I am selling my 1973 Plymouth Duster. This is a real 340 factory a/c car! The previous owner owned it the past 8 years and used it as a driver. He had the car painted lime light green with a matte black hood and matte black grafix package. The body was in incredible condition with no major rust in the floors, trunk or anywhere in the car. It has one small spot behind the passenger rear tire that is on the surface of the metal, under the paint and is about the size of a nickle. It is not easily seen as it has not come through and could easily be fixed. It does have some rock chips from being driven and a chip on the top front edge of the drivers door from when they first assembled the car. It also has one small door ding on the passenger front fender that did not chip or crack paint so could be pulled by a paintless dent repair person. All of the chips have been touched up and are not noticeable. I cut and buffed the car and it is very glossy and is in good enough condition to feel very proud of at any cruise night or local show. The interior is all new. New carpet, recovered factory seats in black vinyl, new headliner, new door panels, recovered dash pad, repainted and restored dash, new glove box, new steering wheel etc. All gauges and warning lights work. Instrament cluster was replaced with a better condition used one and restored as the speedometor was not working. I added a 5.5 in monster tach under the dash to a pre existing bolt hole so it can be removed if desired. The steering column is tight, has a new igntion switch and tumbler installed. A brand new pioneer mp3 deck has been installed in the dash (no cutting was done) and powers 2 4in speakers under the dash in a custom bracket where the stock speaker used to be and two 6x9 speakers in the rear package tray hidden by the package tray cover. All plastics have been restored and dyed and are in good conditon. Custom embroidered Duster logo floor mats. Has a hurst shifter w reverse lock out and factory style knob.Over all the interior is in great shape and needs nothing. The trunk has been restored with speckled paint has a spare tire in the factory location and has a new factory style rubber trunk mat. The factory trunk light is functional. Insides of both doors have been taken apart and window regulators replaced with perfect conditon cleaned and lubricated used regulators. The door glass has been replaced on both sides with quality reproduciton glass that has the Mopar emblem. Glass has been adjusted tight to prevent as much water and air leaks as possible for this design. Both door locks function with one matching key and ignition functions with one other key. 2 new sets of keys will be included. The exterior body is mostly stock accept for some subtle custom touches to make the car much more appealing visually. The trunk key hole has been shaved and an electronic popper has been installed with a factory style button installed in the glove box. This is reliable and works great and cleans up the look of the back of the car. The rear of the car has been painted matt black to match the hood with the duster 340 logo. The bumper bolts have been welded in and shaved and the bumper has been tucked in for a very clean look. Tail lights trim pieces have been blacked out and the lenses smoked. Factory exhaust tips have been set back flush under the bumper to create a clean look. The factory style spoiler has been painted matt black to match. On the front the factory hood has been retained with the 340 hood scoops all painted matt black. The front grille, light bezels and bumper have been painted matt black for a mean look. The front bumper was narrowed 3 inches and the bumper bolts shaved to better line up with the car and create a much cleaner look. Both of the fender mounted turn indicators work as they should. Now on to the fun stuff. The entire drivetrain is new from front to back. The engine is a fully built and balanced 69 x head steel crank 340. This engine was fully built by the legendary Bruce Winters of arizona who has been building legendary race and street engines since the 60s. The engine is brand new and at this time has aprox 100 miles on it and produces an estimated 425hp and is very streetable. It is topped with a 780 holley street avenger, has a hidden msd ignition and coil, msd plug wires and brand new jet hot coated Dougs headers. The entire engine and compartment have been fully restored and are ready to hit the local shows with pride. The cooling system is also brand new. The entire car has been re wired from front to back with a Painless wiring Mopar wiring harness featuring a mini fuse block. All wiring is new and fully functional and installed in a very clean hidden manner. Powering the car is an optima blue top deep cycle battery. The entire air conditioning system has been gone through with new condensor, dryer, seals etc and it blows ice cold. The msd ignition has been hidden and the factory mopar ignition left in place with dummy wiring to provide a clean factory appearance that will stump even mopar purests. To back up the healthy 340 the factory a833 mopar 4 speed has been gone through with all new bearings and seals from Passion performance a mopar 833 specialist. The drive shaft has new u joints installed and has been re ballanced by Phoenix Rack and axle. The factory rear axle has been retained but rebuilt with a posi and 3.91 richmond gears. To make this car keep up with its looks and additude the suspension had to be right.... Brand new Addco big sway bars were installed front and rear and Qa1 aluminum racing shocks are at all 4 corners. This car handles like a slot car yet rides very nicely. With all the go and handeling capabiliities that this machine has, it would just not be complete with out stopping confidance. The entire brake system has been upgraded with parts from Dr Diff another Mopar specialist. Out back the drum brakes were ditched in favor of Mustang cobra calipers mounted on billet aluminum caliper brackets and squeeze down on a set of Cross drilled, slotted and plated rotors while retaining a functioning parking brake. Up front Dr diff caliper brackets were again used and a larger cross drilled slotted plated roter was installed. Stainless braded brake lines were used to give a firm controlled feel of the pedal. The calipers are color matched to the green of the body and look amazing through the wheels. With all of these components this car could be right at home on an autocross track, drag strip, friday night show hopper or pretty much anywhere. It could also be daily driven if one desired. No expense was spaired to build this into the baddest 340 duster around. The final finishing touch is a set of brand new 18in Coys matt black wheels with a polished lip. Fronts are 18x8 with new 225/40zr18 tires and rears are 18x9 with 225/45zr18 tires. Under neath the car looks as good as on top. The entire underside is coated with a fresh durable black under coating and the suspension and rear axle were all stripped and painted an attractive semi gloss black. With all of the new parts and hardware the under side of this car is as nice as the top. This car is your chance to own a wicked Mopar muscle car that is brand new from top to bottom! Will stand out in any collection and this car is built to be driven and put smiles on everyones face!

