2000 Mercedes SL500 Roadster

Only 23k miles, Beautiful condition

The Toy Barn is thrilled to offer this absolutely beautiful 2000 Mercedes SL500R, in stunning condition, and ready for it's new owner! This roadster is simply gorgeous, and was a recent trade-in here at our store from a previous client. This is a fantastic example indeed, and a great opportunity for someone looking for a meticulously kept, low-mileage Mercedes. You won't find another one like this in the Country!

Condition: This SL is absolutely beautiful. The Firemist Red finish is beautiful, with only light wear evident, no damage or major blemishes that take away from it's stunning appearance. The 17" Mercedes wheels are in excellent condition; no curb rash or damage, and overall the exterior of this Mercedes is fantastic. Inside, the Java nappa leather interior looks excellent, as pictured below. There are no major blemishes or signs of wear, and overall this is one of the finest interiors I've seen on a droptop Mercedes of this generation. The top is in excellent condition as well, and this Benz also comes with the painted and removable hardtop. Out on the road, the car runs, drives, and feels awesome. We just serviced it here at our Performance Center, and I'd be glad to provide any information to help answer questions for you. It will be sold with everything pictured below, plus two keys.

History: This SL started it's life as an Illinois car, but spent several of it's early years in Florida (very fitting). We purchased this car with 8k miles on it in early 2010 from Ooley & Blackburn, specifically for a long-time client of ours named Mike. Mike owned and enjoyed this SL, servicing it regularly at the local Mercedes store and driving it sparingly over 2+ years and about 9k miles. In 2012, his health faded somewhat and he decided to part with his Mercedes and offered it back to us, which we were excited to purchase it back off of him. Then in 2012, a couple purchased this car, again local, and did the same as Mike, driving it on nice days, in season, for about 2 years, servicing it at the local Mercedes store, and here at our facility. They opted to trade it back to us recently for something more "practical", so here it is! We went ahead and performed our multi-point inspection on the car as well as the full Mobil-1 synthetic oil service. We noticed the valve covers were starting to leak at the gaskets (typical for the year) and went ahead and replaced those here at our Performance Center. The car drives beautifully, and performs just as you'd expect. Serviced up and ready, this is a get-in-and-go Mercedes, ready for the shows, the street, or the collection.

Though in stunning condition, this is of course a 14+ year old car, as I'm sure you understand. There are a few various imperfections upon close scrutiny, but overall it is absolutely gorgeous. It is being sold as-is. CALL ME FOR MORE DETAILS!!!

Check out the pictures below, be sure and allow time for them to load!

If you have any questions about the condition of this car, and would like for me to go over it panel by panel with you, please give me a ring. I'd be glad to do an "over the phone" walkaround for you.

2015 Japanese Grand Prix is a little Mercedes, a lot of zen

Mon, Sep 28 2015

Just one week on from the issues in Singapore Mercedes-AMG Petronas appeared to have solved its clamp problems and everything else. Daniil Kvyat at Infiniti Red Bull Racing took the two Free Practice scalps on Friday, but when it came time for qualifying the front of the grid looked really familiar: Mercedes' Nico Rosberg took his second pole position of the season, Lewis Hamilton next to him in second. Kvyat had a hand in that, too, the Russian getting into a big accident in Q3 when he put two wheels on the grass heading into the hairpin and veered into the tire wall so hard that he flipped. That ended qualifying before a number of drivers had a chance to improve their times, Hamilton among them. That's how Valtteri Bottas got in third for Willliams ahead of Sebastian Vettel fourth for Ferrari. Felipe Massa had the second Williams in fifth, ahead of Kimi Raikkonen in the second Ferrari. Daniel Ricciardo lined up sixth for Infiniti Red Bull Racing, a team we're going to have to enjoy watching for the rest of the season since it might not exist come 2016. Romain Grosjean gave Lotus some good news by getting into eighth, the team so strapped for cash that it couldn't get into its hospitality area, so it held press conferences outside and ate at Bernie Ecclestone's Paddock Club. Sergio Perez took ninth for Sahara Force India, and Kvyat slotted into tenth after not setting a time. The Russsian's race would begin from the pit lane once his mechanics rebuilt his car. It wouldn't be a Formula One start lately without someone at the front having clutch problems. This time it was pole man Rosberg, whose power unit got too hot and put him a few horsepower down on Hamilton through Turns 1 and 2. That's half of how Hamilton took the lead from the lights going out, and the Brit kept it throughout the race. Rosberg, however, said his race was lost when Hamilton pushed him wide through Turn 2, a move Hamilton defended. Rosberg finished almost 19 seconds behind his teammate, a gap that probably isn't fully explained by that opening incident. Hamilton's race was so uneventful that we almost never saw him on camera – that is, we saw him so much less than we usually see him when he's out in front and unpressured that Nikki Lauda said he'd ask Ecclestone why the cameras avoided him. The conspiracy theory holds that FOM was punishing Mercedes for not supplying Red Bull with engines next year.

