Condition:
  • I purchased the car in 2008 at around 66k miles, and have only added another ~45k miles since and have kept it in great shape. The most significant repair ever made during my ownership was in (I think) 2010, when the radiator cracked and was subsequently replaced (with no problems since).
  • I recently (about 2 months ago) had a full fuel/air induction service done, so it's running in excellent condition.
  • About a month ago, I had the power steering and timing belts replaced (as they looked a little worn). The battery is also relatively new.
  • The tires and brakes are a little worn (specifically the back tires), but still have a fair amount of life (state inspection thought they were fine - I specifically asked about them).
  • Some minor aesthetic problems: front fender has chipped paint in the center and crack/scuffs on the right side, dashboard is cracked and missing the fuse door panel, and the driver's seat has a tear -- all of these are visible in the pictures.
  • The car recently (9/11) passed the Maryland State Inspection, and the certificate is available for your registration. A clean CARFAX report is also available upon request.

Viewing, Payment, and Shipping:
  • If you would like to view (and test drive) the car in person, I'd be very happy to accommodate -- please contact me to schedule an appointment for Saturday, 9/27. Saturday (any time that day) is the only day (unfortunately) I will be able to accommodate viewings and test drives.
  • The sale should be finalized (through full cash payment) by Sunday, 9/28. I would be happy to deliver the car to Baltimore or DC (or any location similarly distanced from Frederick, MD) both to collect payment and sign over the title.
  • Finalizing the sale after 9/28 is more complicated, as I will be going out of town on Monday, 9/29 -- please contact me before bidding if you are not able to pay in full on Sunday to see if other arrangements can be made. I might accept cash or check payments after Sunday, but would not release the car until payment clears, would not be able to deliver the car to you, and would have to transfer the title by mail so the processing time could be significant.

Here are a few of our automotive guilty pleasures

Tue, Jun 23 2020

It goes without saying, but I'll say it anyway. The world is full of cars, and just about as many of them are bad as are good. It's pretty easy to pick which fall into each category after giving them a thorough walkaround and, more important, driving them. But every once in a while, an automobile straddles the line somehow between good and bad — it may be hideously overpriced and therefore a marketplace failure, it may be stupid quick in a straight line but handles like a drunken noodle, or it may have an interior that looks like it was made of a mess of injection-molded Legos. Heck, maybe all three. Yet there's something special about some bad cars that actually makes them likable. The idea for this list came to me while I was browsing classified ads for cars within a few hundred miles of my house. I ran across a few oddballs and shared them with the rest of the team in our online chat room. It turns out several of us have a few automotive guilty pleasures that we're willing to admit to. We'll call a few of 'em out here. Feel free to share some of your own in the comments below. Dodge Neon SRT4 and Caliber SRT4: The Neon was a passably good and plucky little city car when it debuted for the 1995 model year. The Caliber, which replaced the aging Neon and sought to replace its friendly marketing campaign with something more sinister, was panned from the very outset for its cheap interior furnishings, but at least offered some decent utility with its hatchback shape. What the two little front-wheel-drive Dodge models have in common are their rip-roarin' SRT variants, each powered by turbocharged 2.4-liter four-cylinder engines. Known for their propensity to light up their front tires under hard acceleration, the duo were legitimately quick and fun to drive with a fantastic turbo whoosh that called to mind the early days of turbo technology. — Consumer Editor Jeremy Korzeniewski  Chevrolet HHR SS: Chevy's HHR SS came out early in my automotive journalism career, and I have fond memories of the press launch (and having dinner with Bob Lutz) that included plenty of tire-smoking hard launches and demonstrations of the manual transmission's no-lift shift feature. The 260-horsepower turbocharged four-cylinder was and still is a spunky little engine that makes the retro-inspired HHR a fun little hot rod that works quite well as a fun little daily driver.

Recharge Wrap-up: Fiat 500X emissions, Japan EV sales down

Thu, Feb 11 2016

The Fiat 500X exceeds EU emissions limits, according to environmental lobby group DUH. In dyno tests, DUH found NOx emissions in the diesel-powered 500X to be 11 to 20 times the limit with a warm engine, but closer to the limit with a cold engine. Testing of vehicles from Fiat and other automakers "point towards defeat devices," says DUH campaigner Axel Friedrich. Fiat Chrysler Automobiles (FCA) offered no comment in response to the accusations. Read more from Reuters. A UK study finds that about 20 percent of the benefits from fuel efficient vehicles are negated by a tendency for people to drive them more. The study, which covers the years 1970 to 2011, finds a significant "rebound effect," when consumers use more of a cheaper energy source. It suggests these drivers drive more not because of the fuel efficiency, but because of the lower operating costs. "Until now, we didn't know the size of this effect for British motoring," says Dr. Lee Stapleton, Research Fellow for the University of Sussex Centre on Innovation and Energy Demand. "We found evidence of a significant, long-term rebound and expect our results to be of interest for public policy." Read more at Green Car Congress. Japanese EV sales have declined for the first time ever. Sales of electric vehicles slid 22 percent in 2015, leaving them at the same levels as 2012. Low gasoline prices are to blame, as well as the late arrival of the updated Nissan Leaf, which caused potential customers to hold off on their purchase. This allowed the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV to take the lead as Japan's best selling EV. The Toyota Prius Plug-In came in third place in EV sales, with the BMW i3 close on its heels. Mitsubishi showing off 473-hp Lancer Evo X Concept Final at Tokyo Auto Salon

Mon, Dec 29 2014

We know from the head of Mitsubishi USA that the special edition Lancer Evo X coming next June will be a five-speed GSR model with more horsepower, a tweaked suspension and some additional fancy "bits and pieces." We didn't expect to be this, the Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X Final Concept with an ECU tune and new HKS turbo making its 2.0-liter engine good for 473 horsepower. That's 183 more ponies than the stock model. Based on a five-speed GSR, on top of that power boost it gets larger intakes and intercoolers, an upgraded cooling system and exhaust, an adjustable suspension from HKS and 19-inch Rays forged wheels. The finish is a mix of matte and gloss black, and chrome trim. Actually, we still don't expect the special edition we'll get to mimic the Evo X Final Concept; rather, we think this black beauty is a full-fat showcase for the Tokyo Auto Salon, where the Evo X Final Concept will be shown. It's a tantalizing could-have-been, and now that we've seen what Mitsu can do with the Lancer Evo when it cares just a little, we hope our that end-of-series special isn't too disappointing by comparison.
