1960 Pontiac Catalina Bubble Top 4 Speed Super Duty Hot Rod Drag Car Gasser on 2040-cars

This is a very cool old Pontiac Catalina bubble top. It is running a rebuilt high horsepower 400 V-8 out of a 1967 GTO. Trans is a Borg Warmer T-10 - 4 - speed. Car was originally a 3 speed on the column car. See the factory auto selector delete plate in the dash pictures. Rear end has 2.56 gears for highway use and good gas mileage. Car still has lots of zip even with the high gears. It has new brakes, exhaust, tires, sway bars front and rear, air shocks, and various other parts. The chrome and stainless trim is all good to excellent in condition. No need to redo any of it unless you want a concourse car. The front and rear windshield glass are good, but all side glass should be replaced. You can get all 6 pieces for both sides new for under $250.00. It is the same as a 1960 Chevrolet hard top car. The car was sandblasted with the side windows down and all trim off of the car. The sand blasting found it's way through the holes where the trim / door hardware attaches so all glass is etched to some degree. It will also need paint. It looks good from 15' away, but whoever did the paint did not prep it right. There are fish eyes, swirl marks, bubbling, etc. on just about very panel. I had a guy tell me that it could look a whole lot better if it was wet sanded and buffed, but I am sticking with a repaint so there are no misunderstandings. There is a small dent on top of the left front fender. The good news is that it appears that the car retains all original body panels. Sure you can tell where rust areas were repaired, but there was no major panels replaced. Has the original rocker panels. A magnet sticks just about everywhere. Floor boards have had some repair also, but the original floor is still there. All body mounts are super solid. The interior is all new and in great shape, but it is dated. Looks like it was done in the 80's. All of the lights, wipers, speedometer, gauges, horn, heater, etc. work. It has a vintage Pontiac factory tach on the dash that also works. The emergency brake works but needs another ratchet / pedal. It does not stay down when depressed. Trunk appears to be solid. Comes with 2 boxes of extra parts. Also has a very nice stereo system with sub woofer in the trunk area. I have the original radio in the trunk and the dash was not altered. All in all, this a great running car that you can fly in and drive home. It drives and stops very solid. It gets lots of attention at car shows and you won't have to worry about seeing another one like it when you show up. Drive it as is with pride and then finish it to your specifications as time and money permits. NO TRADES NO TRADES NO TRADES Now for the business end. I encourage you, or someone you trust or hire, to come by and check out the vehicle in person. I will refund your deposit if the vehicle does not match the above description. The vehicle does not leave here until all funds clear my bank. Bank and cashiers checks can take up to 10 business days. My bank will give me a letter stating the date when the check will clear. I will forward a copy of the letter to you. Bank transfers can take up to 2 days depending on what time of the day it is initiated on your end. Again, my bank will let me know when it clears. Cash is great if picking it up in person. Call me at 314-732-592five to get honest answers to all of your questions BEFORE YOU BID. Thanks, Dave I do not respond to text messages One more time, NO TRADES, Please do not ask. If you do not know, understand, and accept what "no trades" means, then you surely do not have a vehicle that I would be interested in. I do not respond to low ball offers, text messages, or take offers over the phone. If you want to make an offer, please do so through ebay email. Include your name and contact info. If I feel you are a serious buyer, I will contact you back. If you do not hear back from me, then my vehicle must be out of your price range. Once my vehicle hits it's reserve price, I will not end the auction. I do not give out my reserve price. Too many knuckleheads out there that like to play games with bidding just under the reserve amount with no intention of actually buying the vehicle. Makes it look like schill bidding is going on. If you have a feed back rating less that 100% or less than 10 feedbacks, you might want to check with me before bidding. I will sometimes block or cancel bids if I get a bad feeling for the bidder. Non-paying winners are a real problem for sellers and it is hard to get seller fees refunded from Ebay in a timely manner, if at all. For you new members, please don't bid unless you know and accept how ebay works and understand that you are legally committing to purchase if you bid. Not following through with a purchase after winning an auction for a new member can result in ebay canceling your membership. Thanks to all, good luck with your bidding, and have a great day, Dave 314-732-592five |

Airbag recall adds 85k Pontiac Vibes to tally
Fri, 13 Jun 2014The repairs needed for the faulty airbag inflators supplied by Takata continue to expand. Toyota initially announced a recall of 766,300 vehicles equipped with the bad part on June 11 as a followup to a campaign from 2013. Soon after, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened a preliminary evaluation into five automakers who also used the component in their models. Now, NHTSA has released the official announcement of the latest Toyota recall listing 844,277 affected cars, including the newly added 2003-2004 Pontiac Vibe.
