Always wanted a V12 and so got this S600 last August. Flew to Seattle and drove it home to California.  It ran all the way without fail, but a pain without functioning cruise control.  Lots the previous owner did not divulge.

Have fixed a number of problems associated with "romantic garage art" collectible cars.  Repaired or replaced with MB parts: Engine Oil and Filter; Catalysts (not MB cats, but easily passed CA smog check); Thermostat and coolant; Intake manifold gaskets, plugs and wires; Rear suspension accumulators; AC Compressor, refrigerant and condenser; Four-element pneumatic seat bladders, for both front seats; Tires and Wheels (cruise control now works); Drivers side door handle/remote sensor plus new Remote Keyless Entry fob and key; Various lamps; Inside photochromic memory mirror; Dent in diver's side front fender; Wood and leather wheel; Removed unsafe window tinting and unusable cell phone to reclaim some storage space; No warning lights or leaks now.  It all works.  The engine starts quickly, is electric motor smooth and pulls like a freight train.  Trans rebuilt by previous owner.  2-yr old battery.

Used for both work-commute and to drive on regular 5 hour trips.  Handles all trips with ease, grace and comfort; and, no problems.  Amazingly silent, even at over 100 MPH.  When the road gets twisty engaging the shock "performance" setting tightens the handling enough to make the corners easier without unsettling the wonderful ride.

Time to let it go to a good home.  Purchase also includes old wheels (they function very well but need cosmetic help), the old parts removed from the unit, rebuilt power steering pump that seemed to need replacing but didn't (next to failing AC compressor), service/troubleshooting software, owners manual, emergency tool kit in unused condition, first aid kit.  Don't have the Valet key.  Had MB tech check engine bay wiring and it does not appear to suffer from the infamous insulation failure problem - no weird electrical behaviors.

This is a very rare car comparable to Rolls, Bentley, or big Masers.  Check out the history on line.  Amazing value when compared to 20 year old MSRP of $140k.

Mercedes has already booked 30k orders for new S-Class

Mon, 21 Oct 2013

When Toyota snags 30,000 Corolla orders over a three-month span, it's entirely possible we're in the midst of a global economic collapse and that the end is nigh. That's because the scale for Toyota is so very large. Mercedes-Benz, on the other hand, operates on a much smaller scale, particularly when we talk about its higher-end models, like the S-Class.
In 2012, Mercedes sold 65,000 of its flagship sedans in Germany and the EU. That's 178 units per day, for 365 days. Based on that, you can imagine the excitement at Stuttgart when it accepted 30,000 orders for the new S-Class in just three months. That's an average of 333 per day on a continent with a notoriously shaky economy. Now, admittedly, this enthusiasm could wane as the refitted S-Class becomes more common and Mercedes achieves market saturation in Europe's many chauffeur and livery services, but Mercedes isn't choosing to look at it that way.
"The new S-Class has already jumped back into the lead in terms of new vehicle registrations in Germany and its neighboring European countries," Mercedes-Benz head of sales and marketing, Ola Kaellenius, said in a statement last week.

2015 Mercedes C-Class order guide leaked

Wed, 23 Apr 2014

We may not have an official starting price for the 2015 Mercedes-Benz C-Class, but as of right now, we can tell you about all the options for the eagerly anticipated new luxury sedan.
Benz Report has the entire order guide for the C-Class, with breakdowns from package pricing to how many different colors, wheel designs and lighting configurations will be available when the new model hits dealers later this year. As we mentioned in our initial review of the C-Class, there will be a pair of engine options, with the now familiar 2.0-liter, turbocharged four-cylinder available in both rear- and all-wheel-drive configurations and a 3.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V6, which can be had in all-wheel drive, only.
From there, though, the available options are impressive. Much like it does on the current car, Mercedes is offering a pair of packages that sort of define the entire car. With the C300, buyers will have the choice of either a Sport or Luxury package in addition to the base trim, while C400 buyers are limited to the Sport model.

Why all of this year's F1 noses are so ugly [w/video]

Fri, 31 Jan 2014

If you're a serious fan of Formula One, you already know all about The Great Nosecone Conundrum of 2014. Those given to parsing each year's F1 regulations predicted the strong possibility of the so-called "anteater" noses as far back as early December 2013. Highly suggestive visual evidence first came after Caterham's crash test in early January, with further proof coming as soon as Williams showed a rendering of the FW36 challenger for this year's championship. That car earned a name that wasn't nearly so kind as "anteater."
Casual followers of the sport - or anyone who gets the feed from this site - probably don't know what's happening, except to wonder why the current year's F1 cars are led by appendages that would make Cyrano de Bergerac feel a whole lot better about himself.
The short answer to the question of ugsome F1 noses is "FIA regulations and safety." The reason there are various kinds of ugsome noses is simpler: engineers. The same boffins who have given us advances including carbon fiber monocoques, six-wheeled cars, double diffusers and Drag Reduction Systems are bred to do everything in their power to exploit every possible freedom in the regulations to make the cars they're building go faster - the caveat being that those advances have to work within the overall philosophy of the whole car.
