This is a true California car survivor. It was built in South Gate, CA and then sold brand new to it's original owner in June of 1963. I have the original sales contract documenting this. This car spent it whole life in southern California and was garage kept. I am the second owner and I have owned it for about 10 years also keeping it stored in the garage. The car  was completely original when I purchased it. It had 96,000 original miles then. I have done some minor upgrades over the years and I have all of the original parts that were removed or swapped out.

The overall condition of the car is good. The paint is original as far as I can tell, but it is not without some flaws, minor chips and scratches and door dings. There is no signs of rust or any cancer. The interior is in great shape, New carpet, headliner and front seat. The back seat and door panels are still original. I also replaced the armrests. The dash is original and has one crack in it. I also installed an aftermarket radio/CD player with two rear 6x9 speakers and amplifier. Radio is hidden in glove box and has a remote control. The dash was left undisturbed. I have also added some auto meter gauges for water temp oil pressure and voltage under dash as well as a mooneyes tachometer.

The transmission is a Super Hydramatic and was completely rebuilt. The engine upgrades include all belts and hoses, water pump, timing chain, edelbrock intake manifold and edelbrock carb with electric choke. Dual exhaust with turbo mufflers and bellflower chrome pipes. I had the original distributer rebuilt and converted to electronic ignition. Spark plugs were just changed as well. Starter and alternator were also rebuilt. Basically every upgrade performed was to make the car a better daily driver. I still have the original parts that were removed and will be included in the sale. The brakes have also been gone through as well. The suspension and front end are still original except for minor lowering and bilstein shocks. I would say the front end may need some attention in the near future and it does slightly pull to the right. The tires are also new as well. The wheels are a Astro Supreme copy made by US Mag. They are 14" like the originals. I have the stock wheels and tires also and will be included too. This is a 5 Lug wheel pattern car which is more desirable for customizing instead of the 8-lug version. The car has factor Air conditioning, but does not work, I have replaced most of the parts to convert it over to 134a but did not finish it. Since it is a no door post car it is more fun to cruise it with all the windows down.

My plan with this car was to make it a mild 60"s style custom. The roof line is the same as the Chevy Impala which adds to it's overall good looks in my opinion. This is a " Widetrack" chassis pontiac, which was designed for better stability and handling. The car drives really well. I used to live in southern California and I drive it up here to the bay area (400 miles) without any issues. since I have owned the car, I have put about 17K. miles on it in a ten year period.

The reason I am selling is I do not drive it as much anymore. My commute to work is only 3 miles and it takes longer to warm hit up in the morning and get it out of the garage than actually driving it to work. I have tried to document everything with pictures. Feel free to contact me for any more info.
I have all the documentation for all of the work done and all the original parts to go with it.

Thanks for looking!

Tony Stewart to star in Smoke Is The Bandit web series

Mon, 10 Mar 2014

NASCAR driver Tony Stewart is making good use of his nickname Smoke in new videos inspired by the 1970s classic Smokey and the Bandit. The original is one of the quintessential automotive movies of its era with a fantastic combination of slapstick comedy and great car stunts in a Pontiac Firebird Trans Am. If you've never seen it, check it out immediately.
In the new six-part Smoke IS the Bandit web series, Stewart takes on the role of Burt Reynolds' famous character complete with huge mustache. But instead of trying to smuggle cases of Coors beer it's Mobil 1 oil. The series promises to recreate many of the famous scenes from the movie and includes cameos from other NASCAR drivers.
To complete the look, future videos just need a quality replacement for a young Sally Field to ride shotgun. It would also be really cool if Reynolds could make a brief appearance at some point. Scroll down to check out the trailer and the first episode in the series.

What car brand should come back?

Fri, Apr 7 2017

Congratulations, wishful thinker! You've been granted one wish by the automotive genie or wizard or leprechaun or whoever has been gifted with that magical ability. You get to pick one expired, retired or fired automotive brand and resurrect it from its heavenly peace! But which one? That's a tough decision and not one to be made lightly. As we know from car history, the landscape is littered with failed brands that just didn't have what it took to cut it in the dog-eat-dog world of vehicle design, engineering and marketing. So many to choose from! Because I am not a car historian, I'll leave it to a real expert to present a complete list of history's automotive misses from which you can choose, if you're a stickler about that sort of thing. And since I'm most familiar with post-World War II cars and brands, that's what I'm going to stick to (although Maxwell, Cord and some others could make strong arguments). So, with the parameters established, let's get started, shall we? Hudson: I admit, I really don't know a lot about Hudson, except that stock car drivers apparently did pretty well with them back in the day, and Paul Newman played one in the first Cars movie. But really, isn't that enough to warrant consideration? Frankly, I think the Paul Newman connection is reason enough. What other actor who drove race cars was cooler? James Dean? Steve McQueen? James Garner? Paul Walker? But, I digress. That's a story for another day. Plymouth: As the scion of a Dodge family (my grandfather had a Dodge truck, and my mom had not one, but two Dodge Darts – the rear-wheel-drive ones with slant sixes in them, not the other one they don't make any more), I tend to think of Plymouth as the "poor man's Dodge." But then you have to consider the many Hemi-powered muscle cars sold under the Plymouth brand, such as the Road Runner, the GTX, the Barracuda, and so on. Was there a more affordable muscle car than Plymouth? When you place it in the context of "affordable muscle," Plymouth makes a pretty strong argument for reanimation. Oldsmobile: When I was a teenager, all the cool kids had Oldsmobile Cutlasses, the downsized ones that came out in 1978. At one point, the Olds Cutlass was the hottest selling car in the land, if you can believe that. Then everybody started buying Honda Civics and Accords and Toyota Corollas and Camrys, and you know the rest. But going back farther, there's the 442 – perhaps Olds' finest hour when it came to muscle cars.

GM recalling another 2.7 million vehicles in five separate campaigns

Thu, 15 May 2014

The recalls keep rolling in from General Motors, evidently keen to avoid repeating the mistakes of the ignition-switch debacle and clean house. This time they're all coming at once, with five separate recalls announced together covering approximately 2.7 million vehicles.
The largest of the five actions involves over 2.4 million units of the previous-generation Chevrolet Malibu and Malibu Maxx, Pontiac G6 and Saturn Aura in order to fix brake light wiring harness, which have been found to be susceptible to corrosion. The recall is separate from the 56k Aura sedans which GM recently recalled over faulty shift cables, not to mention the previous massive recall of 1.3 million vehicles - some of them the same models - but appears to have resulted from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration investigation that started with the G6 almost a year ago.
The second-largest campaign involves the 2014 Chevy Malibu, specifically those fitted with GM's 2.5-liter engine and stop/start system, approximately 140,000 examples of which has been found to have problematic brakes. The issue does not appear to be connected to the recall of 8k Malibu and Buick LaCrosse sedans (also involving brake woes) which we reported upon last week. Four crashes have been reported in such models, but GM admits it's not yet clear if the problem was a contributing factor in the accidents.
