Up for auction is a 2004 Mercury Mountaineer Premier. This vehice is loaded with features and is the top model. It's in great condition inside and out. Just had it cleaned and it looks great. No check engine light.The ABS light has come on in the past but goes out. Last time it came on was about three weeks ago, and then the next time I started it, the light wasn't on any longer. The truck makes a clicking/clunk/rubbing noise on turns. I managed to live with it for the past year. It is currently registered, insured and is one of my daily drivers. I brought it to the Dealer to get the noise checked out and they told me it was a CV joint. I was quoted about $400 to have it fixed but never had the extra money to put into it. I purchased something bigger and I no longer need this vehicle. It runs and drives and gets me to where I need to go on a daily basis. However the noise is starting to get louder. Again, I've lived with it this long, and I'm not really selling it because of the fact that it makes noise, but more-so because I already made a new purchase and no longer need this vehicle. AC works great, heat works great, doesn't get stuck in the snow. Always serviced at the dealership, just did an oil change about 800 miles ago. But for most mere mortals, scrounging up the cash for a physics-bending piece of 16-cylinder glory would require all sorts of unpalatable tasks. Fortunately for those who want to look the part without having to participate in human trafficking, the kit car universe has stepped in to save the day. All you need is a 1999-2002 Mercury Cougar, a boat load of fiberglass and a little patience.
Oh, and $89,000.
Report: Last Mercury for retail business built on Sunday
Mon, 04 Oct 2010Ford is already well into winding down its Mercury line, and the autoamker has announced that the very last of the soon-to-be dead brand's products built for retail sales was manufactured on Sunday, October 3. The final Mercury Mariner rolled off of the assembly line at the company's Kansas City facility, putting an end to a brand with over 70 years of history behind it.
Even after the Mariner heads off into the automotive sunset, Ford says that it will continue to manufacture a handful of Mercury models for fleet and government service for a while longer, though mum's the word on how long we can expect that practice to continue.
Interestingly enough, according to USA Today, most incentives on Mercury vehicles have all but dried up, even as the brand's August production increased by 120 percent compared to July's figures. Instead of cash on the hood, some areas are offering no-cost maintenance or similar programs. Even so, Mercury has continued to out-sell Lincoln right to the end - besting Ford's luxury arm's sales by nine percent in August.
Ford Recalling 70k Escape and Mariner Hybrids for cooling issue
Fri, 12 Sep 2014Ford is recalling about 70,209 examples of the 2005-2008 Ford Escape Hybrid and the 2006-2008 Mercury Mariner Hybrid because the cooling pumps for their hybrid systems could fail.
According to the company's defect notice, it's possible for the original "Motor Electronics Coolant (MEC) Pump" to wear out and fail, which would could cause the hybrid system to overheat. If this happens, the vehicle goes into a safety mode that takes away most or all of its power. However, braking and steering still operate normally. After cooling down, the affected models restart normally. The company says that it's not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this problem.
Ford will begin repairing the vehicles in late October, and dealers will be installing improved, brushless pumps on the affected models at no charge to owners. If drivers had their pumps fail before this recall, they can contact Ford for a possible reimbursement.
