Mitsubishi Engelberg Tourer electric crossover partly revealed in teaser
Mon, Feb 25 2019Another teaser image has been released of the new electric crossover concept eloquently named Mitsubishi Engelberg Tourer. It shows the crossover's profile, and most of the details are hidden in shadow. But with a little tweaking with some basic photo editing software, we can actually get a good look at the crossover. What we see is actually a fairly conventional-looking crossover, one that doesn't look too far from production. The greenhouse is realistically tall, and the lights aren't too fantastical. The boldest design choice is the extra thick D-pillar with a vertical line next to the side windows. Other details are creases over the wheel arches that suggest fender flares where there are none, and a fender vent accent that clearly states the crossover has an electric powertrain. We can also see it has a roof box mounted on top, which must house the off-road lights we saw in the last teaser. Considering how grounded in reality this concept is, we're expecting at least the design will appear fairly unchanged on a future Mitsubishi model. The normal Outlander would be a good bet, since that crossover is due for a complete redesign, and its proportions are similar to this concept. If this is previewing a new Outlander, expect the production model to still have an internal combustion engine along with a plug-in hybrid variant. A full electric might not be guaranteed, but would be possible, since Mitsubishi could draw on its own EV expertise from the Outlander PHEV and i-MiEV, as well as corporate ally Nissan. Mitsubishi signals the return of its Ralliart performance line
Wed, May 12 2021Mitsubishi is reportedly reviving its long-dormant Ralliart performance line, giving longtime fans of the rally-inspired nameplate hope that some fun models may one day return to the Mitsubishi lineup as part of the company's efforts "toward the realization of Mitsubishi Motors-ness," whatever that means. Per Forbes, Mitsubishi dropped this nugget during an investor call in Tokyo on Tuesday. The return of Ralliart after more than a decade in mothballs would be a pleasant surprise for Mitsubishi fans, but don't expect this to indicate a return of the old-school Lancer Evolution lineup — or anything else with four doors and a traditional trunk, for that matter. Don't believe us? Check out Mitsu's own materials: After all, rallying is largely an off-road endeavor, and with modern consumers thirsting for high-riding crossovers and SUVs, it should come as no surprise that Mitsubishi's Ralliart revival will come from that direction. In better news, it appears that Ralliart's return will include new branded parts (and accessories, we imagine), which could mean that even non-Ralliart models will get some post-delivery love. We also wouldn't be shocked (sorry) if the new vision for Ralliart is grounded (OK, we're not really sorry) in an electrification strategy. Recharge Wrap-up: Phoenix Cars delivers ZEUS to Navy, Volt saves gas compared to i-MiEV
Thu, Apr 23 2015Phoenix Cars has delivered its first Zero Emissions Utility Shuttle (ZEUS) flatbed truck to the US Navy. The electric flatbed will be used to transport maintenance materials around Naval Base Ventura County Port Hueneme. The Phoenix ZEUS features a 100-mile range, and can charge in just three hours. It also features vehicle-to-grid technology and direct power capability, allowing it to function as a mobile power station. ZEUS customers enjoy an eight-year/300,000-mile battery warranty and round-the-clock technical support from Phoenix. Phoenix launched an electric passenger shuttle last year, and years ago worked on an electric sport utility truck before shifting over to larger vehicles. Read more in the press release from Phoenix Cars. A man found that he used less gas by trading in his Mitsubishi i-MiEV for a Chevrolet Volt. Ben Rich saved fuel in part by using his Volt for road trips rather than needing to rent cars. Rich also found other benefits to driving a Volt, including more comfort, more freedom of movement and less range anxiety. Rich often had to turn off the heat in the winter to eke out precious miles in the Mitsubishi, which he needn't do in the Chevy, though he did have a gripe about the Volt using the gas motor to warm the car. ChargePoint has tallied over 9 million charging sessions for a total of 65 gigawatt hours of energy. Based on national efficiency averages of three miles per kWh and 23.9 miles per gallon, this has saved 8.2 million gallons of gasoline and 60 million pounds of CO2.
