Offered for sale is my 1962 Mercury Comet. LOW RESERVE! My Comet is an excellent driver quality vintage car with modern mechanical components. 90+ high quality pictures of the Comet are available by clicking the link below

This extremely unique little car has an upgraded 2.3L 4 cylinder engine and a 5 speed manual transmission from a 1993 Ford Ranger. This engine swap combined with the front disc brake conversion kit and open 3.00 8" rear end from a Ford Maverick make this car an extremely reliable, quick and dependable cruiser. I've been averaging around 30MPG on the highway which is pretty unheard of for a 52 year old car that can comfortably drive at 80MPH all day. Seriously this car is one of the most reliable vehicles--vintage or modern--that I have ever owned. Turn the ignition, hit the start button (pictured to the right of the ignition switch) and the car immediately comes to life.  The Comet has a Hooker header and a 2 inch exhaust. The exhaust is not loud & obnoxious nor does it drone on the highway. It does have a nice subtle burble to it.

The Comet drives fantastically. Due to its light weight the 2.3L is plenty of power--especially with the 5 speed--to make this car quite fun to drive and definitely faster than you would think. Thanks to the Scarebird disc brake conversion it also stops like a much more modern car. Additionally the Comet has recent KYB shocks all around and about 8,000 miles on a brand new set of tires. Once you are in motion the car drives nice and straight without any vibration. I've been driving it at least once a week on my 130 mile a day commute ever since the roads have been salt-free. I wouldn't hesitate for a moment to hop in it for a longer trip.

The swap was done around 8,000 miles ago. The previous owner spent a lot of time cleaning up the wiring harness and making it work well for this car and he did a great job. It has an electric fan and two speed intermittent wipers from a Ford F-150 which work awesome. The Heater (including the blower motor) is hooked up, and works great. The in dash lighter has been adapted to work as a horn. This is not a hacked together slapped in engine swap, it's been thought out and refined through a couple owners.

The body of the Comet is very nice and rust-free. This is an extremely extremely solid car, it came up to MA from down south two owners ago and since it has been up here it has been stored every winter protected from road salt. As you can see the flat black is aging but it's nothing a paint-job or re application of flat black couldn't fix. Honestly I kind of like it the way it is. Inside the Comet has Autometer gauges, 65 Mustang bucket seats and three point seat belts. I will include a very nice pair of black 65 Mustang bucket seats I never had the time to swap in with the sale. The rear seat was removed before I owned it and I do not have it. In the interest of full disclosure I should point out that the gas gauge doesn't work but I use the trip odometer to keep track of mileage between fill-ups which works great.

All in all this is a super unique car that you could easily drive as-is or put a little cosmetic work into to your taste and step it up a notch. I've tried to illustrate in detail what a nice little car this Comet is. It kills me to sell it, but I have way too many old cars and I've got to sell something. I have priced this car extremely reasonably and I have no doubt it will sell. It would be nearly impossible to find another vintage car this unique, reliable and fuel efficient for my reserve price.

Please ask any and all questions before bidding. I want whoever buys this car to be happy with it, I have sold several cars on Ebay and the buyers have always been thrilled with their cars. Keep in mind that this is an older modified car that is far from perfect and not a 3 year old Accord. Please examine pictures carefully, they tell the entire story of this car. Please only bid on my Comet if you are serious, it's hard enough to sell this car without adding the element of someone jerking me around about it. I encourage you to come take a look at the car in Brewster, Ma 02631. Car will be transferred with a clear MA title that is in my name. Because of its age the Comet will be sold AS-IS. Thanks for your interest. This Comet has a low reserve so bid to win!

