1999 Mercedes S320, Automatic, Power windows, Power mirrors, Power door locks, Power seats, Cruise control, Dual climate control, AM/FM/Cassette, CD changer, Bose radio, Power sun roof, Leather seats and carpet original, Floor mats, Heated seats, (I'm sure I've missed plenty here)

Was painted a few months back so no dents dings or scratches. Rust free southern car runs out very nice.

The good: I've owned this car for about 10 years and its been really trouble free.  When I got it, it had about 85,000 Miles on it.  All the miles since then are highway miles (My commute to and from work).  The only oil its ever had is Fully Synthetic Mobile 1 0w-40 which is what Mercedes calls for in the M104 Engine.  The transmission was rebuilt about two years ago.  The Engine runs strong, smooth, and uses practically no oil between changes (I don't have to add any). Transmission shifts smoothly. The Yokohama Avid Tires are about 50% I'd guess just by looking. All of the bells and whistles work on the car with a couple of exceptions I'll list.

The bad: The two front leather seats are in nice condition with the exception of a couple of minor things in the passenger seat that I took a closeup of.  There is a small vibration at about 60mph that could be tire balance but I suspect its a flex disk (Mercedes version of a U-joint).  I've simply not had time to look into it. There is a small exhaust leak that is only noticeable when starting cold.  I don't think this is too serious because the entire exhaust is stainless steel.   The button for the rear sun shade has snapped out of place and needs to be put back.

Why am I selling it?  Wife says I have too many and some have to go..  I have to write up the ad for my goldwing next..  ;(

New Die Hard movie wrecked 132 cars in $11 million chase scene [w/video]

Sat, 16 Feb 2013

It would seem the act of dying hard brings with it lots of wanton destruction of the four-wheeled kind. According to John Moore, director of A Good Day To Die Hard, starring Bruce Willis, There were 132 (cars) that could never be used again. Another 518 required a lot of work. And damn right there were some good cars there... That's the fun of it."
Please join us in one great big collective sigh. Done? Okay, let's continue.
"With Die Hard it's about how audacious the action is," says Moore. "So you have to drive over a Lamborghini. An actual one. And yes it hurts me. I'm a car fanatic." Yeah. Sounds like it hurt really bad... though not as bad as the final tally after all the carnage had been counted: "Someone showed me the numbers on the car chase and soup to nuts, you put it all together it was like an $11 million sequence."

Daimler names Bernd Pischetsrieder to supervisory board

Mon, 14 Apr 2014

Some executives in the automotive industry stay with one company for their entire careers, while others bounce from one to the other, often leaving their indelible mark on each automaker at which they serve. Bob Lutz is certainly an example of the latter. So is Lee Iacocca, having presided over Ford and later charing the Chrysler board. Carlos Tavares was chief operating officer of Renault before being nominated as chief executive at PSA Peugeot Citroën. But as far as the Germans go, nobody's jumped from the leadership of one automaker to the next quite like Bernd Pischetsrieder - especially now that he's been named to the supervisory board of Mercedes-Benz parent company Daimler.
An engineer by training, Pischetsrieder started his career at BMW in 1973, eventually rising to the office of CEO after twenty years. There he remained until 1999, only to be dismissed after orchestrating BMW's takeover of the Rover Group (of which only the Mini brand remains in the company's portfolio, the other brands having been sold off after his dismissal).
The next year he was named chairman of Volkswagen's Seat brand, and rose to the chairmanship of the entire Volkswagen Group two years later. Despite a largely successful four-year tenure (that gave birth, incidentally, to the Bugatti Veyron), disagreements with supervisory board chairman Ferdinand Piëch saw him leave the helm at VW AG, focusing his attention on the Scania truck division. He's since been touted as a potential chief executive for Opel and for Continental, but neither potential was apparently realized.

Does Alex Rodriguez' Mercedes dealership have a PR problem?

Thu, 08 Aug 2013

Alex Rodriguez, in case you haven't heard, is seemingly the new Most Hated Man In Baseball, ostensibly replacing commissioner Bud Selig (for now). Rodriguez was slammed with a 211-game suspension due to his role in the MLB's latest steroid scandal in which "A-Roid," as fans have taken to calling the former superstar, was cited with steroid use and attempts to hide his involvement by "engaging in a course of conduct intended to obstruct and frustrate" the investigation, according to the MLB's official report.
Why is this on a car site, then? Because Rodriguez' name is attached Alex Rodriguez Mercedes-Benz in League City, TX. An Ad Age report cites Mercedes-Benz USA in saying that A-Rod owns "about half'" of the dealership. Mercedes, for what it's worth, isn't going to any to any lengths to distance itself from its dealership or its controversial namesake, saying, "We never promoted the fact that A-Rod owned a dealership, so there's really nothing to 'distance' ourselves from. And since his activity is not illegal but rather prohibited by MLB, there's nothing actionable here."
With the scandal still a fresh piece of news and A-Rod's pending appeal, it's difficult to tell what sort of effect, if any, his name will have on the dealership's sales. Ad Age contacted the GM of Alex Rodriguez Mercedes-Benz to get the dealership's view, but no calls were returned. According to Mercedes, any name change is up to Rodriguez and his partner(s) at the dealership. Somehow, though, we think A-Rod has other things to worry about beyond his dealership's name.
