This Cougar was ordered & purchased from Sunland Mercury in Glendale Arizona on June 23, 1968 and has lived its
entire life in dry sunny Phoenix, Arizona until I purchased it from the original owner in June of 2014. The car was
driven daily and have all records from purchase date as well. The engine is the "X code" 390 2bl with a C-6
Merc-O-matic transmission, Power Steering, Power Disc Brakes, Ice cold Whisper-Aire A/C with tinted glass and comes
with the original AM-FM stereo radio. It did have one repaint in 1997 and shows very well for it's age. There are a
few blemishes in the paint, but very nice driver-local car show quality paint. The car drives down the interstate
at 80 mph with no issues, headlight lids work as they should, has the updated sequential turn signal box with the
plasma LED bulbs installed. Numbers matching engine, heads and transmission are all original to the car. Original
275 rear end gears still in car. Front end is tight with new power steering cylinder and hoses, ball joints, tie
rod ends and drives straight. Engine was recently rebuilt with Comp thumper cam kit, sounds great when cruising to
car shows. Recently rebuilt the C-6 transmission, both having less than 1000 miles since done. Chrome bumpers
appear to be original and still show very well with no pitting in the corners as well as the driver's side mirror
looks great. The quarter window chrome is as nice as new, no pitting or blemishes. Brand new chrome magnum 500
wheels wrapped in BFG radials. Car comes with Original order sheet, Original window sticker and also have the
Arizona title and envelope that was mailed to the original owner on August 19, 1968. When rebuilding the engine, I
installed an original "S code" 4bl cast intake (original 2bl intake is included in the sale). Has a brand new
Holley 600 4bl carb installed with working choke. New window and door panel rubber seals & fuzzies. Rocker panel
moldings are nice driver quality with a few nicks & blemishes. The drivers seat is the most warn in the interior,
has had some cracks repaired, but still looks decent. The head liner is very nice and still tight. The dash pad is
straight and there is a small crack near the speaker. There are a few dings in the stainless trim around the
windshield. The console is nice and the light on the back of it works too. New gas tank & sending unit & gas guage
works. Also included in the sale is the "S tube" that comes off the underside of the air cleaner to the manifold.
This car is fun to drive, gets lots of thumbs up and still shows the 19 year old Grecian Gold paint pretty darn
well. All the lights in the interior work and so do the toggle switches on the wood grain dash. The only thing that
does not work is the console clock, I never checked it to see why. Wipers and foot pedal work as they should as
does the heater and blower motor on all speeds. The trunk pictures show rust, but I assure you it is a surface
powder like from being trapped under the mat. No rust in trunk or any other place on this dry climate car.
It is not very often you will come across a RUST FREE, Big Block, Auto with A/C of this caliber without having to
do a bunch of work before enjoying it. Many of you may know, it cost more to build one than to buy one already
ready to enjoy. This car is ready for a trip or any cruise that you desire.

Ford announces two recalls, 442k vehicles affected in North America
Wed, May 27 2015Ford is announcing two recalls for North American that affect a total of 442,300 vehicles and multiple model lines. The larger campaign covers the possibility of electric power steering systems that can fail in the 2011-2013 Ford Flex, Taurus, Lincoln MKS, and MKT; the 2011-2012 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ; and the 2011 Mercury Milan. This recall affects 422,814 vehicles in North America, including 393,622 in the United States, 25,195 in Canada, and 3,997 in Mexico. According to the company, an intermittent electrical connection can cause the power steering to cut out, although manual steering would still work. Ford knows of four minor accidents from this issue, but there are no injuries. Depending on trouble codes from the vehicle, dealers will either upgrade software for the power steering control module or replace the steering gear. The second recall covers 19,486 examples of the 2015 Ford Mustang with the 2.3-liter EcoBoost turbocharged four-cylinder engine with a production date between February 14, 2014, and February 10, 2015 at the Flat Rock Assembly Plant. Specifically, there are 19,095 of these in the US and 391 in Canada. These pony cars can show elevated underbody temperatures, which can lead to degradation of the fuel tank, fuel vapor lines, and parking brake cable seals. There are no reports of accidents, injuries or fires from this, though. To fix things, dealers will install a better-insulated fuel tank shield, add thermal patches around the tank and parking brake cable, and put thermal wraps around the fuel vapor lines. You can read the specific build dates and locations for the models affected by the power steering issue in Ford's press release below the video. Ford recalls 300,000 Crown Vics over lighting module
Wed, Dec 23 2015The Basics: Ford is recalling 312,814 units of the Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis sedans from the 2003-2005 model years. They were built at the St. Thomas Assembly Plant between Oct. 3, 2001, and Aug. 2, 2005. Ford says 296,004 of those units are located in the United States, with another 14,714 in Canada and 2,096 in Mexico. The Problem: The solder joints on the lighting control module could crack, depriving the headlamps of the power they need to light the way ahead. That could increase the risk of a crash, particularly at night and in other low-visibility situations. Injuries/Deaths: Ford reports that it is aware of 11 accidents that resulted from the problem, leading to one injury described as "minor." The Fix: The manufacturer is instructing dealers to replace the entire lighting control module. If You Own One: Make sure your headlights are working before getting under way. If they're not, avoid driving under low-light conditions, including at night, in heavy precipitation, or in fog. NHTSA advances investigation of Ford Crown Victoria headlights
Sat, Aug 15 2015The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is opening a preliminary evaluation into reports of suddenly failing headlights on 517,945 examples of the 2003-2005 Ford Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis. The government started looking into this problem in April when the North Carolina Consumers Council filed a defect petition with the agency. Now, the inquiry has moved to the next step. According to NHTSA's documentation (as a PDF), it examined its own database and worked with Ford to come up with a total of 3,609 complaints of the front lighting control module suddenly failing. When this happens, drivers lose the low-beam headlights, but the high-beams can be used by holding the stalk. Sometimes turning the switch off and on fixes the issue. Additionally, there are 15 allegations of crashes, and one reported shoulder injury. NHTSA's preliminary evaluations "evaluate the scope, frequency, and consequence of the alleged defect" and don't necessarily lead to a recall. NHTSA looked into this problem once before in 2008 and 2009 and decided that a recall wasn't necessary. Ford also extended the warranty on the front lighting control module for these vehicles. INVESTIGATION Subject : Loss of headlights Date Investigation Opened: AUG 10, 2015 Date Investigation Closed: Open NHTSA Action Number: PE15028 Component(s): EXTERIOR LIGHTING All Products Associated with this Investigation Vehicle Make Model Model Year(s) FORD CROWN VICTORIA 2003-2005 MERCURY GRAND MARQUIS 2003-2005 Details Manufacturer: Ford Motor Company SUMMARY: After receiving a defect petition (DP15002) concerning the loss of headlights and other exterior lighting in model year (MY) 2003-2005 Ford Crown Victoria and Mercury Grand Marquis vehicles, the Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) analyzed Vehicle Owner Questionnaire (VOQ) complaints received from consumers and identified a total of 605 reports (for all submission dates) alleging headlight failure. The complaints indicate failures of both low beam headlights typically while driving, a defect condition that was evaluated under a prior ODI investigation (PE08066). Most consumer VOQs indicate that the headlights failed suddenly and without warning leaving the driver with no forward lighting, however some report the headlights flickered or dimmed prior to turning off. In some cases drivers were able to turn the headlights back on after a period of time while others reported the headlights would not come back on at all.
