This auction is for one Mitsubishi 3000gt fwd naturally aspirated base model that has been custom rally tuned by kinetic (their website is www.coloradomountainrally.com, more details and pictures are there)

A bit rough on the eyes, this one's got it where it counts! Fast and fuel efficient, its perfect for your dailly commute and weekend race/ rally events. Also included is a set of four studded snow tires mounted on 17" chrome rims. Use these in the winter or at your rally events. Most routine maintanence has been taken care of. Included with the car is a brand new water pump, timing belt, tensioners, hydrualic pulley, oil pump, and cam seals. I recomend you put these new parts in so the service manual is included, if you want to get to know the car better by doing it yourself. All the features on the car work and are ready to perform on your next cross country road trip. This car really lives up to the "Grand Touring" name!

You will notice some missing interior panels, these were removed to reduce weight. Unmodified the operating weight (with driver and full
gas tank) of this car was 3,480 pounds, that has now been brought down to just under 3,200 pounds. You can get even lighter for race day if you take out the
back seats and spare tire, which can be removed with a total of 4 bolts. Some exterior panels have been removed for the same reason. There are
numerous dents and scratches on the car and the paint is peeling on the front bumper. Perfect if you wanted to replace them with custom lightweight body panels anyways, or if you just plain don't care about anything except how fast it can go and how fun it is to drive. In all this one is a great performer and seems like it will
go to 300k (the car has about 216k on it now). Check out the extensive list of added parts (part price only, I won't list labor), this car is
practically free with a starting bid just under $1000 and no reserve!

So pay attention, here are the juicy details and quirks about this car. I am the fourth owner, I have all the documentation from all the previous owners. Its seriously like four inches thick of maintanence records, this car has been well taken car of since it left the lot in 1994. All the features work, AC is ice cold, cruise control is flawless. Some things don't work that well though. The low washer fluid light is on, even though the tank is full. The sunroof opens but not all the way. The reverse gear tends to fall out a lot. This is not Mitsubishi's fault. The transmission was rebuilt at Jacks Transmission, which is allegedly the best for this car. Well the consensus of professional mechanics is that the problem is indeed with Jacks, they screwed it up and have made a great effort not to own up to it. So it is a rebuilt tranny to above OE spec, new clutch, new pressure plate, new cables, etc. But it needs a new fork. The reverse works, just not very well.

Maintanence. So since 165k the car has new thermostat, radiator cap, battery, alternator, wires, spark plugs, ignition cables, transmission, shift cables, shifter, clutch, pressure plate, clutch line, slave cylinder, brake rotors front and back, brake pads front and back, brake lines front and back, front spindles, front calipers, tires, rims, swaybay endlinks front and back, rear swaybar, full coilover suspension front and back, steering rack, accessory drive belts, hid lamps, and fuel filter. all fluids have been flushed and replaced on schedule with premium lubricants. There are no leaks in any system. The car will burn about a quart of oil in 5,000 miles during the summer, adding about half a quart of lucas each oil change keeps this in check.

Gas mileage is about 27-31 mpg in most driving conditions. I have been driving through winters in this car since 2007 and been stuck in the snow twice. In all this car has been a dream come true and I am sad I won't get to see the odometer over 300k. It's okay though, I'm sure this car will shine for it's fifth owner! It's been such a great car, I will gladly deliver it at no additional charge anywhere south of Edmonton or North of Miami for any sucessful bid over $3,600. Otherwise, please come see me in Longmont, Colorado.

