1974 Cougar Xr7 351cj C6 3.25 Traction Loc on 2040-cars
Utica, Michigan, United States
Up for auction is my 1974 Mercury Cougar XR7. It's powered by it's FACTORY ORIGINAL 351 Cobra Jet and backed by by it's original C6 automatic transmission. Out back is has its original 3.25 gears traction lock 9" rear end. It comes equipped with Power steering, Power brakes, Air Conditioning (YES, IT WORKS), rear window defrost, AM/FM stereo radio, Magnum 500 wheels and a rim blow steering wheel. It was ordered with white bucket seat interior with floor shift and console. The XR7's received the rally dash which consisted of Tachometer, Speedometer, fuel, oil pressure, water temp and amp gauges along with a clock.EVERYTHING on this car, with exception of he clock, WORKS. I purchased this car from the original owner who ordered it while he was stationed in Maryland while in the Navy 1974. It spent from Jan 1974- Mar 1975 Hollywood, MD. Mar 1975- Oct 1977 at Seaside, CA. Oct 1977- Oct 1979 at Neptune Beach, FL. Oct 1979-Mar 1987 at California, MD. Mar 1987- Sep 1993 at Lorton, VA. and finally Sep 1993- Dec 2013 in St. Augustine, FL. I still have the original 1974 Florida title, window sticker, all the factory paperwork that comes in the glovebox when new, owners manual, owner warranty card, keys with key code tag. I have the original registration paper for the car along with all registrations from 1980 on up, 1974 Mercury sales brochure along with the 1974 color chart. I also have various paperwork from parts purchases and repair work although nothing major has ever been done to the car.
ENGINE/DRIVETRAIN - Original 351 Cobra Jet engine from air cleaner to oil pan including the original carburetor with the tag still intact. The original owner did tell me that the heads have been off to do valve stem seals and when this was done it was found that the guides were slightly worn so the heads received new valve guides and one piece stainless valves, The engine runs very well and pulls strong. It still has its original full length dual exhaust, the mufflers look to be recent. It sounds good and has a nice tone but isn't overly loud. It doesn't smoke, leak, tick or knock nor does it run hot.
The transmission is the original C6 to the car and shifts great. It goes into all gears without hesitation, it doesn't slip and produces a nice bark at the rear tires on the 1-2 shift.
The rear end is still the original 3.25 traction loc differential that was installed in the car on the assembly line. Traction lock works well. The parking brake also functions properly. Tire have plenty of tread but I think it just begs for some white letter tires. The brakes work FANTASTIC. The car still rides on its original painted Magnum 500's with trims rings and all center caps intact, even all the original lugnuts.
INTERIOR - The bucket seat interior is in good shape. The original carpet shows nicely, the dashboard isn't all busted/cracked, the dash pad is mint all the gauges work. All of the dash lights work. The ashtray looks like it has NEVER had a cigarette in it. No rips or tears in the headliner, all windows go up and down like new, door locks work, interior lights/map lights work. The only flaws in the interior are two cracks in the vinyl of the drivers side door panel and a couple small splits at the seams in the driver's seat bottom. All seat belts are accounted for and fully functional. The console is in very nice shape, no cracks and still has the removable storage bin inside and the interior light in the console does work. The heater/Air conditioning functions as it should (cold A/C and "roast you out of the car" heat), the radio and all four speakers work.
BODY - The body still wears its original paint and vinyl top. It has never been in an accident. Being that it's 40 years old, the paint isn't perfect as it has some nicks, scratches, chips and a couple of small dings. The only rust on the car the the lower, inner corners of the doors at the very rear of the door. Everything else is solid as a rock, the underside of the car is beautiful as is the trunk. Speaking of the trunk, it still retains its original bumper jack and lug wrench along with its ORIGINAL spare Magnum 500 wheel and tire. This is DEFINITELY NOT your typical rust belt car. The hood, doors and trunk open and close nicely, nothing sags. All of the trim is in nice shape and the chrome looks good too. There are no cracks or chips in the glass, the rear defrost does work as do the wipers and windshield washers. ALL lights work, marker, brake, turn signal hazards and headlamps.
All in all its a nice, driver quality, classic car that has been well cared for and hasn't had the snot beat out of it. It runs and drives well, it rides very nice down the road and is very comfortable at speed on the highway. I've had a few friends ride in it and they have all commented on how nice the car rides and how comfortable it is. It away's draws lookers wherever it goes and that white interior just makes it POP.
The car is located in Shelby Township, MI. I encourage you to check it out in person prior to bidding, you wont be disappointed. You could literally fly in and drive this car home. The car comes with a nice, custom fit car cover. The original owner also keep the original pieces of anything he swapped out with a replacement part and it all goes with the car. With all that being said, it is still a 40 year old car and is sold as is, where it is. I haven't had a single issue with the car and I don't foresee that anyone else would either. Transport cost and scheduling is the sole responsibility of the winning bidder. I WILL work with your transporter but they also must work with my work schedule. The vehicle may stay here for 14 days after payment, I will keep it in the garage as long as I can. I have sold and sent a few vehicles to different states and have sent two over to the UK with no complaints about what was purchased.
