Please Read Carefully--- I have for sale my 1970 Mercury Cougar Eliminator An original Q-Code 428 Ram Air Cobra Jet and automatic transmission----- This is a rebody ---Surviving the crusher--- Car now has a good running Hi - Performance 390 4V (which is identical to the 428 engine) and C-6 Automatic transmission, but does need to be hooked up in the car, I was moving and had to set motor/trans in the car. The original color of the car is the Competition Orange, a beautiful eye catching color for the car with the graphics on it.----  I have in pics the copy of the MARTI REPORT that shows options and the "Eliminator" package. Body on car is in real nice condition, front floor pans excellent and rears only have a couple of bad spots. Have installed new driver side rear wheel lip and lower quarter section. Car comes with the original Eliminator Hood Scoop and has the rear spoiler also, does look to have the shorter stands (mounts) on it. Seats are in car and good but do need recovering. It also has a center console. Options include Power Steering and Power Brakes and Factory Air Conditioning and center console. Have old pic of dash but it was removed for painting as well as all chrome windshield molding. Has a  nice set of chrome factory GT wheels with centers and has the 9" rear end. Have pic that shows trunk hinges and door hinges that are the Competition Orange from the original car and quarter section that still shows the original Eliminator decal. I do have bumpers for the car but new ones would be recommended for restoring the car. This is an easy restoration and this car is one of about------ 177 made---- With this engine and transmission,.. Again, This is a VERY RARE Car. Also pictured is the "walking cat" emblem which goes on the gas tank door. And has the original steering box and rear leaf springs which are unique to the Eliminator. NHTSA investigating Ford's solution to May 2014 power steering recall

Tue, Apr 7 2015

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is investigating a complaint that Ford's response to a May 2014 recall of the 2008 to 2011 Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner doesn't quite go far enough to solve a troubling power-steering problem. Roughly a year ago, Ford recalled nearly a million vehicles after it was found that a problem with the torque sensor's communication with the power steering control module could cut steering assistance for drivers. While manual steering would still be available, the problem was enough to ask drivers to report in to have the PSCM inspected, and if necessary, replaced (along with the torque sensor, or in dramatic cases, the entire steering column). That would only happen, though, if trouble codes were being thrown. If there weren't any problems, dealers were told to simply update the PSCM's software so that any issues between it and the torque sensor would simply throw a visual and audio warning – power steering would still be maintained. The petitioner claimed that following the recall work, he still experienced a problem with the torque sensor. According to NHTSA, a claim was made that Ford didn't go far enough in its solution to the problem, and that "the software update itself may in fact cause further issues with the affected vehicle's power steering, causing it to fail, and ultimately requiring replacement of the torque sensor or entire steering column." The petition was filed in early February and is now officially being looked into by NHTSA.

Ford announces bevy of recalls, 2 of which are recalls on recalls

Tue, 04 Nov 2014

Ford has announced five separate recalls, affecting 202,000 vehicles built between 2005 and 2014.
It's not been a great couple of weeks for Ford. On October 30, the company announced a 205,000-unit recall, and yesterday, it was revealed that the Ford brand's year-over-year sales were down over 5,000 units while the company itself was down 3,000 units over through October. Now, the company has announced five separate recalls affecting 202,000 vehicles built between 2005 and 2014.

NHTSA and Ford investigating steering issues in Crown Vic, Grand Marquis and Marauder

Fri, 11 Jul 2014

There may be more steering woes for the Ford Crown Victoria. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened a preliminary evaluation into the Crown Vic and Mercury Grand Marquis from the 2004 to 2007 model years and the Mercury Marauder for the 2004 and 2005 model years because the steering shaft can jam. The issue could potentially affect an estimated 500,000 vehicles.
According to the regulator, there is a possibility that the driver's side heat shield for the exhaust manifold can rust, dislodge, and then wedge into the steering shaft. If this occurs, it leads to a situation where the driver can no longer control the car.
NHTSA has received five complaints of this happening, including one alleged case with an injury. In that situation, the car was driving onto the highway, lost control and rolled over. One occupant was hurt in the accident.
