1971 Mercury Capri Base 1.6l on 2040-cars
Galloway, Ohio, United States
1971 Mercury Capri with 30,000 miles, This car spent the last 40+ years in Pensacola , Fl, with its original owner prior to my
acquisition in March 2014. It is my
understanding that it was stored in a carport in partial sun and this caused
some interior damage although serviceable and not bad for 43 years, all of the
paint is original and shows no sign of ever having any bodywork. Destroyed carpet was removed to show the rust
free flooring. The rear D-windows have been upgraded to the drilled glass from
a newer model keeping the windows from leaving the vehicle at high speeds. This
is still the best Capri I have seen in the East in more than 20 years. The car
has several rust spots in very accessible areas including the trunk lid. It has
removable surface rust over many body panels but has virtually no rust in the
following hard to repair areas: A and B pillars, trunk, under hood, floor pan,
battery tray, hood, spring attachment areas and inner wheel wells. This is the most solid and complete car I have
found with all of its trim, great bumpers with near perfect bumper guards. The
car currently has a clear Ohio title. The car has not been registered since
2012 and I suspect it set many years before being bought out for one season
(grandson?). A tach and radio are installed in the passenger side under-dash
compartment. The car is complete and original
with nearly everything. Will provide
specific pictures of any desired body location. The condition of the engine
and std tranny are unknown although complete. Only serious bidders, must
provide $500 deposit within 48 hours of auction end and full balance due within
7 days. Winner is responsible for shipping and transportation. |

NHTSA investigating 725k Ford, Mercury vehicles for stalling issue
Mon, 25 Feb 2013Owners of Ford Escape, Mercury Mariner, Ford Fusion and Mercury Milan models, listen up. According to a report on Automotive News, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has opened an investigation into these four vehicles totaling an estimated 725,000 units. The investigation appears to center around a malfunctioning throttle body on non-hybrid models of the 2005-2012 Escape and 2011-2012 Fusion. With Mercury dying off after the 2011 model year, this probe will also apply to the 2005 through 2011 Mariner and the 2011 Milan. There has been some discussion around the Escape stalling issue for some time now, but this investigation appears to be larger in scope than before.
Though not a recall yet, NHTSA's Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received 123 complaints of stalling or surging vehicles, while Ford itself has logged 1,472 complaints. The investigation report, which is posted below, seems to indicate that a faulty circuit board for the throttle body could cause the vehicle to go into limp mode, which, according to NHTSA, could cause complaints of both stalling and surging.
Jill Wagner retired as Mercury spokeswoman
Wed, 17 Nov 2010Jill Wagner has officially given up her crown as the queen of Mercury. With the Ford middle child on its way to the scrap heap, Wagner no longer has any automotive hardware to promote. Given her varied talents, we wouldn't be surprised to see her pick up where she left off with another automaker.
And here you thought you'd never be upset about Mercury's passing.
Thanks for the tip, Gregg!
Fitting Retirement: Grand Marquis last Mercury off the line
Wed, 05 Jan 2011The signs have come down and retail production ended back in October of 2010. Now, the very last Mercury model has rolled off the assembly line. This last Mercury somewhat fittingly takes the form of a Grand Marquis reporting for fleet duty. It was built at the St. Thomas plant in Ontario, Canada, which is the same facility that continues to produce the Ford Crown Victoria and Lincoln Town Car for fleet and livery duty.
St. Thomas' days are numbered, however, as the factory is slated to close on August 31. When it goes, the Panther platform is likely to follow. So long, and thanks for all the fish memories.