Apologies for the haphazard order of the pictures. You can thank Ebay's awesome tech support for fixing the pictures editing so that you CAN;T edit them.. Also, email for a link for a photobucket album with many more pictures as they now NO LONGER will allow links oF photobucket albums and still limit your pictures to 24. |

New Forza 6 car pack will let you race the Pontiac Aztek
Fri, Jan 29 2016Just in time for this weekend's Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona, the new Alpinestars Car Pack for Forza Motorsport 6 on the Xbox One lets you slip into the driver's seat of last year's winner. If you want to take something much weirder for a spin, the collection also includes a 2005 Pontiac Aztek. The download is available now for $6.99. The Ford #02 Chip Ganassi Racing Riley Mk XXVI Daytona was in a four-car battle early in last year's race, but it eventually was victorious. Forza Motorsport 6 also challenges drivers who download the car to a new Rivals event around Daytona, and the fastest people could win Alpinestars prizes. If you're nostalgic for a classic Daytona racecar, this pack includes Mercury #15 Whistler Radar Cougar XR-7. The V8-powered beast won the IMSA GTO class in the 24-hour event in 1990. It should be fun around the game's longer road courses like Road Atlanta. This collection also has an eclectic mix of vehicles that aren't racecars. The controversial Aztek and the equally-controversial 1996 Subaru SVX take their places beside a lineup that offers drivers three eras of performance cars – a 1967 Sunbeam Tiger, 1974 Toyota Corolla SR5, and 1992 Alfa Romeo Milano Quadrifoglio Verde. The video below shows all of them in action. Race to the Finish Line with the Alpinestars Car Pack for Forza Motorsport 6 By Xbox Wire Staff posted on January 27, 2016 at 8:00 am With the racing season set to kick into full gear during this weekend's Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona race, Forza fans now have a chance to get their own taste of endurance racing glory with the Alpinestars Car Pack for Forza Motorsport 6, available on Thursday, Jan. 28. Leading off the pack of seven cars is last year's 24 Hours of Daytona winner, the 2015 Ford #02 Chip Ganassi Racing Riley Mk XXVI Daytona Prototype. The prototype will be fielded in this weekend's race, which begins at 2 p.m. EST on Saturday, Jan. 30 and can be viewed live on Fox Sports 1 in the U.S. The Alpinestars Car Pack features six additional cars, each with a unique pedigree all its own. From the 1990 Mercury #15 Whistler Radar Cougar XR-7 – also a competitor in Daytona 24 Hour events of years past – to the inimitable 2005 Pontiac Aztek (famous more for its fictional owner than its performance), this pack has something for every kind of car fan. Forza Motorsport 6 is the only game where players can drive last year's Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona winner on the recently remodeled Daytona International Speedway.
Junkyard Gem: 1979 Mercury Marquis 2-Door Sedan
Sun, Jul 25 2021As the creator of the now-much-overused term "Malaise Era" (which I say started in 1973 and ended in 1983, full stop), I have a certain affection for the big two-door Detroit cars of the late 1970s. When such a car is built on the very first model year of Ford's long-lived Panther platform and I find one in a junkyard, I must document it. The 1979 Mercury Marquis is such a car, and this one was found in a San Francisco Bay Area self-service yard last month. Since Ford built the Grand Marquis all the way through the demise of the Panther platform— and Mercury itself— in 2011, it's easy for us to forget that the model name started out as just the plain old Marquis, back in the 1967 model year, with the Grand appellation used for the car's top trim level. While today's Junkyard Gem has some of the features of the Grand Marquis and Marquis Brougham trim levels for 1979 (notably the padded vinyl landau roof and power windows), it lacks the huge chrome lower-body moldings of those cars. Instead, it's a regular Marquis 2-door sedan with a big load of expensive options. That landau roof has suffered greatly from its decades beneath the vinyl-disintegrating California sun. The Panther platform was a big technological upgrade from the late-1950s-vintage chassis technology of full-sized Fords of the 1960s and 1970s, and it stayed in front-line service in much the same form through 2011. Though its ride and handling were much improved, the 1979 Marquis was quite a bit smaller than its predecessors, and that caused some grumbling among Mercury shoppers. Some ham-handed junkyard shoppers really tore up the interior of this car while extracting a few bits and pieces, but we can still admire the Pine Green pleather of the glorious Twin Comfort Lounge front seats. You had two engine choices when buying a new '79 Marquis: the base 302-cubic-inch (5.0-liter) Windsor V8 making 129 horsepower or the optional 351-cubic-inch (5.8-liter) Windsor V8 rated at 138 horsepower. This one appears to be the 351, the same engine as had been swapped into the pizza-delivery Mercury I drove in the middle 1980s. New cars sold in California around this time had these giant emissions-numbers stickers on the side glass. Later, they went on the underside of the hood.
Ford Announces Free Brake-Pad Offer If Customers Stop By Dealers
Mon, Aug 4 2014These days, when you buy a new car, it's not unreasonable to expect a certain period of free maintenance to come along as well. Sometimes this is through the life of the warranty, in other cases a little less. But Ford Motor Company is going beyond those deals for at least one part of its cars. As of now, if you buy a set of Motorcraft brake pads for a Ford, Lincoln or Mercury model, you get free replacements for as long as you own the vehicle. The offer is good at Ford or Lincoln dealers and Quick Lane Tire & Auto Centers. "We will replace the pads for as long as you own the vehicle," said Elizabeth Weigandt to Autoblog. She did clarify that the Motorcraft pads are generally for models from the '90s or newer. Also, to take advantage of this program, a person must return to the same dealer each time to get the free parts. Of course, Ford isn't just handing out brake pads to anyone who walks by; there are certain stipulations. First, the components have to be worn down to less than three millimeters to be eligible, and the buyer still has to pay for the labor to install them. If the model is used as a fleet vehicle for commercial purposes like as a taxi or limousine, this offer also doesn't apply; the same thing for racecars. On the plus side, if you recently bought a set of pads from one of the participating locations, you're still in luck. The deal covers parts purchased as of July 1. "This program reflects our commitment to providing customers with an excellent ownership experience regardless of the age of their vehicle," said Frederiek Toney, President of Ford Customer Service, in the company's announcement of the offer.
