I wish to sell my 1988 Dodge Raider, also known as a Mitsubishi Montero. I will describe the vehicle to the best of my ability and also the summary of my acquisition of it and any work that has been done to my knowledge.  First, I bought the Raider several months ago, with the intention to "fix it up". It was a local vehicle advertised for sale with a "bad engine." It was also noted that the vehicle had not been on the road, and stored in a barn, for approximately ten years. The condition of the body and interior would seem to validate that statement. Additionally, the Pa inspection sticker displayed on the windshield expired in 2004. The first thing I noticed about it, was that it was in surprisingly good cosmetic condition.

I got the Raider started a few days after I brought it home. I did start, however the motor had a noticeable knock. A long story short, I ended up pulling the oil pan and discovered that one of the rod bearings had completely disintegrated. It looked as though the previous owners had not run the motor much after the knock developed, as the crank had minimal scoring. Since I was having trouble finding a replacement motor, I put a new bearing in, and put everything back together. Of course it is usually not advisable to replace a bearing where there is even the least visible scoring, but I didn't have the resources to get everything done like new. Now, the motor runs fine, but there is a small knock when it is first started, which seems to disappear within a few seconds. To be honest, sometimes you can hear a faint knock or rattle type sound. I do not know what this is, or how it relates to the initial bearing failure. The motor feels strong. It does not appear that there was any damage to any of the cylinders. It might be prudent to completely rebuild the motor, or replace it.

The brakes barely work. I do not know why, I have not looked into it. It could be something very simple, due to the vehicle sitting for 10 years. Also, it will need tires since they are prone to dry rotting and flat spots after sitting for such a lengthy period.

As far the body and interior, they are in very good condition, as can be seen in the pictures. There is only a few minor spots of rust. The undercarriage does have same small surface rust, which can easily be peeled off with your fingers. The frame is solid. The underbody is solid. Any surface rust could be removed and some undercoating applied to bring it back to excellent shape. There is a small rust spot behind the rear bumper on one side. The front bumper one the driver's side corner is bent back about half and inch, due to an appear bump into something. There are some chips in the paint on the front of the hood.  The interior is nearly immaculate, and one will be surprised to see how good of condition it is in.

If you are reading this, then you probably know what these vehicles are. The most remarkable aspect of this one, is that the body and interior are in such good condition. This might just be one of the nicest original Raiders left in existence, period. I really like this thing, and I had big plans to fix it up. Unfortunately for me, I no longer have the time or the money to invest in another project. I just want to get rid of it. Not to mention I need the space in my garage. It has been in my garage since early this year, I just got it out to take some pictures. Like I said, it starts right up, runs and drives. I moved it under its own power. I have not driven it on the road, so I cannot attest to any condition of its roadworthiness. I only moved it around my property.

Anyone is welcome to come inspect the vehicle, just send me a message to set up a time.

The Raider has a clean Pennsylvania title in my name. There are local notary services where the buyer and myself can go to during normal business hours to transfer the title. Buyer is responsible for paying any fees associated with the transfer transaction, and/or any registration, plates, tags, etc.

Buyer is responsible for any towing or shipping arrangements.

I will accept a PayPal payment, or cash payment only. No personal checks, no cashiers checks. I reserve the right to relist the vehicle for auction if the winning bidder has not either made full payment, or has not contacted me to tell me when I will receive payment (i.e. when they are coming to pay cash), within 3 days of the auction's close.

Feel free to ask any questions. Thank you for looking. Have a good day.

Carlos Ghosn freed from jail after four months

Wed, Mar 6 2019

TOKYO — Wearing a mask, cap and what looked like a construction worker's outfit, the former chairman of Nissan Motor Co., Carlos Ghosn, left a Tokyo detention center Wednesday after posting 1 billion yen ($8.9 million) bail. Although his face was obscured as he left the facility, Ghosn's identity was apparent as he smiled after arriving at a building in downtown Tokyo, having removed his jacket, mask and hat. There was a scramble by media to follow Ghosn after he boarded a small Suzuki van, topped with a ladder, and traveled from the Tokyo Detention Center toward downtown. Motorcycles trailed the van in formation as it passed through city streets to one of the defense lawyer's offices. Ghosn later left in another car, which was mobbed by media. Ghosn, the former head of the Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi Motors alliance was arrested on Nov. 19. He is charged with falsifying financial reports and with breach of trust. The Tokyo District Court confirmed the 1 billion yen ($8.9 million) bail was posted earlier in the day, after a judge rejected an appeal from prosecutors requesting his continued detention. That cleared the way for Ghosn to leave the facility after spending nearly four months since his arrest. Before his release, Ghosn, who turns 65 on Saturday, issued a statement reasserting his innocence. "I am innocent and totally committed to vigorously defending myself in a fair trial against these meritless and unsubstantiated accusations," he said. A date for his trial has not yet been set. Suspects in Japan often are detained for months, especially those who insist on their innocence, like Ghosn. Some legal experts, including Junichiro Hironaka, one of his lawyers, have criticized the system as "hostage justice," saying the long detentions tend to encourage false confessions. Ghosn's lawyer in France, Jean-Yves Le Borgne, said the lawyers in Japan will be leading the defense but he was in touch with them. "He is catching his breath and settling in," Le Borgne said of Ghosn. French Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire said a presumption of innocence for Ghosn was crucial, while noting the importance to France of the alliance between Nissan and French automaker Renault SA. "It is a good thing that Carlos Ghosn can defend himself freely and serenely, and his release will permit Carlos Ghosn to defend himself freely and serenely," he said. The French government owns about 15 percent of Renault SA, making it an influential voice in the future of the alliance.