'71 Plymouth Hemi Cuda Convertible sells for $3.5M [w/video]

Mon, 16 Jun 2014

We're plenty used to seeing classic cars selling for millions of dollars. It's just that they're usually European: Ferraris, Bugattis, Mercedes and the like. There are some rare American exceptions, usually wearing the names Duesenberg or Shelby. But what we have here is the most expensive Chrysler product ever sold at auction.
The vehicle in question is a Plymouth Barracuda - specifically a 1971 Hemi Cuda Convertible, chassis #BS27R1B315367 - that Mecum Auctions just sold after eight solid minutes of feverish bidding for a high bid of $3.5 million at its auction in Seattle, Washington. That figure positively eclipses the $2.2 million paid for a strikingly similar Hemi Cuda (chassis #BS27R1B269588) fetched nearly seven years ago in Scottsdale and another that was the first muscle car to break the million-dollar mark in 2002.

US Marshal's classic muscle car auction officially in the books

Thu, 25 Sep 2014

The US Marshal's so-called Blood Muscle Auction was completed earlier this month, with the prestigious nine-car field (two cars were added following Autoblog's initial story, a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 and a rare, mid-restoration 1971 Plymouth Hemi 'Cuda) finding new and hopefully law-abiding owners.
While we'd normally recap the stars of the show, in this particular auction, every car's sale was newsworthy. The full list of sale prices doesn't seem to be published, but according to The New York Times, the auction brought in a total of $2.5 million, or an average of about $277,000 per car.
The king of the contest seems to be a 1970 Plymouth Superbird (above, right), complete with a 426-cubic-inch Hemi V8, which brought home $575,000. The trio of Yenko Chevys, meanwhile, all easily cleared the six-figure mark, with the Yenko Camaro (above, far right) clearing $315,000, the Chevelle crossing the block for $237,500 and the supremely rare - one of just 37 - Yenko Nova (shown above, left) selling for an even $400,000.

SRT belatedly claims Plymouth Prowler as one of its own

Wed, 19 Dec 2012

Before Chrysler had Street and Racing Technology, it had Performance Vehicle Operations. What the two entities have in common, before SRT became its own brand, of course, is that each was created to take Chrysler and Dodge (and Plymouth, before it was unceremoniously killed off) vehicles to the next level of style and performance.
We'll leave the question of whether or not the old Plymouth (and later Chrysler) Prowler was ultimately a stylish, performance-oriented car to you, but the boys and girls currently leading the SRT charge at the Pentastar headquarters are keen to accept the retro-rod into the fold.
According to the automaker, all of SRT's current high-performance models owe a debt of gratitude to the old Prowler, due mostly to that car's use of lightweight bits and pieces and innovative construction techniques. If nothing else, the fact that the Prowler's frame is "the largest machined automotive part in history" is pretty cool. Read all the details here.
