Mercedes spotted testing new GLC-Class

Mercedes is set to replace its GLK-Class compact crossover with the new GLC, and here's our best look at it yet. Previewed in concept form with a sloping coupe-like roofline in Shanghai and previously spotted wearing swirly camouflage (in AMG form, no less), we can easily see from these latest spy shots that the GLC will ditch its predecessor's straight edges for a far more rounded form. Sort of like a C-Class, but taller. That, we gather, is kind of the point, as Mercedes moves to realign its crossovers with its sedan, wagon, coupe and convertible counterparts: GLC with C-Class, GLE (nee M-Class) with E-Class and GLS (GL) with the S-Class. And of course the GLA with the CLA and A-Class. Look for the new GLC to debut in June, soon to be accompanied by a chopped-roof version and offering similar powertrain options as the latest C-Class sedan. Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 to debut in Monterey

Mercedes surprised the car world last week when it teased an enormous, Maybach-badged coupe concept. Now we have a name and a debut date. Mercedes released the info in a second teaser image posted to its Facebook page. Called the Vision Mercedes-Maybach 6 – "Vision" equals concept and "6" denotes the length in meters – the new two-door will debut at Pebble Beach on Thursday. So yeah, here's another reason to get excited about Monterey Car Week. As for the teaser image, it's a head-on shot as opposed to the profile view that Mercedes released last week. The new view supports our theory that the super-skinny mirrors are cameras, and the shot also reveals new styling touches. The most noticeable are the very thin, un-Mercedes-like headlights – they flank a prominent, heavily polished waterfall grille that marks a significant departure from recent Mercedes products. A traditional Mercedes hood ornament sits above the grille's small "Maybach" designation. Kicking up the exposure in Photoshop doesn't reveal too much more detail – unlike last week's profile image – aside from a set of chrome strips that run along the sides of the hood. Production Mercedes GLC Coupe coming in 2016

If the Mercedes-Benz GLC Coupe Concept from this year's Shanghai Motor Show caught your eye, we've got good news. The company confirmed that this model will enter production, and we should see the road-going model early next year, probably at the New York Auto Show. Dr. Gunnar Guthenke, Mercedes' G-Class boss, confirmed this during an event following this week's Frankfurt Motor Show. He's particularly proud of how Mercedes has expanded its crossover and SUV lines, and the addition of the BMW X4-fighting GLC Coupe only proves further commitment to this growth. The numbers don't lie – Mercedes' crossover and SUV sales are up 25 percent this year, compared to 2014 numbers. Even Mercedes' halo of SUVs, the G-Class, is experiencing increased sales. The company set a record for G-Class sales in 2014, and is on track to do it again this year; sales are up roughly 20 percent. For 2016, the G-Wagen gets a number of enhancements, including a 4.0-liter, twin-turbo V8 as the new base engine. Other markets get a new diesel engine for 2016, and more updates are on the way. "Our legend has a bright future," Guthenke said. We'll have a full review of the updated G550 next week, so stay tuned.
