Wards names its 2015 10 Best Interiors list
Fri, Apr 17 2015Wards Automotive has named the winners of its 10 Best Interior awards, covering a wide but affordable array of vehicles. Where last year's list contained two six-figure vehicles, including the $372,800 Rolls-Royce Wraith, this year's is, well, a whole lot more reasonable. The publication lists the Mercedes-Benz C400 at $65,000 (which seems off), making it the most expensive vehicle here. That said, we'd argue that the entire C-Class line deserves to make this year's list, owing to its varied and high-quality selection of materials. The other vehicle to break the $60,000 mark, meanwhile, is the $60,675 Ford F-150 King Ranch, which has 327,000 pounds of leather lining its interior. Only one other German car, the BMW i3, and one other pickup truck, the GMC Canyon, managed to make this year's list. Nissan explains its preparation work with the GTR LM Nismo
Mon, Apr 27 2015There are eight races in the World Endurance Championship schedule, the third one is the 24 Hours of Le Mans. The Nissan GTR LM Nismo has been designed specifically to compete in that race, and has missed the first two races of the season in order to carry out more testing for that third one, the season objective. Plenty of folks would tell you that racing is the best form of testing, but the Nissan project is doing things so differently that we wouldn't be surprised if they said they were testing on Kilamanjaro because that's just what made more sense. In the video, Ben Bowlby - formerly of DeltaWing - and other team reps talk about how the car was designed, how the choices were made, and failing the first rollover-hoop crash test. If they can keep it running, this year's Le Mans will be even more entertaining than usual.
Mercedes to build CLA at Nissan plant in Mexico [w/poll]
Wed, 25 Jun 2014Volkswagen may have paved the way for American customers to get used to the idea of German cars produced in Mexico, but it won't be the only one for long. BMW is said to be considering production of the 1 Series, 3 Series and Mini south of the border, Audi is working on its own factory in San Jose Chiapa, and now Mercedes-Benz is reported to be following suit as well. Only instead of building its own plant, Daimler is tipped to use a Nissan factory in Aguascalientes.
According to a report in Manager Magazin recently cited by Automotive News Europe, that's where Mercedes is considering building the GLA, CLA and another A-Class sedan. Just what the point would be of another sedan based on the A-Class in addition to the CLA, we're not sure, but if Benz can produce the larger CLS in addition to the E-Class and S-Class sedans, we suppose there'd be room for an A-Class sedan alongside the CLA as well.
We're still waiting on confirmation and comment from Mercedes on the prospect, but one way or another, the increase in Mexican production of German automobiles seems to be a foregone conclusion.