While NHTSA's document didn't include a model-by-model breakdown, General Motors spokesperson Alan Adler estimated to Autoblog that roughly 85,000 Vibes in the US would be covered under the latest recall. Like the rest of the affected models, the airbag inflator could rupture in a crash causing the bag not to work correctly, possibly spraying metal fragments at the occupant.
Toyota spokesperson Cindy Knight told Autoblog that the reason for the disparity between the earlier press release and NHTSA document was that Toyota was continuing to comb through VINs to create a list of affected vehicles. The original number was an estimate of that process at the time. Scroll down to the recall report from NHTSA.
GM Design shows what could have been and what might be
Thu, May 27 2021We periodically like to check in with GM Design's Instagram account to see what they're cooking up. Even better is when we catch a glimpse of an alternate history of what legendary designers from The General's past were thinking, though those ideas may not have made it into production. This week, for example, the account posted some illustrations from George Camp, whose career at GM spanned nearly four decades, from 1963 to 2001. One of the renderings is of what appears to be a 1971-72 Pontiac GTO Judge, but with two headlights instead of the production unit's quad beams. The rear departs from the canonical version most dramatically, with a massive integrated wing. Other bits that didn't make the production cut include large side vents, a gill-like side marker and rectangular intakes below the headlights that wouldn't be out of place on a modern design today. Amazingly, from what we can make out of the date, it appears that the drawing was done sometime in 1965, which makes it quite prescient. View this post on Instagram A post shared by GM Design (@generalmotorsdesign) There's also a very aerodynamic interpretation of a Corvette ZR-1. To our eyes it splits the difference between the 1986 Corvette Indy concept and a fourth-generation F-body Pontiac Firebird, so perhaps parts of Camp's work on this sketch did make it into physical form. There's also a radical sports car concept from May 1970 that resembles the Mazda RX-500 concept from the same year, a Syd Mead-looking Cadillac coupe, and an Oldsmobile with a cool take on the company's trademark waterfall grille and elements of the Colonnade Cutlass at the rear. Other recent posts include a FJ Cruiser-like off-road EV, a sleek coupe with the Chevy corporate grille, and a rendering of a Silverado-esque pickup that looks far better than the current production version. GM replacing passenger airbags in over 243,000 Pontiac Vibes
Sat, Jun 20 2015General Motors is repairing over 243,000 additional examples of the 2003-2007 Pontiac Vibe in the US and Canada to replace their Takata-supplied passenger-side airbag inflators. The company has no reports of irregular deployments in the models, though. These aren't actually newly included vehicles in the massive safety campaign. As a twin to the Toyota Matrix, the Vibe was already included in Toyota's figures, but as Pontiac-branded vehicles, GM dealers are taking care of these replacements. They have been covered as part of the Takata campaign in the past. Toyota expanded its own Takata recall to passenger-side components for 1.365 million vehicles on June 16. Earlier, General Motors also issued a campaign for 330,198 examples of the 2007 and 2008 Chevrolet Silverado 2500HD, 3500HD, GMC Sierra 2500HD, and 3500HD pickups to replace their passenger-side parts. After exposure to moisture, it's possible for these inflators to ignite too quickly in an accident and spray shrapnel at occupants. GM Statement The Vibes are included in two Toyota recall campaigns - one for high absolute humidity (HAH) areas and one for non-HAH areas. Both are considered national recalls even though only vehicles in certain HAH states and territories are in the recall. Total Pontiac Vibe passenger air bag numbers for MY 2003-2007 (U.S. and Canada only): High Absolute Humidity 89,719 Non High Absolute Humidity areas 252,685 These are the totals, which include about 99,000 previously recalled. GM knows of no field issues - irregular deployments - with these air bag inflators.
