1964 Oldsmobile Jetstar 88. 4DR Sedan. Currently Beige with Black interior. Has a 330ci V8 with automatic transmission. Pretty sure this is a numbers matching car with original engine and transmission by the looks of things but I am not positive. It has power steering and power brakes. At one time this car was painted blue. You can see it in the crevices of the door jams. However, I do think the original color was beige based upon the overspray in the trunk but I am not positive. So my best guess is that it was originally beige, then blue, then back to beige. But again, I am not positive. There is no cowl tag on the car, it never came with one, so I have no way of determining the original paint code.

This car is for people who would like an Impala but might want something a little different than everyone else. The body style is basically the same as the 64 Impala 4DR (but with cool fins) and they use some of the same parts. The car is in great mechanical condition. It runs and drives great with no issues. The gas tank and radiator were just dropped, cleaned, and professionally patched so no issues there. New battery, air filter, fuel filter, and a fresh oil change. The rag joint on the power steering pump was also just replaced as well. It will need the transmission kickdown servo connected at some point though.

The body on this car is pretty straight. It has a couple dings and that's about it. It doesn't look like it has had any major body work done. It has been repainted some time ago at least once. The current paint job is what I would rate as about a 5ft paint job. It looks great until you get about 5ft away from the car. The paint is not smooth or polished and there is slight overspray on the trim in some places where it was not taped off correctly.

I put the car up on the rack and there are zero holes in the floor pans and trunk pan so no issues there.

The only rust on the car is one corner of the trunk weatherstrip channel (shown in the pics) and on the inside of the bottom of the doors (also shown in the pics). Its not bad at all but it should be addressed somehow to keep it from getting worse as time goes on.

The car needs a headliner. It also could use some new carpet as it has some aftermarket cut pile carpet laying over the original loop style carpet. I would pull both out and order some new carpet (from an Impala parts dealer) and put it in. Not a big deal. Some of the door panels are fraying up at the bottoms as well. They might need to be replaced down the line.

All of the weatherstrip needs to be replaced. That's around all 4 doors and inside the window channels. Again, this can be ordered from an Impala parts dealer and installed pretty easily. I have already replaced the trunk weatherstrip. It will also need some rollers put in the window regulators. Two for each window. Again, they can be ordered online and its not that hard of an install.

The back window stainless trim is in the trunk. A previous owner pulled it off to seal the window better and never put it back on. The back window might have to be pulled and resealed to put it back. I'm not sure.

The car has brand new 17" American Racing Torq Thrust M Anthracite wheels on BFGoodrich g-Force 235/45ZR17 tires all the way around. I didn't do staggered wheels and tires so you can balance and rotate them as needed. The original wheels and tires come with the car in the trunk.

It also needs a new antenna.

This is an super cool rare car for someone to get started in hot rodding with. A few hundred bucks to put in new weatherstripping, carpet, and a headliner, and this car would be a great street driven hot rod. Then if at some point you wanted to take it to the next level with a paint job you could pretty easily. Great car.

GM recalling 8.4M cars, 8.2M related to ignition problems

General Motors today announced a truly massive recall covering some 8.4 million vehicles in North America. Most significantly, 8.2 million examples of the affected vehicles are being called back due to "unintended ignition key rotation," though GM spokesperson Alan Adler tells Autoblog that this issue is not like the infamous Chevy Cobalt ignition switch fiasco.
For the sake of perspective, translated to US population, this total recall figure would equal a car for each resident of New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Montana, Delaware, South Dakota, Alaska, North Dakota, the District of Columbia, Vermont and Wyoming. Combined. Here's how it all breaks down:
7,610,862 vehicles in North America being recalled for unintended ignition key rotation. 6,805,679 are in the United States.

eBay Find of the Day: 1976 GMC Motorhome is a jolly green giant

If you have a need to relive the 1970s, then here is the vehicle for you. This groovy blast from the past is a 1976 GMC Motorhome currently for auction in Florida on eBay Motors, and it is one green machine - just not in the modern sense.
The seller claims that this beast has had just two owners and has covered a mere 61,308 miles in its decades on the road. It's reportedly never been restored or repainted and comes with all of the necessary books and manuals. A 7.5-liter (455-cubic-inch) Oldsmobile V8 with a three-speed Turbo-Hydramatic automatic transmission powering the front wheels propels this far-out RV, and the double set of rear wheels out back use a self-leveling air suspension to provide a cushy ride.
The purported low miles and good condition really make this GMC a stand out, though. The exterior combination of lime stripes and beige with just a touch of green is like nothing else on the road today. Plus, the polished bumpers and wheels make it all pop. Inside, it's even better with monochromatic green upholstery and shag carpet. It features everything you'd ever need on a long trip, including a bathroom, kitchenette and lots of seating. The only hint of modernization is an HD TV next to the stove, but its size is a perfect fit for the hole there.

The last time I roped a coworker into an automotive debate, I lost. Resoundingly, I might add. Still, 2,385 voters chose to cast their lots for the Fiat 500 Abarth, as opposed to 5,273 choosing the Ford Fiesta ST, and so I can rest easy in the knowledge that at least 30 percent of you, dear readers, see things my way. I still like to think we have more fun, too.
My loss in the first round of our This or That series, in which two Autoblog editors pick sides on any given topic and then attempt to explain why the other is completely wrong, didn't stop me from picking another good-natured fight, this time with Senior Editor Seyth Miersma. Last time, our chosen sides were eerily similar in design, albeit quite different in actual execution. This time, our vehicular peculiarities couldn't seemingly fall any further from one another: A 1980 Oldsmobile 442 wouldn't seem to match up in comparison to a 1989 BMW 635CSi.
How did we come up with such disparate contenders? Simple, really. Seyth and I mutually agreed to choose a car that's currently for sale online. It had to be built and sold in the 1980s, and it had to be a coupe. The price cap was set at $10,000. The fruits of our searching labors will henceforth be disputed, with Seyth on the side of the Germans, and myself arguing in favor of the Rocket Olds. Am I setting myself up for another lopsided loss?
