Mercury 1972 Cougar Xr7 Convertible 351-4v Cobrajet on 2040-cars
Lake Elsinore, California, United States
We purchased this car with the intention of having it restored from a "Number 1" car to a "Show Trailer Queen" with the intention of taking her on the Show Circuit. We had the car shipped closed container and several days after it arrived we took it to a body shop for Full Show Restoration. Then the bomb dropped on us, we were called by local police who found all cars in that particular body shop stripped and abandoned. We got our car back with an additional 1200 miles on her (the thief got to enjoy her more than we did)!, and as you can see from the pictures the car has had all the brightwork stripped off, the lights are missing, the front fender passenger side has been dented and the front drivers side seat has a tear in the leather (very repairable to keep original), all other seats are still in perfect condition, the convertible top is brand new and has a rear glass window. The boot to cover the top when down is in perfect condition as well. We have shown you the before and after pictures so you can see what this car is capable to looking like, she is a real beauty and sounds awesome with the loud grumbling of the glass packs. We just dont have the heart to begin the restoration process again. The car is stored in our garage. |

NHTSA closes probes on Jeep Grand Cherokee, Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey
Wed, 09 Jan 2013The Detroit News reports the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has officially closed its investigations into 2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 2004-2005 Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey models. The separate probes found no issues that pose safety concerns. NHTSA began investigating certain Grand Cherokee SUVs over complaints that power steering hoses could detach during operation, thereby increasing the risk of a vehicle fire. Of the 24 reports of failure, none alleged smoke or fire in the engine bay, and Chrysler has since modified the power steering cooler assembly to reduce the likelihood of the failure.
Meanwhile, certain Ford Freestar and Mercury Monterey vehicles garnered a government probe after receiving complaints that the models were equipped with faulty scissor jacks. The agency had received six reports of the jacks failing or causing injuries, including one incident that resulted in a fatality. But NHTSA says the jack failure rate is similar to those found in other vehicles. In those six cases, the government agency found the jacks were being used for something other than changing a tire, and investigators could not determine whether the emergency brake was set or the rear tires were properly chocked.

It's not been a great couple of weeks for Ford. On October 30, the company announced a 205,000-unit recall, and yesterday, it was revealed that the Ford brand's year-over-year sales were down over 5,000 units while the company itself was down 3,000 units over through October. Now, the company has announced five separate recalls affecting 202,000 vehicles built between 2005 and 2014.

If you've got a pulse in your wrist and a snapping brain cell in your head, chances are you wouldn't mind parking a Bugatti Veyron in your garage. But for most mere mortals, scrounging up the cash for a physics-bending piece of 16-cylinder glory would require all sorts of unpalatable tasks. Fortunately for those who want to look the part without having to participate in human trafficking, the kit car universe has stepped in to save the day. All you need is a 1999-2002 Mercury Cougar, a boat load of fiberglass and a little patience.
Oh, and $89,000.
