1986 Mercedes 300 SDL was the top of the line Mercedes in 1986. This car had been totally restored and updated with numerous retrofits To make it a new car. For example: Brand NEW Engine 3 liter Turbo Charged, replaced in 2006 New Transmission in 2012 New paint, interior, etc. New AMD Mercedes 5 spoke wheels and high performance Michelin tires New HID XENON high intensity head light assemblies, put in last week, blue white lights. Many more new items, too many to list………… All work has been done by the local Mercedes Dealer……… Some of the retrofits include: Built in GPS Built in Rear view backup camera Sirius/XM satellite radio DVD player, you can watch movies I have about $60,000.00 in this car and am not expecting to get all of my money out of it, because I have had fun working on this classic car, OH, I did not mention that this car runs on either DIESEL fuel OR Waste Vegetable oil, that you can get free from restaurants……….even if you don’t know a restaurant, I have a source for refined vegetable oil in Beavercreek for $2.50 per gallon. Gullwing America turns SLS AMG Roadster into stunning 1955 300 SC redux
Thu, 14 Feb 2013Gullwing America specializes in what it calls "retro styling meets modern technology." It's next demonstration of that is the convertible above, a stylized recreation of the 1955 Mercedes-Benz 300 SC (inset) supported by the structure of a 2012 SLS AMG Roadster. Commissioned by a client in Eastern Europe, the resulting car is called the 300 SLC.
The hand-formed aluminum bodywork required just a few changes to the SLS AMG Roadster, namely reworking the headlights into a stacked arrangement of LEDs and relocating the pop-up spoiler behind the cabin. The retro grille and long, straight hood evoke the past, the custom exhaust, height-adjustable suspension, 21-inch wheels up front and 22-inch wheels in back, however, stray a little further from history. The 300 SLC will come with a hardtop and be one-of-a-kind, making it even rarer than its inspiration, of which 92 were made.

Piloting an 8,500-pound motorized house down the highway is far from my idea of fun, yet inexplicably, I'm enjoying myself. My grin has nothing to do with my camper's handling, as this heavily accoutered Mercedes-Benz Sprinter drives like a 25-foot long breadbox. My smile has nothing to do with on-road stability, as the ten-foot-tall, slab-sided vehicle reacts to wind gusts like the vertical stabilizer on a Boeing jet. My delight has nothing to do with its throttle or braking response, either, as both are as numb as your forehead after the eighth beer.
This monstrosity makes me happy for one reason - my passengers are undeniably having a good time.
