Considered by most Mercury enthusiasts as the best looking Merc ever made, certainly the best looking Comet, up for sale is a 65 caliente A code, 3 speed merc-o-matic. Original engine, completely rebuilt, top to bottom. Less than 5k miles, built back to factory spec with edelbrock performer intake and holley carb. This car starts right up every time and hauls ass. Dual exhaust with old school cherry bomb mufflers. Transmission and rearend are rebuilt as well. Brand new parts- starter, solenoid, battery, fuel sending unit, brakes, cooper cobra radial tires with about 1500 miles on them and KYB gas-adjust shocks. Professionally installed SSBC front disc brake conversion. Perfect straight bumpers rechromed. All trim is there and in very good condition. Has the rare optional tinted windshield and ultra rare day/night rearview mirror.  Interior redone in 70s style with metallic crushed velvet, red w/ silver trim. Needs dash pad (on ebay for 170 bucks) and driver/passenger armrests ( lost when we moved, if I find them theyre yours) All gauges work properly, Stewart-warner water temp and oil pressure under dash with Sunpro monster tach. Headliner is perfect, no rips or tears, dome light needs chrome ring. Has front air dam and electric backup fan for extra cooling in traffic on hot summer days though ive never had to use it, car runs nice and cool.  Paint has a few chips and minor scratches but very nice overall. Headlights, taillights, turn signals and wipers work great. Horns are there but not hooked up. Missing side view mirror. Passenger front turn signal has minor damage but I have a straight one that goes with car.

What separates this car from the large majority of comets on ebay is the provenance. I am the third owner of this fine automobile, Mr. M bought this car new at Dothan Lincoln Mercury on Jan 22 1965, he lived in Chattahoochee, Fl. Only drove it 13k when in July of 66 he traded it back in at same dealership where Mr. B from Malvern, Al. promptly purchased it a week later and owned for the next 40 plus years. Then it became mine. Original owners manual with this documentation is included with car. Clear title in my name, no games.  I will assist with shipping any way I can and I recommend U-ship.

Straight and solid as any Alabama car would be. All original glass in great shape. Hood and doors shut easy and tight. Deck lid needs minor adjustment as most 65 comets do. Under the hood is super clean and neat. Dash pad is there and has been recovered but is decent, I drive this car 4-5 times a week and its always a pleasure, sounds and runs great. Original radio, not hooked up. Heat and fan works great. Quarters are straight and solid- Original floorboards, car is solid underneath. Trunk is clean and solid as well, Gas tank was cleaned when sending unit was installed.

Im only selling this car because im concentrating my efforts on my 65 cyclone.

Good luck, happy bidding and god bless America.

Junkyard Gem: 1970 Mercury Cougar

Tue, Oct 10 2017

The plot of the Mercury Cougar story took a lot of strange twists and turns during its 35 or so years, from ponycar to immense luxobarge to family sedan to station wagon to Integra competitor. Examples of the first Cougar generation are nearly extinct in American wrecking yards, so I was excited to spot this one in Denver. Lest you shed any tears over this car going to the crusher, know that it was suffering from the ravenous teeth of the Rust Monster long before it got here. The 1967-1970 Cougar was based on the Mustang platform of the same era, and so it was a sleeker and quicker cat than its successors. Still, the longer wheelbase, extra equipment and all the cool-looking bodywork added some heft; the 1970 Mustang hardtop with V8 scaled in at 2,923 pounds, while the 1970 Cougar weighed 3,307 pounds. The current Ford Focus would fit just between those two weights. There was also a mid-cycle refresh in that era, with the '67-'68 and '69-'70 having different exterior styling and interiors. The '69 and '70 had different front end styling as well, with the latter re-adopting the vertical grille slats featured on the earlier model years. The '69 has horizontal slats. The drivetrain and just about everything else of value has been shorn from this car, perhaps before it arrived in this yard. In 1970, a bewildering assortment of V8 engines was available in the Cougar, including a Boss 302, two completely different 351s, and a 335-horse Cobra Jet 428. The base engine was a 351 Windsor making 250 gross horsepower. Since car rooftops mostly don't rust, why would someone cut out this one? Sheet metal needed for patching a leaky shed roof, perhaps? This 2005-2006 Denver Nuggets window sticker indicates that the car was on the street (probably) as recently as 11 years ago. This content is hosted by a third party. Petrolicious shows Mercedes 280SL as architecture in motion

Wed, Jun 17 2015

While still an absolute beauty today, the design of the pagoda-roof W113 Mercedes-Benz SL was revolutionary when it debuted. Moving away from the soft curves of the previous SL models, the all-new generation brought an upright, angular shape that was as much architectural as automotive. In the latest video from Petrolicious, owner and architect Daniel Monti expounds on the inspiration that he gets from his 1969 280SL's fantastic styling. The roof is the most famous design feature of this generation of SL. Look at the top from the front or back, and you can see a gentle, downward arc that evokes the look of a pagoda. That one styling element is also a fabulous counterpoint to a vehicle that is largely more angular than curvaceous. Petrolicious wonderfully illustrates how some of the SL's form-follows-function design aesthetic can be found in the architect's work in this video's heaping helping of mid-century modern goodness.

eBay Find of the Day: Mercury Marauder two-door convertible

Wed, 31 Aug 2011

Never underestimate what you'll see on eBay Motors. Take this unique creation, for example. Near as we can tell, it's the same 2002 Mercury Marauder that was modified into a two-door convertible by Ford for the 2002 Chicago Auto Show. According to the seller, this car still boasts its Eaton supercharger bolted to a 4.6-liter V8 engine, and at the time of its debut, the engine was rated at a lofty 335 horsepower. We have a hard time believing that the extra ponies would do much to offset the weight of the additional frame stiffeners and top mechanism on the car, however.
The vehicle is currently offered for sale by a dealer in Lansdale, Pennsylvania, though the listing is mum on how the convertible managed to make its way from Ford's Windy City show stand into the seller's inventory. If you like what you see, the machine can be yours for the princely sum of $75,000 or best offer. Head over to eBay Motors to take a gander at the listing.
