Mercedes spotted testing hardcore AMG GT at the 'Ring
Thu, Mar 26 2015Mercedes has showcased its new AMG GT in both base and S trims, it's rolled out the GT3 racing version and the Formula One safety car. But we're only beginning to see the extent of the variants that the German automaker is expected to spin off of its new sportscar. And here is the latest. Spied undergoing testing at the Nurburgring is what appears to be an even more performance-focused version of the Mercedes-AMG GT. It seems to be packing an upgraded aero kit – complete with front splitter and rear wing – as well as larger rolling stock. You can bet there's an even more potent version underhood of the 4.0-liter twin-turbo V8 that's already producing over 500 hp in the existing model. Whether Affalterbach deems it worthy of the Black Series label or not is another question, but what's clear is that AMG is gunning for the Porsche 911 GT3 with the performance model you see here – however disguised it may be from our prying eyes. World Car Of The Year down to its final four
Wed, 13 Mar 2013
Judges for the World Car of the Year Award have narrowed down the finalists to just four vehicles. Out of a total of 42 entries, only the Mercedes-Benz A-Class, Porsche Boxster/Cayman, Scion FR-S/Subaru BRZ/Toyota GT-86 and Volkswagen Golf remain standing. For Volkswagen, this marks the second consecutive year the company has had an entry among the finalists, and the fourth time since 2009. In order to qualify, a vehicle must be on sale on two continents during the span of time between January 1, 2013 and May 30, 2013. A panel of 66 journalists from 23 countries then vote on the finalists.
Three vehicles have made the cut for the last round of voting on the 2013 World Performance Car as well, with the Cayman/Boxster and FR-S/BRZ/GT-86 running against the Ferrari F12 Berlinetta. Meanwhile, the Renault Zoe, Tesla Model S and Volvo V60 Plug-In Hybrid are duking it out for the World Green Car Award. Finally, the World Car Design of the Year Award is up for grabs between the Aston Martin Vanquish, Jaguar F-Type, and the Mazda6. Check out the full press release below. Overall winners will be presented at the 2013 New York Auto Show.
Xcar drives the Mercedes-AMG C63 S
Wed, Mar 11 2015The transition among Europe's high performance vehicles from naturally aspirated power towards turbocharging has taken time but has shown constant progress. The march seemingly started with hot hatches when models like the Volkswagen GTI quit adding displacement and finally succumbed to forced induction. Now, the change has affected the higher rungs with the latest BMW M3 and possibly even all future Porsche 911s. Of course, the question arises does this shift really matter to the driving experience? Xcar Films aims to find while taking a spirited ride in the new Mercedes-AMG C63 S. One thing is for sure; the switch from the 6.2-liter V8 in favor of the new 4.0-liter twin-turbo doesn't seem to be hurting the Merc's sound. Even with forced induction, the exhaust still emits a very angry grumble. Find out from Xcar if the rest of the new engine's attributes stack up quite so well, though.