Nissan, Renault break up the Ghosn-style almighty chairmanship

Tue, Mar 12 2019

YOKOHAMA, Japan — Japan's Nissan Motor and France's Renault said they would retool the world's top car-making alliance to put themselves on more equal footing, breaking up the all-powerful chairmanship previously wielded by ousted boss Carlos Ghosn. The removal of Ghosn, credited for rescuing Nissan from near-bankruptcy in 1999, had caused much uncertainty about the future of the alliance and some speculation the partnership could even unravel. The companies, together with junior ally Mitsubishi Motors, on Tuesday said the chairman of Renault would serve as the head of the alliance but — in a critical sign of the rebalancing — not as chairman of Nissan. "This is a very special day for the alliance," Renault SA's chairman, Jean-Dominique Senard, told reporters after a meeting at Nissan's Yokohama headquarters. He spoke to reporters along with Renault's chief executive, Thierry Bollore; Nissan CEO Hiroto Saikawa; and Osamu Masuko, CEO of the smaller Japanese alliance partner Mitsubishi Motors Corp. Those four executives will meet every month in Paris or Tokyo and oversee various projects, helping to make the companies' operations more efficient, they said. Nissan has said that Ghosn wielded too much power, creating a lack of oversight and corporate governance. It was not clear who would become Nissan's chairman, vacant since Ghosn was arrested in Japan in November. But the automakers gave no indication of any immediate change in their cross-shareholding agreement, one which has given smaller Renault SA more sway over Nissan. The alliance did not announce any changes in mutual stake holdings. The so-called Restated Alliance Master Agreement that has bound them together so far remains intact, they said. "We are fostering a new start of the alliance. There is nothing to do with the shareholdings and the cross-shareholdings that are still there and still in place," Renault Chairman Senard said. "Our future lies in the efficiency of this alliance," he told reporters at Nissan's headquarters in Yokohama. Senard also said he would not seek to be chairman of Nissan, but instead was a "natural candidate" to be vice-chairman. Former Nissan chairman Ghosn was released on a $9 million bail last week after spending more than 100 days in a Tokyo detention center.

Mitsubishi's nip-and-tucked Eclipse Cross shows its face for the first time

Thu, Sep 17 2020

Mitsubishi's long-promised new models are right around the corner. It released a dark image to preview the 2022 Eclipse Cross, which will boast comprehensive visual updates when it arrives in the first quarter of 2021. Although the photo keeps the full design under wraps, we can tell the Eclipse Cross falls in line with the rest of the Mitsubishi range by adopting new-look headlights with swept-back LED accents and thick pieces of C-shaped trim. Few would qualify these changes as revolutionary, but bigger modifications are found out back. The preview image suggests — and earlier spy shots confirm — that stylists have smoothed out the crossover's rear end, which some have likened to the unfortunate Pontiac Aztek. The end result is a sleeker, less hunchback-like design. Mitsubishi claims the nip-and-tuck makes the Eclipse Cross look more upscale and energetic. We'll wait until it shines more light on its entry-level crossover to decide if it has achieved its goal. Our hopes are high, because the Eclipse Cross will usher in the design language that will permeate all of the brand's new models in the 2020s. "The Eclipse Cross is the first step toward the next generation of Mitsubishi Design, and there is so much more to come," said Seiji Watanabe, the general manager of the company's design department, in a statement. Mitsubishi focused on exterior design, but we're assuming the 2022 update will also bring a new-look interior. We don't know if the firm will make mechanical changes. As of writing, the Eclipse Cross is only offered with a turbocharged, 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine that makes 152 horsepower and 184 pound-feet of torque. It spins the front wheels via a continuously variable transmission (CVT), though all-wheel drive is offered at an extra cost. Additional details about the 2022 Mitsubishi Eclipse Cross will emerge in the coming months. When it arrives, it will join the updated Outlander PHEV (which will receive an improved hybrid powertrain) and the redesigned Mirage in showrooms. Finally, the next-generation Outlander is due out in the second quarter of 2021. Mitsubishi Crossover