New Forza 6 car pack will let you race the Pontiac Aztek

Fri, Jan 29 2016

Just in time for this weekend's Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona, the new Alpinestars Car Pack for Forza Motorsport 6 on the Xbox One lets you slip into the driver's seat of last year's winner. If you want to take something much weirder for a spin, the collection also includes a 2005 Pontiac Aztek. The download is available now for $6.99. The Ford #02 Chip Ganassi Racing Riley Mk XXVI Daytona was in a four-car battle early in last year's race, but it eventually was victorious. Forza Motorsport 6 also challenges drivers who download the car to a new Rivals event around Daytona, and the fastest people could win Alpinestars prizes. If you're nostalgic for a classic Daytona racecar, this pack includes Mercury #15 Whistler Radar Cougar XR-7. The V8-powered beast won the IMSA GTO class in the 24-hour event in 1990. It should be fun around the game's longer road courses like Road Atlanta. This collection also has an eclectic mix of vehicles that aren't racecars. The controversial Aztek and the equally-controversial 1996 Subaru SVX take their places beside a lineup that offers drivers three eras of performance cars – a 1967 Sunbeam Tiger, 1974 Toyota Corolla SR5, and 1992 Alfa Romeo Milano Quadrifoglio Verde. The video below shows all of them in action. Race to the Finish Line with the Alpinestars Car Pack for Forza Motorsport 6 By Xbox Wire Staff posted on January 27, 2016 at 8:00 am With the racing season set to kick into full gear during this weekend's Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona race, Forza fans now have a chance to get their own taste of endurance racing glory with the Alpinestars Car Pack for Forza Motorsport 6, available on Thursday, Jan. 28. Leading off the pack of seven cars is last year's 24 Hours of Daytona winner, the 2015 Ford #02 Chip Ganassi Racing Riley Mk XXVI Daytona Prototype. The prototype will be fielded in this weekend's race, which begins at 2 p.m. EST on Saturday, Jan. 30 and can be viewed live on Fox Sports 1 in the U.S. The Alpinestars Car Pack features six additional cars, each with a unique pedigree all its own. From the 1990 Mercury #15 Whistler Radar Cougar XR-7 – also a competitor in Daytona 24 Hour events of years past – to the inimitable 2005 Pontiac Aztek (famous more for its fictional owner than its performance), this pack has something for every kind of car fan. Forza Motorsport 6 is the only game where players can drive last year's Rolex 24 Hours of Daytona winner on the recently remodeled Daytona International Speedway.

Tue, 04 Nov 2014

Ford has announced five separate recalls, affecting 202,000 vehicles built between 2005 and 2014.
It's not been a great couple of weeks for Ford. On October 30, the company announced a 205,000-unit recall, and yesterday, it was revealed that the Ford brand's year-over-year sales were down over 5,000 units while the company itself was down 3,000 units over through October. Now, the company has announced five separate recalls affecting 202,000 vehicles built between 2005 and 2014.

Junkyard Gem: 1977 Mercury Bobcat

Tue, Sep 4 2018

Cultural memory of the Ford Pinto, 38 years after the last new ones were sold, boils down to one thing today: the notorious "exploding Pinto" stories of the late 1970s. Yes, many Pinto jokes were told, the resale value of Pintos crashed, and few paid any attention to the fact that most of the cars sold with the fuel tank between the rear axle and the bumper — that is, just about every Detroit car made during the era — suffered from the same weakness. The Mercury version of the Pinto was badged as the Bobcat, but nobody told Bobcat jokes. Here's a '77 Mercury Bobcat 3-Door in vivid Medium Jade paint, spotted in a Denver self-service yard. The Pinto with glass rear hatch was known as the Pinto Runabout in 1977, while Mercury called this car the " Bobcat 3-door with Glass Third Door." When a car sits for years or decades in High Plains Colorado, rodents tend to nest in it. This Bobcat's air cleaner made a cozy home for our Hantavirus-carrying friends. The 1970s were the last gasp for eye-searingly green vinyl car interiors. Since the Bobcat was a luxed-up Pinto, the door panels have shinier trim than what you'd have had in a proletariat-grade Pinto. Pinto/Bobcat transmission choices boiled down to two: a four-speed manual or a three-speed automatic. Unusually for a Malaise Era Mercury, this one has the manual. Most Pintos and Bobcats came with four-cylinder engines, ranging from the 1.6-liter pushrod Kent to the 2.3-liter engine that lived on for many post-Pinto years in Ford Rangers. This car has the 2.3, rated at 89 horsepower, but the same 2.8-liter Cologne V6 that powered the Capri was available as an option in the Bobcat. That engine made a mighty 93 horsepower. These cars were not too miserable to drive by econobox standards of their time, at least when they had three pedals. You'd blow the doors off a '77 Corolla with a 4-speed Bobcat in a drag race, though the Corolla got better fuel economy. This content is hosted by a third party.
