Model Overview
The Maxima has long been billed as the "four door sports car," and nowhere is that more apparent than in the restyled model available for 2009.The Maxima comes in two trim levels: S and SV. Both are powered by Nissan's 3.5L V6, which now makes 290 hp (up 35 hp over last year) and 261 ft-lb of torque. Fuel efficiency has increased, too, up to 19 mpg city and 26 mpg highway. The engine is mated to a Nissan's Xtronic CVT (continuously variable transmission), which features both Drive Sport and manual modes, with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters, and power is put to the ground through the front wheels.Suspension is independent all around, and four-wheel antilock brakes with electronic brake force distribution and brake assist are standard, as is speed-sensitive steering. The base S model comes nicely equipped and features power mirrors, windows, and locks, dual zone automatic climate control, cruise control, and 8-way and 4-way front seat controls for driver and passenger, respectively. Also included is a power sunroof, leather-wrapped shift knob, aluminum door sill plates and an 8-speaker, 6-disc CD changer with MP3 playback. The SV adds fog lamps, Homelink garage door opener, digital compass, leather seating with driver's thigh support, and a 9-speaker Bose digital stereo with speed sensitive volume control. Several options packages are available for the Maxima SV. The Premium Package includes a dual panel moonroof, heated and cooled driver's seat, rear window power sunshade, rear seat climate control, an Infotainment Center with 7-inch screen, heated seats, rear bucket seats, Bluetooth hands-free technology, and much more. The Sport Package features a specially tuned suspension, 19-inch alloy wheels, chassis reinforcement, and several goodies from the Premium Package. A Technology Package adds Nissan Hard Drive Navigation, a 9.3 gigabyte music storage system, and XM satellite radio. All Maximas feature adaptive, dual-stage front airbags, roof-mount side-impact airbags, and rear passenger head protection, as well as traction control, stability control, a tire-pressure monitor, and ABS.

2013 Nissan Pathfinder: January 2013

Wed, 23 Jan 2013

We've now had our long-term 2013 Nissan Pathfinder for about a month, and some impressions are starting to solidify, while others remain contentious among the team. Most notable among those contentious items is our Pathfinder's paint color, which was chosen by vote among the Autoblog team.
Dubbed Mocha Stone, it beat out Cayenne Red by a single vote. I was a Mocha Stone supporter and like it even more in person than on Nissan's configurator. It's a mature choice that can be comfortably placed in the grouping of silver, white and gray tones buyers routinely choose most often over all the colors of the rainbow offered on cars these days for the sake of attention. Staunch opponents of Mocha Stone on the team remain unswayed. Democracy is a difficult process, people.

Nissan unveils ZEOD RC at Nismo HQ in Japan [w/videos]

Thu, 17 Oct 2013

At Le Mans this past summer, Nissan unveiled the first prototype for the ZEOD RC, a new hybrid racecar which it intends to field at the famous French endurance race next year. Four months have passed since then, totaling eight month of development, and now Nissan has revealed the final form at the headquarters of its Nismo racing division.
The updated Nissan ZEOD RC benefits from a more streamlined shape with optimized cooling and improved aerodynamics. Although billed as an electric vehicle and not a hybrid, the ZEOD RC pairs a 1.6-liter turbo four with a pair of electric motors. Its regenerative braking system is derived from the Leaf RC, and after 11 laps, it's said to be capable of taking another around the Circuit de la Sarthe under electric power alone, making it the first racecar capable of doing so. Nissan has further stated that it hopes the lessons it garners from this project will help in its development of a new LMP1 to challenge for overall victory at Le Mans in the near future.
The ZEOD RC will be on display at Fuji Speedway this weekend during the six-hour FIA World Endurance Championship race there, after which it will continue its development at the hands of former GT1 champion Michael Krumm and gamer-turned-racer Lucas Ordonez, who will be getting it ready for (and possibly drive it at) next year's 24 Hours of Le Mans. There it will compete - faster than most GTE sportscars, says Nissan - in the Garage 56 spot that once was awarded to the DeltaWing, which Nissan sponsored and to which the ZEOD RC looks conspicuously similar.

Recharge Wrap-up: Elon Musk talks autonomous cars, Renault to run ZOE in ZENN Monte-Carlo Rally

Thu, Mar 19 2015

Elon Musk discussed the autonomous driving capabilities of the Tesla Model S with NVIDIA CEO Jen-Hsun Huang. He said the car is already equipped with the hardware needed for highway driving. "Even with the current sensor suite, we could make the car go fully autonomous, but not a level of reliability that would be safe in, say, a complex urban environment at 30 miles an hour," says Musk. That would require "a bigger sensor suite, and you need more computing power." Huang and Musk also discussed car hacking and artificial intelligence during the interview at the 2015 GPU Technology Conference. See the video above, and read more at Teslarati. Renault will send four of its ZOE electric cars to the ZENN (Zero Emission, No Noise) Monte-Carlo Rally. The rally, which travels through the principality beginning and ending at the Port of Monaco, is open to electric cars with ranges of less than 250 kilometers (about 155 miles). Visitors can also explore an "electric village," which includes vehicle test drives and information about the future of automobiles. The race takes place from March 20 through 22. Read more in the press release from Renault below. A Seattle-area Nissan dealership has opened a "charging depot" with six fast chargers. Bellevue Nissan now claims to have a larger group of fast chargers than any other dealership in the country. The chargers are part of the NRG eVgo network, and will be available to drivers around the clock every day of the week. They'll also be part of Nissan's "No Charge To Charge" program for Leaf customers. Washington Governor Jay Inslee was on hand at the dealership for the opening, where he called such fast charging stations, "the backbone of our future transportation infrastructure." The proposal passed the Assembly's Committee on Environmental Conservation Tuesday. Its sponsor is Assemblyman Steven Englebright, a Long Island Democrat who says a biodiesel standard would reduce carbon emissions while boosting the state's agricultural industry. Supporters of a biodiesel standard include the New York League of Conservation Voters, the New York Public Interest Research Group and the state's Corn and Soybean Growers Association. Conventional oil companies are opposed.