Specs:
D2 Rally Asphault Full Coilover suspension, adjustable front camber plates, -3" to +2" ride height adjustment, 11.5/7.1 spring rates $1100
Front upper strut bar and new front sway bar links $150
Rear custom sway bar, new endlinks and energy bushings $250
New transmission rebuilt by Jack's Transmission w/ higher performance components $900
Short throw shifter, new shift cables, new excedy clutch and excedy pressure plate, stainless steel clutch line $350
New General G-MAX AS tires and tracklite 17" rims $1100
Custom dual element intake, lightweight radiator fan $150
10.2mm silicon race wires, iridium pulse plugs $150

New alternator, upsized battery, new lower impedence positive and negative lead wires $350

4 studded General Artimax tires mounted on four 17" Italian Chrome rims >$500 (~7/32nds tread left, rims are scratched up)

That's over $5,000 of new parts that have been installed! (not including the sound system, of course. consider it a freebie!)

Junkyard Gem: 2004 Mitsubishi Lancer Ralliart

Sun, Dec 6 2020

I do manage to find the occasional discarded Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution during my Denver-area junkyard explorations, but such cars— like their Subaru WRX rivals— are always far too crashed and/or stripped to be worth documenting for this series. When it comes to the Mitsubishi Lancer O-Z Rally Edition, though, I get the impression that just about every Lancer sold here during the first part of the 2000s had that all-show-and-no-go package; after shooting several examples, I no longer pay attention to the O-Z Rally. The Ralliart Lancer, on the other hand, was a genuine factory hot-rod, with much more power and a stiffer suspension than the ordinary Lancer. We saw a used-up bright yellow '05 Ralliart last year, and now here's a black '04 in a different Denver yard. The Lancer Ralliart wasn't anywhere near as fast and crazy as its Evolution sibling, but (compared to the base Lancer) it came with more power, bigger brakes, stiffer suspension, better steering, and bucket seats sourced from the JDM Evolution GTA. List price was $18,572 (about $26,110 today), far cheaper than the $29,999 ($42,175 today) Evo VIII. The regular Lancer sedan had an unimpressive 120 horses from its 2.0-liter engine in 2004, while the Lancer Ralliart got this 162-horse MIVEC 2.4. Just in case you were wondering, MIVEC stands for Mitsubishi Innovative Valve-Timing-and-Lift Electronic Control, which doesn't sound as cool as VTEC, but at least seems more convincing than Daewoo's D-TEC. Nearly every O-Z Rally Lancer I see has an automatic transmission, but this Ralliart rolled out of the showroom with a genuine 5-speed manual and Evo shifter. The Japan-market front seats are a bit racier than the ordinary Lancer's, too. Though it is a Colorado car and drivers here think they need AWD to navigate a quarter-inch of snow in the supermarket parking lot, it lacks the all-wheel-drive system that went on the Evo. What more do you want for $18,572? I'm a bit surprised that some local Lancer owner didn't snag the factory strut-tower brace immediately, but I'll bet someone buys this part before the car gets crushed. Mitsubishi still wants to bolster US sedan lineup, investigating options

Wed, Feb 4 2015

Mitsubishi looked healthy in 2014 with a nice sales boost for the year, but so far 2015 hasn't been quite so pleasant with news of product delays or outright cancelations. The Japanese brand isn't letting the setbacks get it down, though, and is still planning for the future. Perhaps the biggest recent disappointment was that Mitsubishi and the Renault-Nissan Alliance scuttled plans to bring a South Korean-built, midsize sedan to the US under Mitsu's branding. The scheme was first announced in late 2013 and would have given the Japanese automaker a replacement for the long-retired Galant. According to Automotive News, the decision came because high exchange rates with the Korean won and Japanese yen against the US dollar made the Asian-built vehicle too costly. Mitsubishi isn't throwing in the towel on the possibility of a larger four-door in the US, just yet. One solution might be retooling the company's US factory in Normal, IL. According to Automotive News, the plant current exports over half of the Outlander Sport units that it builds. That capacity could switch to a new sedan, some of which could also be for shipment abroad. The Outlander Plug-in Hybrid is also being delayed until the second quarter of 2015 in the US. The electrified crossover has proven popular in other markets but has seen multiple postponements in going on sale here. In the meantime, there are a few new products coming down the line. The Mirage Sedan is eventually launching in the US, and the Lancer is reportedly getting a refresh soon.
