The 2016 Detroit Auto Show will kick off with the announcement of the annual North American Car and Truck/Utility of the Year awards, and the three finalists in each category have just been revealed. Following this announcement, the jury – which includes Autoblog editor-in-chief Mike Austin – will re-evaluate each candidate before casting a final vote for the winner. This year's finalists are: Car of the Year Chevrolet Malibu Honda Civic Mazda MX-5 Miata Truck/Utility of the Year Honda Pilot Nissan Titan XD Volvo XC90 The 23rd annual awards will be announced on the morning of Monday, January 11. Nissan 370Z Nismo races man in wingsuit

For its latest ad, Nissan brought together a racecar driver in a 370Z Nismo, a BASE jumper in a wingsuit and a Juke crossover with three computer screens to the Susten Pass in the Swiss Alps. As odd as the combination sounds, the ingredients come together quite nicely for an action-packed display of man versus machine in a race to the end of the pass.
No, the Juke didn't race. Nissan left that to 2012 Nissan GT Academy Champion Peter Pyzera in the 370Z, who diced his way down the windy mountain pass. Pyzera faced renowned BASE jumper Dave Barlia in the wingsuit, who jumped off a cliff and relied merely on gravity and lift to rocket down the side of the mountain.
The Juke we mentioned earlier, known as the JukeRide, played an important role in the event, but you'll have to find out by watching the set of videos we provided below, which includes the commercial and behind-the-scenes footage. Racers spark up the night at Spa 24 Hours

By not hosting the top, factory-supported LMP1 endurance machines, the Spa 24 Hours doesn't carry quite the same level of prestige as the 'round-the-clock challenge of Le Mans. The Belgian event certainly shouldn't be ignored, though. Rolling through big elevation changes in the verdant forest, the famous circuit is one of the most beautiful places in the world to hold a race. It offers a real test to drivers, too, with corners like the famous uphill flick at Eau Rouge. In preparation for this year's event on July 25, Nismo is presenting this fantastic collection of short clips from last year's running. The video highlights some wonderfully artistic slow-motion shots of the cars taking on the course. Rather than just putting the sole focus on the company's own GT-Rs, Nismo includes glimpses at the vast array of machines competing in the race, including cars from Mercedes-Benz and Audi. As the sun falls and the track is bathed in darkness, eventually all you can discern are headlights and sparks erupting from the cars as they snake up Eau Rouge. Motorsports fans know that the sport can be beautiful when it's captured from the right angle, and Nismo's editors definitely find those fantastic shots for this minute of video.