Aston Martin tipped for F1 return with Red Bull, Mercedes

Mon, Jul 6 2015

Aston Martin could be plotting a return to Formula One for the first time in over half a century. And not as a backmarker, either. That is, at least, if the latest rumors materialize. While most automakers that participate in F1 do so as either a team owner (like Ferrari and Mercedes) or as an engine supplier (think Renault or Honda), the rumored Aston Martin deal would take a different approach. According to Autosport, the proposal would have the Red Bull Racing team run Aston Martin branding – but not its engines. Those would be provided by Mercedes, just like the engines in the British marque's upcoming slate of road cars. In that regard, the deal would not be unlike the one which Red Bull currently has with the Renault-Nissan Alliance, which sees the team running Renault engines and Infiniti branding. Andy Palmer was a pivotal figure in brokering that unusual arrangement when he was working for Carlos Ghosn, and is now tipped to be brokering a similar deal in his new capacity as Aston Martin's CEO. Though Aston has found glory in sports car racing (including Le Mans and its various associated series), it was never much of a contender in grand prix racing. It competed in a handful of races in 1959 and 1960, but never achieved results worth bragging about. Aston was rumored to be plotting a return when David Richards sat as chairman of the company, having run Aston's racing program as well as Honda's F1 team previously. Those rumors, however, never materialized. Whether this time 'round gains any traction remains to be seen - Aston Martin declined to either confirm or deny the reports when reached for comment by Autoblog. Red Bull has been growing increasingly dissatisfied (and increasingly vocal about its dissatisfaction) with Renault engines over the past couple of seasons. Though the two parties won four back-to-back world titles together, things took a noticeable step backward after the new turbo engine regulations took hold for the 2014 season. Nissan/Infiniti and Red Bull are contracted to continue collaborating until the end of next season. After that is when the new Aston deal could take hold, and Mercedes is reportedly keen on the idea so that it could add another customer to its F1 engine supply business and offset the costs of development. That could effectively prove the end of Renault in F1 (at least for the time being). Aside from Red Bull, the French automaker currently supplies only that outfit's sister team Toro Rosso.

Blackwings, a G 63 gets dirty and a wave of rad-era nostalgia | Autoblog Podcast #693

Fri, Aug 27 2021

In this episode of the Autoblog Podcast, Editor-in-Chief Greg Migliore is joined by Associate Editor Byron Hurd, who has spent the past few weeks sampling a near-endless string of enthusiast vehicles. They start off discussing Cadillac's 2022 CT4-V and CT5-V Blackwing models, which Byron had the opportunity to drive at Virginia International Raceway. They follow that up with a discussion of the Mercedes-Benz AMG G 63, which Byron also drove on a track, albeit one of a very different sort. After that, some news. Greg and Byron run down the list of returning enthusiasts nameplates, including Integra, Z and Countach, and cap off by talking about what a third-generation Acura NSX might look like.  Send us your questions for the Mailbag and Spend My Money at: Podcast@Autoblog.com.
