Here is your opportunity to own one of the hottest Z-Cars on the road! This 2004 Nissan 350Z Roadster got shipped from new mexico. Previous "First" owner had STILLEN (Steve Millen Motorsports in Costa Mesa, California) tune the car and add their twin-screw, Roots-type supercharger to Nissan's acclaimed VQ-series alloy V-6. Total investment: over $63,000.

With only a little over 48,000 miles on it, it runs as smoothly as the day it left STILLEN's tuning shop, and would make an excellent daily driver. Unlike many performance cars, it is not the least bit delicate or finicky... it wants to be driven! To this day, this superb automobile elicits approving comments wherever it goes, and has been featured in photo shoots as well as seen in a motion picture

The car started life as a stock '04 Nissan 350Z Roadster, with automatic transmission and the "Touring" package (with optional "Z" logo floor and trunk carpet mats). It included the black fabric power top, heated seats, CD/Cassette/Radio BOSE sound system with subwoofer, and leather-trimmed interior with orange stitching on the seats, which compliments the factory "Le Mans Sunset" metallic paint. It also has HID headlamps, and LED taillights. To this the master mechanics of STILLEN - Steve Millen Motorsports of Costa Mesa, California - add their twin-screw, Roots-type supercharger. BTW, Steve Millen was Nissan's factory race car driver for many years, so he and his team know the Z-Car quite well. His mechanics also added their proprietary intake with K&N rechargeable air filter, performance pulleys, additional ground wires on the engine, an intercooler for the supercharger, extended oil pan with large sump (to minimize cavitation during hard cornering), lower-temperature engine thermostat for better performance in warmer climates, their own stainless steel exhaust system (which, under acceleration, produces a tone reminiscent of a Formula One racer), adjustable anti-sway bars front and rear, upgraded transmission (in order to better deal with the increased horsepower and torque), ground effects body kit (painted in the factory "Le Mans Sunset" color), a real carbon fiber hood to accommodate the supercharger, and a rear-deck spoiler. The car has been run on full-synthetic Mobil-1 oil since purchased. Also added, at a later date, were 19" SSR Semi-Solid Forged Racing light alloy wheels (wider in the rear). Driver rear wheel (forged) has been replaced with similar light wheel. It has Racing Brake 4-pot disc brake calipers front and rear, with two-piece rotors all around (drilled and slotted in the front; slotted only in the rear). The interior had real aluminum trim added to the factory trim pieces, and is equipped with a Genuine Nissan dealer-option GPS system. The car is currently equipped with General all-season performance tires (they offer fine wet-weather traction) that have slightly over 5,000 miles on them. Being nine years old, there are some very minor paint chips and scratches, but, as you can see from the photos, nothing at all which detracts from the car's general appearance. The interior leather trim is also in very good shape, as well.

So, how does this car perform? One word: AMAZING. Just depress the accelerator, and feel the supercharger surge! Unlike a turbocharger, the supercharger kicks-in from the get go, providing it's power boost from idle through redline. And the handling? If this car doesn't make you smile through the twisties, nothing will! It sticks like glue. This Z makes you want to seek-out mountain roads.

Why it's difficult to accurately test the efficiency of a plug-in car

Thu, Feb 5 2015

When it comes to electric vehicles and plug-ins in general, the Environmental Protection Agency-certified range is a hugely important number. While actual range anxiety is largely psychological, the magic number does provide a point of comparison of buyers considering one EV over another. The driving distance is also often touted by automakers when marketing their models. Unfortunately, as Green Car Reports finds in a recent deep dive, the way the EPA calculates the figure is a convoluted mess, and discovering the reasons why is definitely worth the read. The issue isn't about bad science but instead comes down to vague wording. The EPA's accepted range test is sourced from an evaluation called J-1634 from the Society of Automotive Engineers, and it seems to provide balanced results for vehicles that automatically reach a single state of charge when plugged in. However for models with multiple charge settings, the situation gets complicated very quickly. Of course, these modes are often created in the software, meaning that a car's certified driving distance can change with just a few taps of the keyboard without the real world results owners might experience actually changing. By showing the test's effects on the certified range for the Tesla Model S, Nissan Leaf and Mercedes-Benz B-Class Electric Drive over the last few years, Green Car Reports makes a compelling argument that it's the evaluation that needs to change. Thankfully, it appears that the solution is a very simple one. Get the details here.

Nismo smartwatch concept tracks both car and driver [w/videos]

Mon, 09 Sep 2013

Whether you agree or not, this writer believes that every supercar needs a wristwatch to go with it. Though the Nissan GT-R has been lacking in this one regard, Nissan is keen to correct that wrong. But while most of these automotive-inspired timepieces are decidedly mechanical, Nissan has gone a suitably different direction in creating its new Nismo watch concept.
The electronic smartwatch connects driver, car, watch and phone in a sleek design. The device allows drivers to monitor such parameters as the car's average speed and fuel consumption, access performance telematics on the track, monitor their own heart rate and interface with their smartphone via Bluetooth and a dedicated app. The watch can even tell the driver when it's time to bring his car in for scheduled maintenance, post lap times and such to popular social media platforms, and of course, you know - literally give you the time of day.
Though still in the concept phase, Nissan seems keen to bring this to market, has even gone so far as to design the packaging - made of tire rubber scraped off the track - and done it up in three colors: red, white or black. In the meantime Nismo will be showcasing the smartwatch concept at the Frankfurt show this week, where we hope to get a glimpse up close, but you can delve into the press release and the pair of videos below.

Porsche 911 and Nissan 350Z get smoked by unlikely hero

Mon, Jun 1 2015

So a Nissan 350Z Procharger and a current Porsche 911 GT3 drive onto the Autobahn together - stop me if you've heard this one before - and they decide to race. We're not sure how much power the Z is packing, but the stock model topped out at 306 horsepower on the last year of its run in 2009. And if that's a stock GT3 then it will be rocking something like 475 horsepower. So the Z and the GT3 give it a racing go, and just as one of them starts to pull away they're both overtaken by one of the most unlikely dark horses you could imagine. It's a really short video and we won't spoil the surprise, so check it out above.
