. By Idaho statute, vehicles over ten years old are exempt from mileage statements. The vehicle mileage is unknown and shows zero on the title as a default.
In light of all the features this car exhibits, a very modest reserve has been set which is well below the cost of undertaking a similar build. The car is for sale locally but will not be sold before the initial listing ends. If the initial listing ends without a sale, any re-listing may be ended at any time due to a local sale. Bid accordingly

Rent the 1967 Pontiac GTO from the XxX films now on Turo
Tue, Jan 10 2017The process of renting a car usually ranges from mildly annoying to "I'm calling corporate to get you fired." Plainly, it sucks, but sometimes you're left with no alternative. Turo, a peer-to-peer carsharing network, has created what's essentially the AirBnB for cars. Like AirBnB, the quality and variety of the rides varies based on location. If you're in Tucson, Ariz., in the next week, go check out this 1967 Pontiac GTO convertible before the release of XxX: The Return of Xander Cage. Promotions and marketing aside, this is still the opportunity to drive one of the original muscle cars. It's not clear if this is an original GTO or a Pontiac Tempest that was converted, but does it really matter? Old cars never drive as well as you hope, so, as long as it looks and sounds awesome, who cares? The owner listed on Turo is Xander C., Vin Diesel's character from the XxX franchise. This is the car that was used in the original 2002 film, and from the photos it appears to be in better shape than many other movie cars. The exterior is mostly stock, with some slight modifications to the lighting, wheels, exhaust, and trim, with the addition of a funky looking hood scoop that the listing claims shoots flames. It's not clear if it functions as an actual intake because there aren't any notes about what rests under the hood. The listing does ask for premium fuel, so more than likely it's some variation of a high-compression V8. Inside, the dashboard looks like someone raided the AutoZone accessory aisle. There are gauges, dials, toggle switches, and readouts galore. The listing also claims the Goat is packing a rocket launcher and a weapons stash under the seat. $999 per day isn't cheap, but it's less than you'd pay for a day with one of the rent-an-exotic shops you see in Los Angeles or New York. If you're not in Tucson or the price is a little too steep, Turo has what it's dubbed the Adrenaline Collection. The name may be hyperbole, but the lineup of cars is actually really solid. A quick glance reveals a 2015 Lamborghini Huracan, 2001 Ferrari 360 Spider, and a 1969 Jaguar E-Type. The car list keeps expanding, so if this proves popular, look for more cool stuff in the future. This 93-car Iowa auction is like a Big 3 classic muscle museum
Tue, Aug 27 2019Bill "Coyote" Johnson has been buying cars since high school and has amassed a collection totaling 113 vehicles, according to NBC 6 News. But time has changed his motivations and priorities, and he's decided to auction 93 of those cars, many of which are classic muscle from Ford, Chevrolet, Dodge, Plymouth and Pontiac. The megasale will take place Sept. 14, 2019, in Red Oak, Iowa, at the Montgomery County Fairgrounds. A 1969 Plymouth Road Runner infected Coyote with a love for Detroit muscle when he was just a teenager, and his desire quickly turned into an obsession. He's spent the past 40 years finding, buying and working on a variety of makes and models. Unlike some collectors, Coyote didn't discriminate against certain brands and has rides from each of the Big 3 automakers. Included in the auction are Camaros, Satellites, Super Bees, Chargers, Challengers, Barracudas, Coronets, GTOs, Mustangs, Cutlasses and others. Possibly the most intriguing aspect of the auction is that all of these cars will be sold as-is with no reserve. Many of them will need work, depending on quality standards, but this seems like a golden opportunity to find a classic car without leaving a bank account in shambles. The auctions are open for bidding online now, and the full auction will take place on September 14. Check out the full listings and bid at VanDerBrink Auctions.
AMC Trans Am Javelin SST, an ultra-rare underdog, is up for auction
Sat, Sep 9 2023Among the rarest of the American muscle cars that went racing in the early Seventies — cars including the Camaro Z/28 and the Boss 302 Mustang — the 1970 AMC Trans Am Javelin SST may be the most hard to find, and among the most valuable. Only 100 units of this unique Javelin were produced, and one of them is up for auction at the Mecum event in Dallas on September 20. The Trans Am Javelin was fashioned in a patriotic livery of tricolor paint — red, white and blue — and arrived after the American Motors Corporation had decided in 1968 to compete in the Trans Am racing series against Ford and General Motors. The company's chief driver, Mark Donohue, would dominate the 1971 season, taking seven wins in his Javelin AMX and that yearÂ’s SCCA Trans-Am Championship. AMC took the trophy with 82 points, well ahead of Ford's 61, Chevrolet's 17 and Pontiac's paltry 7. The example listed for auction came equipped with a 390-cubic-inch V-8 engine with 325 horsepower at 5,000 rpm and 420 pound-feet of torque, power steering and brakes, dual exhaust, BorgWarner four-speed manual transmission and Hurst competition shifter. Its “ram induction system” sealed a chamber around the air filter so that cool air from the functional hood scoop would be funneled into the intake. This JavÂ’s factory price was $3,995 — a mere $32,000 or so in today's money, though it was expensive by the standards of the time. The 100 Trans Ams were among 19,714 Javelin units built in 1970, so they started out rare, and today the surviving examples are highly collectible, if and when they come up for sale. No bid estimate is available yet. Related Video: Motorsports Chevrolet Ford Pontiac Auctions Automotive History Racing Vehicles Classics
