Green 2003 Mini Cooper on 2040-cars
Sebastian, Florida, United States
2003 Mini Cooper classic 2 door. British Racing Green color. Only two owners! My parents purchased it new when the Mini first came out. They had it special ordered and then they gave it to me in 2004. It has been an excellent car; fun to drive; relatively low maintenance; and few mechanical break-downs given the mileage. The power window mechanisms have been replaced. The power steering pump has been replaced. All four (4) run-flat tires are in good condition. It has all power windows and power moon-roof; factory Harmon-Kardon premium sound system; all four (4) factory floor mats; and two key FOBs with remote "air out" mode that automatically roll down the windows and open the moon roof. The full leather seats are in excellent condition for the age of the vehicle and it has a two mode transmission (automatic and manual "sport mode"). The paint is discolored on the passenger side (like bubbling under the clear coat) and appears to be fading a little more on the hatch. The headliner has come loose on the passenger side and the rear ceiling light cover is missing. Both windows are susceptible to some leakage at the top of the window near the seal with rain or if you take the car through an automated car wash. The vehicle has only been in two minor accidents; both were years ago. Only cosmetic damage resulted and it was repaired after the accidents. The check engine light came on recently. I had it checked by a mechanic and was told that a sensor unique to Minis needed to be replaced and that it could only be replaced at a Mini dealership (a long drive from me). I did not have it replaced because I knew that I was going to sell the car soon. The mechanic could not find anything else wrong with the vehicle. The vehicle is sold "AS IS". Cash purchase only. Pick up only-located in Sebastian, FL. No returns or refunds. Descriptions and information are provided in good faith but should not be taken as warranties of fitness or condition. Please call my husband, Kevin at (772) 321-9465 for more information. |

BMW looking to save billions with cost cuts
Wed, 18 Jun 2014BMW is planning a fairly extensive overhaul in a bid to recoup some its annual costs, with CEO Norbert Reithofer (pictured above) aiming to save three to four billion euro ($4 to $5.4 billion) per year to help keep the company's profit margins between eight and 10 percent, while also maintaining investments in production expansion and new tech. BMW's profit margins sat at 9.4 percent in 2013.
According to Automotive News Europe, Reithofer is none too pleased about costs at Mini and on the 1 Series, although neither AN nor its source story, from Germany's Manager Magazin, elaborate on what steps could be taken to improve losses on either project. That makes it hard to figure out just where the fat will be trimmed from.
What may happen, though, is that BMW attempts to trim 100 million euros ($135 million) from its German labor costs each year; a solution hinted at a few weeks ago by Germany newspaper Muenchner Merkur. While a dramatic cost reduction, 100 million euros still doesn't begin to even approach the savings envisioned by Reithofer.
Automotive April Fools' joke roundup [w/videos]
Mon, 01 Apr 2013Happy April, everyone. And we all know what this first day of the month means: April Fools' Day. Today is a national holiday for pranksters with the Internet acting as a serious enabler, and it's always fun to see what kind of vivid imaginations exist out there in the automotive world. The abundance of fake news gets a little old as the day rolls on, but we did manage to get in a few chuckles thanks to a handful of major automakers and automotive news outlets that got into the pranking spirit this year
Some of our favorites this year includes Subaru showing what happens when you combine a bunch of rumors, a Corvette some may have already thought was a joke or Honda providing some in-car innovation circa the late 1980s. Honestly, we're still waiting for official confirmation from Mitsubishi that the recently introduced 2014 Mirage is an elaborate April Fools' joke using a failed design intended for the 1995 Geo Metro. We dug up as much "official" OEM foolishness we could find, as well as some of our other favorites, and posted them all below.
2015 Mini John Cooper Works Hardtop First Drive [w/video]
Tue, Jul 28 2015In its previous iteration, the Mini John Cooper Works three-door was a bad little mother. It looked like an engorged puffer fish facing down a shark, sounded like squadron of hornets with even the tiniest provocation of the throttle, and turned corners like it was angry at them. It was hard riding and ill mannered in all sorts of daily driving situations, but supremely satisfying when used in the all-out-attack mode for which it was designed. I dug every minute I spent in one, when really concentrating on driving. (As a commuter or passenger, not so much.) It only took fifteen minutes of driving on the lilting, tree-lined roads outside of New Haven, CT, to realize that the 2015 Mini JCW Hardtop was a lot less pissed off. And with more power, refined ride quality, a better interior, and an available automatic transmission, a lot more suitable for a wide variety of drivers. The little hellion has matured. On that grownup tip, the first of the many '15 JCWs I sampled was fitted with a six-speed automatic transmission. Cue collective shocked gasp. I'll forgive you if you didn't know an auto was going to be available equipment on the JCW, as Mini product planners had to remind me that it had been offered for the first time on the model-year 2013 car. Even then, the manual trans saw an impressive 75-percent take rate, so it's not as if many of the auto-shifters made it to the street. That could change in this new generation, where the 6AT acquits itself quite well. Wheel-mounted paddles offer near immediate response to requested shifts, and programming for the sport setting causes gears to be held up to the top of the tach. The manual is far more engaging, even if the automatic is quicker than the human hand. The six-speed Getrag manual transmission is still the better option, even the car is two-tenths of a second slower to 60 miles per hour with it (6.1 vs. 5.9 seconds), and less fuel efficient in the city (23 vs. 25 miles per gallon). The manual uses a long-levered shifter that still feels positive going between gates, and a short-travel clutch that's got nice weight and an easy catch point. It also offers defeatable rev matching, smoothing out even very aggro downshifts. Mini measures the manual as slower than the auto, but I had a lot more fun using it to harness the increased power of the 2.0-liter turbo four-cylinder engine.
