You are viewing a restored and freshly built ‘55 Pontiac, hardtop, 2 door Coupe.  The hardtop is very fresh and well kept looking like it was just completed.  Built for the street the coupe started off as a very solid body in good condition with minimal rust.  The ‘Coke Trailer’ is restored classic cooler on a new steel frame and axil with high gloss oak bed and stainless steel trim, chrome wheels and baby moons, all painted to match the coupe.  The cooler does NOT have a locking top.

BODY/PAINT:  All rust repaired, the body was soda blasted and primed from the start.  The coupe has numerous primer coats with lots of blocking.  Paint was wet sanded and buffed to a smooth and high gloss.

INTERIOR:  The interior floor is very well insulated.  Red and white vinyl on seats and side/rear panels.  Headliner and door panels are also high grade vinyl.  Carpet is high grade.  Seatbelts, gauges, stereo/CD with 4 speaker system.

RUNNING GEAR…

ENGINE:  287 cubic inch, re-built with head work and intake ports matched and blended, Edelbrock carb, electric fuel pump, electronic distributor.

TRANSMISSION:  Rebuilt Muncie, 4 speed transmission, newer clutch and pressure plate, with Hurst shifter.

REAR END:  Stock differential  and axles, with leaf springs and newer shocks on all corners…I’m guessing 2.73:1 gear ratio.

COOLING:  Stock radiator with new core, and high volume water pump.

BRAKES:  Reworked with new drums and pads.  Wheel bearings replaced.

EXAUST:  Dual 2 inch with Flowmaster Delta 40’s with chrome exhaust tips.

BRIGHT WORK: All new chrome with stainless highly polished.

GLASS:  Windshield is tinted, new replacement glass.

WHEELS/TIRES:  Radial tires are newer.  Chrome wheels with baby moons.

SUMMARY:  The coupe presents itself very nicely and has won its class at a number of shows.  Very clean and still very fresh this coupe will provide lots of good times for its new owner.

DISCLAIMER:  The coupe is for sale locally.  The owner has the right to cancel this listing at any time for any reason.  No warranties or guarantees are expressed or implied with the car being sold in "AS IS" condition.

Feel free to call me to discuss the particulars.  Divorce forces sale.  Will not consider trades.

Junkyard Gem: 2000 Pontiac Sunfire coupe

Thu, Feb 21 2019

In a few months, we'll reach the tenth anniversary of GM's axing of the venerable Pontiac brand. G6s, Vibes, and Matizes continued to be built until 2010, but I'm noticing a marked decrease in discarded Pontiacs lately, as I perform my junkyardy rituals. Here's a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire, photographed in a Colorado wrecking yard. The Sunfire was the near-identical sibling to the Chevrolet Cavalier, based on the long-running (1982-2005) J-Body platform. It was cheap and simple, looked pretty sporty (at least in coupe form), and every parts store in North America carried just about everything you'd need to keep one running. This coupe had to compete for sales not only with a vast and menacing array of imports but with GM's own Saturn SC2 (not to mention the Cavalier itself). Meanwhile, the J platform was showing its age more with each passing year. This car sports what must have been the complete line of Fatal Clothing bomber-nose-art/skate-punk/gang-tag-influenced decals, circa 2010. I actually photographed this car back in 2011, then misplaced the image files until last week. The stickers are very California-centric for a Colorado car, but then plenty of Californians — including me— move here. When you know you're a car's final owner, it's a lot easier to whip out the paint pens and redecorate the interior. Power came from the engine GM developed for the very first J-Bodies: the 2.2-liter 122 pushrod four-cylinder. 2002 was the last model year for 122-powered Sunfires and Cavaliers; the most affordable S-10/Sonoma/Hombre trucks got this engine through 2003. It even came with a remote, so bad Midwestern farmgirls could make quick getaways when caught in the act by enraged broom-wielding mothers. General Motors Recalls Nearly 780,000 Cars To Fix Deadly Problem

Thu, Feb 13 2014

General Motors is recalling nearly 780,000 compact cars in North America because the engines can shut down unexpectedly and cause crashes. The company says six people have been killed in crashes related to the problem. The recall affects Chevrolet Cobalts and Pontiac G5s from the 2005 through 2007 model years. U.S. safety regulators say the weight of the key ring and rough roads can move the ignition switch out of the run position, cutting the engine and electricity. If that happens, air bags may not work. GM says there have been 22 crashes from the problem. All happened at high speeds. Dealers will replace the ignition switch for free. GM says owners should remove nonessential items from key rings until the problem is fixed. Watch this garbage truck consume a Pontiac Grand Am

Wed, 15 May 2013

When an old car or truck offers its dying breath in your driveway and you just don't have the financial or mechanical wherewithal to resuscitate it yet again, you traditionally have to go to the trouble of calling a flatbed or a tow truck to come haul it away. That usually helps to put a few bucks in your wallet and helps recycle some of the vehicle's parts, but the transaction doesn't seem as final or perversely satisfying as the dispatch service that this New Way Cobra Magnum garbage truck offers.
Okay, okay, so this refuse hauler isn't actually designed for this sort of thing, but it's oddly comforting to know that a sanitation truck can compact a hapless Pontiac Grand Am into oblivion. Next time, we won't feel so guilty about slipping that rusty charcoal grille onto the curb next to the cans on garbage day. Watch the carnage by scrolling below.
