Condition: UsedA vehicle is considered used if it has been registered and issued a title. Used vehicles have had at least one previous owner. The condition of the exterior, interior and engine can vary depending on the vehicle's history. See the seller's listing for full details and description of any imperfections.Seller Notes:"She's an oldie but a goodie! Fairly good condition, just some minor imperfections here and there. As the pictures show, there are a few body flaws: clear coat cracked/missing on front hood and bumper, small rust spots on hood and side, and shallow scratches. Mechanical defects are at a minimum, since we've been focusing on fixing the essentials as needed for a safe and comfortable ride. Some "wearable" parts may need replacing, but no major repair is necessary."

This Sable is a clean, well-maintained vehicle. It's a smooth and steady ride in a comfortable, smoke-free interior. Despite being old, she still has a lot of life left in her and is very reliable. Many major repairs have been performed within the past few years by a reputable group of mechanics, so no major work should be required for the foreseeable future!! Good to go! Recently replaced parts include items from the engine, exhaust system, brake/wheel systems, and suspension. (All calipers, sway bars, 2 rotors, brake pad with lifetime warranty, brake lines, shock/strut, master cylinder, lower ball joint, alignment, Interstate battery, etc.) The transmission was also rebuilt a few years ago. We will provide exhaustive maintenance/repair records to the buyer, so that you may use them for reference with your own mechanic (and warranty information on covered parts).

Extra features added include front fog lights and rear spoiler. I inherited this car from my grandmother, and she was very easy on it. She didn't drive it long distances and definitely didn't race with it, so that's why it only has 130k miles despite being a 1997 model. However, it's been driven long distances once in a while (100 miles at a time or more) and does do well with those conditions also. It's been fairly dependable over the several years my wife and I have owned it. We are getting rid of it because we finally saved up enough to upgrade to a sportier car. But this Sable still has years and many miles to go before it quits!!
The registration and inspection expired this month, so that will need to be done. It needs to be out of our lot very soon, as we live in an apartment complex and they do not tolerate stationary vehicles sitting around. No reasonable offer will be refused! We will accept cash or bank check (no personal checks, please) up front.

eBay Find of the Day: Mercury Marauder two-door convertible

Wed, 31 Aug 2011

Never underestimate what you'll see on eBay Motors. Take this unique creation, for example. Near as we can tell, it's the same 2002 Mercury Marauder that was modified into a two-door convertible by Ford for the 2002 Chicago Auto Show. According to the seller, this car still boasts its Eaton supercharger bolted to a 4.6-liter V8 engine, and at the time of its debut, the engine was rated at a lofty 335 horsepower. We have a hard time believing that the extra ponies would do much to offset the weight of the additional frame stiffeners and top mechanism on the car, however.
The vehicle is currently offered for sale by a dealer in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, though the listing is mum on how the convertible managed to make its way from Ford's Windy City show stand into the seller's inventory. If you like what you see, the machine can be yours for the princely sum of $75,000 or best offer. Head over to eBay Motors to take a gander at the listing.

Translogic drives wood-burning Mercury Beaver XR-7

Sun, 31 Jul 2011

You read the title right, we're talking about the Mercury Beaver XR-7. No, Mercury never officially built a car called the beaver. This is the brainchild of upstate New Yorker Chip Beam, who owns and operates Beaver Energy, LLC. It runs on gases created by wood pellets fermented in a 2,400-degree furnace and fed to a supercharged Ford 4.6-liter V8.
By all accounts, it gets down the road just fine, and has pretty close to full power. The best part is, you can grow the fuel yourself and avoid patronizing big oil, if that's your thing. The only drawback that we can see to the Mercury Beaver XR-7 is the PVC pipe jungle occupying the space that would be the trunk under normal circumstances.
Still, if you're willing to smell like a mountain man and look like a bad Back to the Future knockoff, this ride is right up your alley. Click past the jump to see Translogic's take on this modified Merc.

Fitting Retirement: Grand Marquis last Mercury off the line

Wed, 05 Jan 2011

The signs have come down and retail production ended back in October of 2010. Now, the very last Mercury model has rolled off the assembly line. This last Mercury somewhat fittingly takes the form of a Grand Marquis reporting for fleet duty. It was built at the St. Thomas plant in Ontario, Canada, which is the same facility that continues to produce the Ford Crown Victoria and Lincoln Town Car for fleet and livery duty.
St. Thomas' days are numbered, however, as the factory is slated to close on August 31. When it goes, the Panther platform is likely to follow. So long, and thanks for all the fish memories.
